Chapter Text
Only his close friend group knows he’s an omega. He presented at 13, miserable and in pain. His doctor recommended him to use suppressants until he mates.
Emma confessed to him when she was 13 and he was 14, and they started a relationship. Now, they were 18 and 19 and were thinking of mating.
Anyone who sees them thinks that he’s the alpha and she’s the omega. It happens quite often, and unless it’s important, neither of them correct the person.
When Draken started to work with Shinichiro, he met Inupi, a pretty alpha with a low voice tone, and a dark and sarcastic sense of humor. They became friends right away.
It wasn’t until a couple weeks later that Inupi met Emma. She came to give him and Shin their lunch.
When she went on her way, Inupi spoke to Draken with a smile.
“You got yourself a pretty omega.”
Shin heard it and laughed from behind the engine he started working right after lunch. Inupi glared at their boss with a frown.
“What’s so funny?”
“Inupi, did you forget? All of the Sano siblings are alphas.”
A silence went between them and Draken wouldn’t be the one to break it. Inupi’s head was working out what Shinichiro said.
“Are you gay?”
Thins time, Draken laughed with Shinichiro.
“Try again,” Draken said when he was able to control his laugh.
Inupi frowned with his whole face. “What else could it—? Oh.”
Draken, who was sitting on the couch of the small waiting area they had in the garage, rested his head on the palm of his hand.
“You… are an omega.” It came out sounding more like a question, Inupi still doubting his conclusion.
“Correct.”
Inupi nodded slowly. Draken watched him come to terms with the new information. Draken always find fun to see people realize he’s an omega, he’s so far from the stereotype in body, hobbies and personality, people usually have a hard time seeing him as anything other than an alpha. But it was never a problem for him, none of the omegas in their group friends was close to the stereotype; after all, different doesn’t mean abnormal.
“You’re on suppressants, right? That’s why I can’t smell you properly.”
Draken hummed and nodded.
“Even without suppressants, is hard to know he’s an omega,” Shin said. He was around during the time Draken had to switch his suppressants and he had to go a few weeks without them. He smelled like pine, a scent more commonly associated with alphas, so unless he’s in heat, it’s still difficult to say he’s an omega.
Inupi sniffed him a little and Draken almost jumped from his seat out of reflex. Purposefully sniffing someone else is usually considered bad manners unless said person is a family member, your mate or a close friend, neither of which Inupi was to him; granted, they are good friends, but not close enough.
“Sorry, I was just curious about your scent under the suppressants.”
“You could’ve just asked! It’s rude to do that, you know?!”
“Sorry, force of habit, my mate has a hormonal imbalance, so I have to keep tabs on his scent at all times, I forget I can’t do that to others.”
“Just make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
The rest of the day went by uneventful. Inupi told Draken they could have a double date sometime. It sounded like something Emma would probably like, so he accepted.
He got to his and Emma’s apartment. It was something small, enough for the two of them, they started renting it the previous month after Emma got her part-time job, but they were proud of it, since it served as proof of their independence.
He kissed Emma on the forehead when he walked up to the couch, where she was doing her homework. She was studying nursing with a half scholarship, and Draken couldn’t be prouder of her.
“How was work today?” she asked, looking up from her notebook.
“It was fun, actually.”
“Yeah? What happened?”
“Just Inupi trying to figure out my designation.”
Emma chuckled. Draken wanted to sit next to her but he was still covered in motor oil and sweat, he needed a shower first.
“Inupi said we could have a double date with him and his mate, if you’re up to, that’s it.”
“I have finals in two weeks, but after that, I’m free, we can schedule something then… I heard there’s a new ice cream parlor in town, maybe we can go there.”
“I like that, I’ll tell Inupi tomorrow. I’m going to take a shower.”
Emma hummed and returned to her notebook.
