Work Text:

On January 15th of 2075, hospitals across the United States encountered terror attacks that would take thousands of lives. Women who believed that they were pregnant and had gone into labor entered the hospital in hopes of bringing new life to the world. Unbeknownst to them, these women were not pregnant with warm-blooded babies but cold steel bombs.

All across the states, an unknown organization was drugging women and implanting them with bombs for the past year. These bombs would grow similarly to babies while incubating themselves in the unsuspecting woman’s body. On that fateful day like clockwork, as each “baby” was born, the bombs went off. All the major hospitals across the U.S were destroyed halting medical care for the entire nation. In one day, the country fell into chaos. This incident would be known as “The Bomb Babies.”

Clarence Protag was just 11-year-old when the incident occurred. He watched his mother be driven away with his father as they headed to the hospital. He expected to see his new baby brother enter through the doors of his home that evening, but the day would never come. His mother and father never returned as they were pronounced dead the following week. His mother was one of the carriers for the bomb babies. In a single day, Clarence Protag became an orphan.

For the first time in his 11-year-old life, Clarence experience deep sorrow, grief, and intense burning rage.

“Those bastards took everything from me! I will find them, and I will kill them all!” On the day of his parent’s funeral, Clarence swore an oath of vengeance.

Living with his aunt, Clarence pretended to live a normal high school life, but he would start his research every night when no one was awake. With only the streetlights on, he would hunt down any clues he could find. He revisited the bombing sites that held his trauma and scoured the internet for clues.

After years of searching, Clarence finally found a website filled with people just like him, dedicated to finding out who caused the Bomb Baby Tragedy of 2075. There he discovered the name of the organization responsible, Super Evil Corporation. Their core message was: Do evil, Be Evil, Spread Evil. They truly lived up to their message.

Knowing that this organization was extremely powerful and evil, Clarence bid his aunt goodbye.

“Goodbye auntie, I’m off to avenge mother and father!”

He set off on a journey to train himself and become strong enough to take them down. Along the way, he encountered grunts that worked under the Super Evil Corporation. Every time he faced them; Clarence would challenge them to a duel. A moral duel where they fought on the grounds of good and evil. Most would be moved by Clarence’s message and change sides, but others resisted. He would test out his super special moves and kill those who resisted.

As more people converted over from the Super Evil Corporation to Clarence’s side of good, they decided to form a company to house all the people. This company would be titled Clarence’s Good People Company. Having established this company, the Super Evil Corporation began to take notice of Clarence. This company directly went against their beliefs and challenged their power. The Super Evil Corporation would not stand for this.

“This is bad. Clarence’s Good People Company is taking away all our evil henchmen. We must put an end to this,” said the mysterious boss man of Super Evil Corporation.
Having gained power through his travels and followers, Clarence gained the confidence to confront the evil organization’s boss. He phoned up his arch-nemesis and called for a conference meeting.

“I am Clarence from Clarence’s Good People Company, and I challenge you, the mysterious boss man of the Super Evil Corporation to come over and duel me in a battle of morals!”
“It seems you are a fool, Clarence, for good shall never win over evil. Just look at all the evil I have spread with one terror attack!”

After the very intense phone call, they set a date for their duel of morals. On the fated day, people gathered around the company building of Clarence’s Good People Company. It was split between people cheering for justice and good and those who spit evil and hatred back. Clarence sat in his premium leather suede chair, his leg shaking as he twirled a pen around his fingers.

Ding!

The elevator door opened, and out walked the mysterious boss man. Clarence turned around, and his jaw dropped along with his pen. Standing in front of him was his deceased father, now alive and healthy. His father, no, the evil boss of Super Evil Corporation, walked towards him with a smile.

“Son, I bet you didn’t think I was the one responsible for all the evil in the world. I missed you a lot you know.”

Clarence’s eyes went red, and he grabbed his father’s collar.

“You killed them. You killed so many people! You killed…you killed mother.” Clarence’s voice dropped as tears welled up in his eyes.

His father, E. Vil Protag, stepped closer to his son and placed a hand on his shoulder. Clarence slapped the hand away and took a step back.

“Tell me, father, did you kill all these people just for the sake of evil? How could you? I thought you loved us. I thought you loved me!”

E. gave a wry smile at his son’s words.

“In fact, it’s the exact opposite, Clarence. Over the years, I realized true good could never happen unless there was true evil, so I decided to become the evil that would bring out the good of humanity.” E. Vil walked towards the large windows behind Clarence’s desk and stared down below.

“I loved your mother, I truly did, but some sacrifices had to be made for the sake of humanity. I mean, look, we have successfully sorted the people between good and evil. With this you can hunt down all the evildoers here and make it so good lasts forever!”

Clarence walked to stand next to his father. He looked down at the people who were now divided between good and evil, and he looked back at his father. He understood his father’s ideology, but he could not stand along side it. Staring closer at E. Vil’s face he noticed how old and tired his father looked. Though he knew the ideology was wrong, he admired his father for how steadfast he was to his beliefs.

“I cannot agree to this, father! I will defeat you and undo all the evil acts that you have done. Things will not go how you want them to.” Clarence resolved himself for a battle and readied his sword.

E. Vil pulled out Clarence’s chair and sat on it, facing his son and the city below.

“Even if you try to fight it, the world will never be the same as it was ever again. My ideology has already been in place, and you have helped to set about these new standards of good and evil. My son, you are the figurehead of good, and I the figurehead of evil. My defeat is inevitable, and with it comes a new era of change, where evil is eradicated for the sake of good.”
E. Vil closed his eyes with his hands clasped together. Clarence stared at the sword in his hand, unsure of what to do. He realized that his father had won in the end, even if that would not be what was recorded into the history books to come. Resolving his eyes again, Clarence thrust his sword through his father’s chest and chopped off his head. With his father’s head in one hand and his bloodied sword in another, Clarence took the elevator down to meet the masses.

Upon coming out from his company doors, he held his father’s head up high in the sky.

“Attention everyone, I Clarence Protag have defeated the evil of our world. This is the head of the boss man of the Super Evil Corporation. I have defeated him and with it I declare war on all evil! We will hunt down all the evil of this world in the name of good!”

The crowd cheered and with it screams rang out from those among the evil group. Those who were “good” grabbed the closest weapons they could find and began their hunt to eradicate evil from the world.
