Work Text:
"Where is Madame Bustier?"
It had been the third Monday in a row their class started with that question to whoever was taking over.
That day, it was Ms. Mendeleiev.
Again.
A collective grunt echoed throughout the classroom; the last thing anyone needed was to see the infamous woman on a rainy, cold Monday morning, when it was more than evident every single one of the students would have rather stayed in bed than attend an early morning class.
Marinette took her usual seat among her friends, grateful for Adrien's recent growth spurt as his head would hide hers if she happened to doze off during the lesson.
A few minutes later and multiple droopy eyelids out of boredom and tiredness later, Mendeleiev decided it was time to start her lesson.
"As you all might know, Madame Bustier is pregnant, and will be giving birth soon. I have heard many of you being excited about it, even mentioning how much you would enjoy having a baby of your own. Therefore, I consider important for you to know more about this process."
She turned to the space next to her, catching everyone's attention.
"We will be doing an interactive lesson."
The students began muttering, the words eager to come out. First, there was the half-hearted hope of the class being interesting for once, and second, the question. Why would she speak to thin air?
A bright flash of light sparked in the very space she had been speaking to, gaining a circular shape in matter of milliseconds.
When the circle was already a good size, a had popped out of it.
"I took the liberty to ask your friend Alix to help us with this activity. That way, they will be able to participate too."
Everyone was intrigued by that point, some more excited than others.
Nathaniel shot out of his seat for the first time anyone could remember, eager to greet Alix. "HEY! Long time no see!"
Ms. Mendeleiev looked at the two for a few seconds before remembering she was supposed to be teaching. "Nathaniel, go back to your seat please." The boy raced to his place at the teacher's stern tone.
"Now, Alix-"
"Bunnixx," they interrupted.
"-Bunnix, will hand you a very special material. Keep in mind you have to take care of it, and if anything, anything were to happen to it, keep in mind potentially disastrous consequences could ensue. If you do not feel capable of taking the risk, please state it before we start. This activity is not mandatory, just heavily recommended."
Everyone looked around at the ominous warning, but no one backed down.
"Please, make a circle around your friend. They will hand out the materials."
The entire class obeyed instantly, eager to see what they were going to be handed.
Marinette was first in line, and Alix winked at her. "Whoever I call with you, they will be your partner for this project."
Marinette prayed internally it wouldn't be what she though it would.
To her utter disgrace, or luck some would say, the name called along with her was exactly who she thought it was.
"Adrien, come here! You're gonna be working with Marinette."
As soon as the blonde stepped to the front, Bunnix dived inside their Burrow and stepped out cradling something in their arms.
"Now, everyone, please don't yell or this little fella will wake up and I'm guessing none of you are in the mood for baby crying."
"YOU SAID BABY?" Marinette yelled. "That is exactly what I was referring to."
Alix placed the bundle in their arms on Adrien's softly while Marinette recovered.
"Her name is Emma."
Emma looked surprisingly a lot like Marinette, but with... green eyes? instead of blue.
Green.
Marinette felt herself about to faint.
Alya, who was behind Marinette in the line, was the next one. She was handed along with Nino a little baby boy, with skin just like hers but darker, jet black hair.
"His name is Ismäel," Bunnixx had said.
Nathaniel was next in line, and Marc was called along him, both being handed a little blonde girl, as quiet as both were. "Lya," both said almost in unison with Bunnixx.
Then, Rose and Juleka were handed a dark haired tiny bundle by the name of Ocèane, and Ivan and Mylene one named Léo, and so until the entire class was done. Only Lila was called alone, to her surprise, but still was given a little girl named Aude, with hair as thin and brunette as hers.
Except for Kim, who was handed an egg.
"Trust me, you want me to give you an egg."
He took it, and drew a smiley face on the egg.
Ms. Mendeleiev finally resumed her instructions.
"You will have to take care of these babies until the day ends. Should you feel overwhelmed by the task, the portal will open up besides you if it is the adequate time for you to give up. Timer starts now."
Bunnixx continued. "if you feel like you can't do it, unless I appear, you can. You have done it before in the future, and before I forget to mention it, every single one of you has their own kid, approved by yourselves in the future
The class made their way up to their seats while Alix closed their Burrow with a whispered "Good luck!" to everyone.
"Does anyone know anything about baby care?"
Alya and Nino responded.
"Not a lot, but if yours starts crying I can help you a bit," she said.
Adrien loosened his grip on Emma, feeling more confident now he had something solid to lean on like his chair was.
"Careful dude! Take care of the head, always the head. Don't let the neck do any weird things."
The class was having fun, maimed by the occasional diaper change, much to everyone's displeasure every time it happened.
A few hours later, the class had decided to allow their kids to interact, and apart from the babies' occasional cries, Lila wouldn't stop complaining.
"I guess the reason I was called alone was because I married someone way out of this league, I mean, Iwouldn't be surprised if my baby had gotten her hair from Prince Ali! I'm so happy to see our love is still strong after all those years!"
The kids started surrounding her at those words, calmly but menacing in a way.
"Oh look, they like me!" she praised herself.
Until Emma bited her. And Lya. And Ismäel.
In a matter of seconds, Lila was surrounded by a dozen angry toddlers, who seemed extremely unhappy with the idea of letting go.
A sharp yell could be heard thought out the entirety of Francois Dupont.
Suddenly, Alix popped up from her Burrow.
"Wait! Just in case, I forgot to mention that in the future we noticed kids whose parents were exposed to dark Miraculous magic, which is about the entire city if I remember well, tend to attack those related to it. Don't ask me how they know, but they do."
Lila looked at them pitifully, Emma still hanging from her arm.
