Chapter Text
Kaeya Alberich, a sly man with a dark past. Currently he's feeling miserable reader will you go along this journey with me? drunk out of his mind and stumbling home after getting kicked out of the tavern by his former brother.
Kaeya felt miserable no.. that was an understatement. he was in agony doing worse then he had been doing in a while. Old memories bubbling up like soda, step by step he walked further away from the tavern and closer to his house. for you see a house isn't a home from time to time to Kaeya it was just a place he slept at. he did have a home but that home wasn't going to welcome him even after all these years he was alone. Even though he was almost constantly surrounded by people he felt alone, Kaeya Alberich was tired by constantly putting on a mask, and those feelings he drunk away just as he had done this evening.
Staggering home Kaeya barely made it home, unstable hands trying to get the keys into the door lock. fuck.. wrong key again he tried this time the door opened. stumbling inside. A rush of nausea suddenly catching him, staggering as quickly as his intoxicated mind can to the bathroom. Barely does he make it, vomit leaving his mouth just as he leans over the toilet toilets exist alright so do showers. it's bitter in his mouth and more acid then anything. he hasn't eaten in days all that's leaving his body is alcohol and acid, he feels a second wave of vomit coming this time managing to get his hair out of the way quick enough.
once done he sits on the ground, the inside of his mouth tasting bitter and his head feeling heavy. dragging himself off the floor he decides it isn't even worth it to try and get to his room settling on the couch instead. as he lays down an utter mess both physically and emotionally his eyes begin to slip shut. his intoxicated mind never fully grasping what he does, it's not like he cares either way tomorrow it'll be a forgotten memory. and just like that Kaeya drifts off to sleep, but not a comforting sleep no. No even Kaeya knows he cant have that, his sleep is like an endless abyss pitch-black and painful to look at. Once morning arises and the first rays of sunshine seep through his window onto his eye, Kaeya wakes up groggily and hungover. He sits himself up his head aching loudly in his mind.
stupid
why do you drink so much?
what's the point?
i could just.... i should just
the last thought he shakes off ''no'' he says to himself ''don't think like that'' truth is Kaeya was far to tired to do that to himself at the moment, putting himself down was his least favourite thing to do. standing up he walked to the bathroom and stood before the sink. all too sloppily he picked up a brush and combed through his hair, blue locks falling next to his face each time a section got a comb through. he looked at himself into the mirror loose hair and a dark blue eye with tired circles around it stared back at him. adjusting his outfit he stood up straight, walks out of the bathroom and grabs his sword in the hall. Kaeya leaves his home less dishevelled then when he entered it.
he yet again walks the streets of Mondstadt, waving at the early risers already up and going. They smile at him treat him with kindness, he returns the favour although its played on his part. can't let them know what really goes on in the mans mind of course.
it takes about thirty minutes for Kaeya to reach the knights headquarters, going inside he's greeted by a certain librarian dressed in purple. ''hello Kaeya you're here early, what is the occasion?'' she smiles though shortly ''did you forget to turn in a book? if so you know what happens'' quickly Kaeya shakes his head. ''no Lisa, I returned all my books three days ago, haven't checked out any new ones so far. that being said glad that that's you're first thought after seeing me'' that last sentence came off more venomous then he had intended it to be, maybe he was just tired of it. Lisa was quiet for a bit the same smile she had on first ''right, sorry its a habit you know that darling don't take it to heart. By the way jean told me to tell you that she left some paperwork on your desk'' great... just peachy throw the paperwork to the Cavalry captain without a Cavalry. ''of course tell her i'll work on it right now'' his voice sounded convincing enough, sounded as if he actually wanted to do paperwork happy to do it even. ''you know i must say Kaeya you've been working so hard lately, we're all so happy you've really changed.. and for the better'' the words Lisa threw at him were like blunt knifes,,, she was right of course she was but it hurt to hear it. Without another word he went to his office
once inside his eye twitched ever so slightly, this wasnt just a pile of paperwork it was a mountain of paperwork and he was sure he wouldnt be seen behind it. so ofcourse he sat down at his desk and started writing. although begrudgingly he started working on the mountain, the first hour went by quick the second slower and by the third his eyelids were having trouble being open. by the fourth he had fallen asleep.
...odd
really odd
this... it wasnt normal for Kaeya to dream, nightmares sure but dreams? never in a hundered years, and yet right now he was dreaming. Picking up seashells with diluc at the beach.. his brother. Kaeya smiled and although he knew it was a dream he refused to accept either option. Because you see right now it was either believing he was dreaming, or that his brother was spending time with him and enjoying it. to kaeya neither was possible but to him the former seemed more believable. It had to be that Diluc would never accept him as a brother after what he did all those years ago. and so Kaeya did the only plausible thing. he went along with this dream, scared of when it ended....
.......at least he wouldnt have to worry about that for a longgg time
