Who's Idea Was It Anyway?

Summary:

So we know how they got married... but how about how they got engaged?

Sorry it's so short, it's really just fan service for my #1 fan

Work Text:

About a week after their unofficial wedding, the couple was lying in their bed watching TV. Luke was absent-mindedly spinning his ring around her finger, a habit he had taken to recently. He loved playing with his ring, he loved his ring in general, because it meant he was tied to the woman he loved more than anything.

“I wonder whose idea it was for us to get married in the first place,” he said.

“Probably yours,” Penelope told him. “You were the instigator for pretty much all of our relationship milestones, so it makes sense that it would be you.”

“Yeah. But now that we have a wedding we can remember…”

“You want to remember how we got engaged?”

“Exactly.”

“Well I can find out, if you want.”

Luke turned to face his wife. “You can?"

“Yeah. There are security cameras in the casinos, I can hack them, find the footage of the night we were, see whose knee dropped.”

“Babe, you don’t exactly have FBI level clearance anymore, you know that, right?”

“So? I can cover my tracks.”

Luke looked unconvinced. “I don’t know…”

“Do you want to find out, or not?”

Unable to deny his wife anything, Luke relented. “Okay, fine, let’s do it.”

She pulled her laptop onto her lap and the two of them scooted closer to each other so they were sitting against their headboard, leaning against each other.

After a few moments she was in and following their footsteps that fateful night.

“What if we can’t tell?” Luke asked after a bit. “Like, what if whichever one of us proposed didn’t get down on one knee, they just asked and we went off and did it?”

“Well eventually we’ll be able to see at what point we left to go to the chapel, so we should still be able to deduce it… or we won’t need to.”

Right there, on her screen, is their answer. Somehow or another, Penelope had come into the possession of a ring pop, and then her knee hit the ground, holding it up to him. They watched as he nodded his head, she put the candy on his finger, they kissed, and made their way towards the chapel, the ring pop already in his mouth.

“So that’s why your mouth was blue that morning.”

“I thought I had done jello shots.”

“And you thought I wouldn’t be okay with being married. I’m the one who proposed in the first place!”

“So what I’m hearing is, you should have gotten me an engagement ring instead of the other way around.”

Penelope fixed her husband a look.

“I’m kidding!”

Notes:

Fun fact: for her original (drunk) vows, Penelope sang "Lover" by Taylor Swift
