Work Text:

Tobio had this thing. That when it was scorched hot and his head got dizzy, it meant that it would be raining soon after. Jus,t sometimes he forgot he got such power and been ignoring the sign since morning, and now that it was the time to go home and the sky was dark, he still hadn’t it coming. but nor surprised of course.

Used his bag as an emergency umbrella, he ran to the lobby and take shelter. Not much student appeared at the hall, since it wasn’t that late. Except that Tobio just want to go home immediately. Nothing happened, just a second nature.

He extended a hand, his palm felt ticklish as the raindrops on it. He gazed at the sky, reckoned the heaviness. A habit he used to do with his sister, Miwa, to find out whether it was okay to break through the rain without getting fever later and burdened their grandpa. Most of the time, it ended with Miwa lied to him that it was better for them to wait only for her to run leaving Tobio behind so she reached their house first and won whatever battle they had have since forever.

Not yet he finished his doing, the rattling sound beside him caught his attention. He looked aside, pulled his wet hand back in. The newcomer was using his blazer to cover his head from the rain, pulling the collar from behind over his crown, left it riding through Tobio’s mind on why wasn’t he just took of the blazer. It would covered better. Tobio kept on track of him as he took of his half-drenched blazer and shook his head. His bright hair danced following the move and the water form his wet bangs splashed vanished in the air. Tobio had a hard time to catch his name from the name tag on his new companion chest as he kept moving. Tobio managed to read it when he finally stayed still, for enough time which made Tobio wondered too, but it turned out that he caught the stare. Tobio lifted his head, pretended he didn’t catch on an amused look on the other face.

“It’s finally raining season.”

Tobio made sure if there was only the two of them, which meant it was addressed for him, before he answered the statement.

“Technically, it’s not. It’s still August. Most likely because of the climate change, we can’t really tell nowadays.” Tobio straighten his lips as he glanced on the side. “Sorry, didn’t mean to be a nerd.”

“Don’t be. I like listening to you talk. Except that I can’t hear you well because of this, thoughtful rain.” So that was the reason why he leaned closer. Not that Tobio had anything else in mind. Still, Tobio squinted his eyes at the expression. Who on earth said thoughtful rain? “I’m Atsumu, by the way. Though you probably figured that one out.”

“Didn’t mean to stare. Can’t help it.” Tobio apologized. He hurriedly corrected himself when Atsumu rose one brow. “I mean you are here and near.” A chuckle. “And all.”

“I’m invading your privacy.”

“Exactly. I’m a person who gets distracted easily. Doesn’t mean I can ban you from being here. it’s not like I own this school or anything.” Tobio taken aback as he saw that now Atsumu attention was all in him. He leaned on his side with whole body facing him, arm crossed. His blazer hang on his forearm. “What?”

“I didn’t know you are easy to talk to. We really shouldn’t judge cover by it’s book, right, Tobio-kun?”

“It’s the other way around.” Tobio ignored the sudden first name basic even though it was the first time they talked to each other. Heck, it was the first time they were at a distance of less than a mil. Tobio might ever see him somewhere sometime, that bright hair shouldn’t that easy to be missed, but it wasn’t his fault their school had a lot of student.

“Had I know it I would invade your privacy sooner. You’re not the only one who’s been staring, by the way.”

Tobio bit a nail. “I’m sorry?”

Atsumu shrugged and shoved his hands on his pocket. “In my defense, it’s hard to not stare. You’re the one who go all the way to our building because the vending machine of yours was run out of milk.”

“That was one time.” Tobio mumbled under his breath. “How did you even know that?”

“Two, actually.” Atsumu dramatically put his fingers on his chin and tilted his head, “Or three. The whole school know. Probably you are the only one who don’t.”

Tobio bit his inner cheeks and sighed in defeat. “Fine, just drop it.”

He fixed his posture and grinned, leaned his back on the pillar. “What were you doing? Before I came here, I mean. With hand and all.”

“Just checking the rain.”

“Checking the rain.” Funny how Atsumu didn’t make it sound weird, Tobio noticed. “Well it looked like you have something in mind because your forehead was more wrinkled than usual.”

Again, Tobio ignored the fact that Atsumu had been watching him even before he was there. “Just remember something. My sister used to play prank on me during rain.”

“Don’t tell me she was doing that let’s race the one who got home first is winning or something childish like that.”

Tobio pursued his lips. “It was. How could you know that?”

“Because my stupid brother just the same.”

“My sister always wins because she cheats.”

“Meanwhile I, sometimes, like a wise man I am, let my brother wins.”

“That’s so, not like you.”

Atsumu stomped his foot, Tobio had to step back of startled. “Tobio-kun, not like I’ve been watching you since the first time I saw you during student orientation, you only learn my name not five minutes ago. You’re not knowing me enough to judge. We gotta change that, by the way.” He pointed his finger at Tobio.

Well now it was kind of hard to ignore the sudden confession. “Excuse me? You’ve been what?”

Atsumu cleared his throat, trying to disrupt the conversation, “Do you wanna do that stupid race? The one who who gets to the bust stop first is the winner. If I win, you have to go on a date with me on the weekend. If you win, you still have to go on a date with me on the weekend.”

Tobio felt hot, but maybe it was because the cold wind blew that his body needed to produce body heat. And the fact that Tobio willingly drop the topic, though. “You do realize it doesn’t benefit me no matter who’s the winner.”

“That was the purpose. Let’s do this.” Atsumu broke his knuckles before took one step of the shelter. Now the rain was pouring in him. His shirt got wet in a flash. “Can you please do me a favor and join me because it gets embarrassing.”

Tobio looked around and found some eyes were on them and sighed. “I didn’t agree on this.” He said, as he stepped side by side with Atsumu. He shivered when he felt the rain seeping into his blazer touching his skin.

“You’re an angel. I’m not playing coward and take the first start or anything. On three, you got it?”

Tobio missed one step when Atsumu started to run but he was kind enough to slow down and waited for him. “So that’s what you always do with your brother. And yet you still lose?”

Atsumu turned around and started to run backwards like it was the right thing to do. Tobio panicked.

“It’s all about being a big brother, Tobio-kun. You wouldn’t understand.”

“Okay, I understand. Now can you run like a normal person, please? I don’t want people think I know you.” Tobio gesticulated at him when he saw another person ran into their way from opposite direction. “Miya-san, watch out!”

“Oops, that was close. And we gotta work on that name too. Oh my god, I’m so excited we got a lot of things to do.” Atsumu did that little jump and landed, thankfully, safely on his feet. Tobio couldn’t believe his eyes.

“How old is your brother?” Unconsciously, before he could even think, Tobio asked him. Since maybe, he secretly enjoyed the chats with Atsumu too.

“See, it’s easier to talk when we are facing each other right? No question about him, please. I don’t know what kind of relationship you have with your sister, but I hate my brother.”

“Alright, fine. I’m not gonna ask about him. And I’m not gonna ask about anything else either before you come here. Please, we almost reach the gate.”

“Wait no, that’s not what-”

Tobio couldn’t hear more of him because apparently Atsumu was crashing the trash can near the gate. The crash was loud enough, the rumbled could be hear all over the field. After Tobio regain his consciousness, he found Atsumu laying on the ground with eyes closed, dry leaves and wet tissues around his body. He was rushing into him and crouching. Guilt was drawn all over his face when he checked on Atsumu.

“Oh my god. Oh god. Miya-san, are you okay? I’m so sorry I should’ve told you sooner about the trash can but you were talking and I can’t-Oh my god are you alive?” He bubbled. He didn’t even realize he was speaking nonsense.

“As far as I know, Tobio-kun,” Atsumu groaned, his finger pinched his temple, “no one ever die cause they hit a trash can.” Grimaced in pain, Atsumu opened his eyes, “This is so disgraceful.”

Relieved, Tobio couldn’t help his laugh now, “I know.” He didn’t care about other kids who were taking their pictures and videos anymore.

“I’m so humiliated and I can still feel pain in my back, my head also hurt and tomorrow going to be hell since my friends will not stop making fun of me. Can you do something to cheer me up?” Atsumu pleaded. Tobio was on his knee, with those blue eyes on him. His guilt and fear for being one many of reason why Atsumu got into this outrageous incident couldn’t be seen anymore. He had his head down, with rain drops from each strands of his hair. Atsumu couldn’t see well since the water hit straight to his eyes, but he was willing to bet on his twin brother’s life that Tobio was one of the most lovely thing he had ever seen in his entire life.

With a smile on his face, Tobio held out his hand. “Date on the weekend?”

Atsumu face lit up, didn’t even bother to tone it down in the midst of camera phones on him. He took Tobio’s hand, and like a magic, hen their skin touched he forgot about the soreness all over his body, “Well, I smell like a stale milk but I can tell that I’m the happiest person in this world.”
