A Pichu Called Berry

Summary:

Immediately after his arrival at the colony, Astrotrain is assaulted by a tiny, tiny organic.

Or: Pichu has just found THE BEST NEW TRAINER. Everyone will be so jealous.

Notes:

This is a series of shorts set after the end of the Cybertronian war, and after Astrotrain has served his sentence for some war crimes. Like many of the other ex-convicts (but never ex-Cons), he's made his way to Friendship Colony and Cybertron City to try and start over.

Chapter Text

Astrotrain stood outside the spaceport and looked around at the bustling city. There were several Cybertronians, which made sense since the place had been founded by Commander Prowl and his colonists, but there were also a lot of the local dominant species (humans, he reminded himself) and their animals. Even after reading the briefing packet, he hadn’t been prepared to see so many organics running around.

And he was even less prepared for one of them to squeak happily upon seeing him and run up his foot.

It had literally just charged up his plating and was standing on top of his foot squeaking excitedly and wiggling around in a way that seemed pretty dangerous. Quickly, he reached down and scooped the tiny creature up, intending to deposit it back into the grass it had charged out of. But instead of being frightened like a normal organic was when someone a thousand times its size was holding it would be, the tiny creature’s excited squeaking increased.

“The frag?” Instead of putting the tiny creature back into the grass, he lifted it to his face so he could take a look at it. It was as tiny as he thought, not even half a meter tall, with yellow and black body fuzz--fur, organics called it fur, he corrected himself--and huge ears that made up most of its height. It blinked bright blue optics at him and then waved a tiny arm when it realized he was looking at it.

“Pi pi!”

Astrotrain blinked at the creature. “Uh, I don’t follow.”

“Pi, Pichu, pi!” The small creature didn’t seem at all dismayed that he had no idea what it was saying.

“Oh! Did you catch that wild Pichu for us?” The former Decepticon looked down when he heard the speaker, surprised to be so casually addressed by one of the local inhabitants. He knew he was intimidatingly big, even for a Decepticon.

“I think he caught me, actually.”

The human nodded. “Pokemon do seem to take a liking to you Cybertronians for some reason. If you need any help raising it, any of the Pokemon Professors or League Champions would be happy to give you assistance. Or if you prefer help from one of your people, Commander Starscream is at the Decepticon Training Center on the edge of town.”

He looked when the human pointed, and saw a tall tower with an obvious Seeker’s aerie on the top. “Uh, what if I don’t want it at all?”

The Pichu shocked him. Astrotrain yelped, more in surprise that the little creature had generated the burst of energy more than in pain.

“I’m not sure your new friend will let you go.” The human smiled and shook their head. “I suggest you go to the training center or the Pokemon lab fairly quickly.”

“Uh, yeah. Probably not the Commander’s tower though. I don’t think he needs a reason to laugh at me.”

Chapter 2

Notes:

This installment is set a few weeks after the first. Blitzwing was sentenced after Astrotrain, and was released accordingly.

Chapter Text

“What the frag is that?” Blitzwing stared at the tiny creature, almost half a meter tall and bright yellow, standing on Astrotrain’s shoulder.

“Huh?” Astrotrain turned to look and smiled at the little organic. “Oh, that’s Berry. I told you I had a Pokemon. Or he has a triple changer. I’m still not sure who’s in charge.”

“Okay but you didn’t tell me it was so little! I’m gonna squish it if I vent too hard!”

Astrotrain laughed. “No you won’t. He’s real good at letting you know if you’re about to hurt him.”

“What’s he gonna do, squeak at me?” Blitzwing took a step back, to keep a healthy distance between himself and Astrotrain’s fragile little companion.

“No, he shocks you. Doesn’t do much with my plating, and probably not yours, but he blistered Scavenger’s paint the other day. Hook had to borrow Ratchet’s sander and everything.”

“Woah, really? I know everyone says the peace is more stable here in the colony than at home, but I wasn’t expecting that. I thought Hook hated Ratchet.”

“Oh he does. But Wheeljack won’t ever get his new tools made if he frags off the only other medic on the planet, you know?”

“I guess. This is gonna be weird, isn’t it?”

“Yeah, it’s not the weirdest thing ever, but it’s gonna mess with you for a few days. But Commander Prowl had a peace agreement hammered out here before Megatron’s trial was even started back home. They've been making it work pretty well.”

“Sounds a lot better than home, then. Do I gotta report in or anything?”

“Your ID got scanned when you landed right?”

“Yeah.”

“Then you’re already on Commander Prowl’s roll sheet and you can do whatever you want. Come on, Berry and I will show you the city. He knows all the best spots to get food and candy.”
