A Loafly Day

Summary:

Nanami goes grocery shopping with Higuruma. Surely, nothing can go wrong.

Notes:

Stupid thing I wrote in like 5 minutes before going to bed. Don't expect too much, lol.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“So what type of bread are you looking for?” Higuruma asked, eyes scanning the never-ending shelves of bread, many of which he had probably never taken notice of before.

“It’s a sourdough loaf with 65% hydration. It should be here somewhere.”

“Does the percentage really matter?”

Nanami turned with a scoff, holding three fingers up in the air.

“Of course it does. First, the crumb texture-“

“Alright, no need to go on,” Higuruma interrupted with a wave of his hand, “I get it.”

They stood and looked for a while, reading the fine prints on several etiquettes. When Nanami was crouched down and looking at the loaves on the bottom shelf, he heard Higuruma clear his throat behind him.

Turning his head, Nanami saw that Higuruma was holding a plain loaf of white bread in his hands, eyes serious as he looked at Nanami.

“Kento, let’s get this bread, shall we?”

Nanami stared in disbelief, his mouth hanging open before it snapped shut.

“Who taught you that?”

“Itadori,” Higuruma said with a shrug as he put the loaf back on the shelf, his face showing no emotion as his eyes went over the rest of the selection in front of him.

“Well… please stop,” Nanami said as he got up, turning to look at another section.

“Why? Your reaction was quite funny.”

“Unfortunately, your joke was not.”

Pointing at another loaf, Higuruma once again turned to Nanami with his monotone voice.

“Wow, I’m toast once we get back to your place.”

Nanami didn’t reply, quickly picking out whatever bread closest resembled the one he had in mind and shoving it into the shopping basket. As he went to leave, Higuruma stepped in front of him, trapping him in the aisle.

Grabbing another bag, Higuruma held it up against his chest and peered at Nanami. Nanami’s shoulders slumped when he saw what was in it, already anticipating the bad pun.

“Why are you leaving when I am clearly on a roll.”

Putting his face in his hands, Nanami let out a muted groan, rubbing his eyes as he spoke.

“Hiromi.”

“Yes?”

“I am going to leave you in this maze and go the cash register without you.”

“I thought I was the one paying seeing as how, according to Gojo, I'm your sugar daddy.”

“Funny considering how I have more money than you.”

“So it’s my personality you're here for, then.”

“After today, clearly not.”

Higuruma huffed and Nanami was elated to see that he had finally dropped the act. The relief only lasted a split second however as he saw that Higuruma was holding one hand behind his back, clearly hiding something.

“Am I allowed to make one final pun?”

Nanami pursed his lips, but seeing the slight twinkle in Higuruma’s eyes, he sighed and nodded. Bringing his hand forth, Higuruma was holding the exact loaf Nanami had been looking for. Leaning in and dropping it into the basket, he whispered so only the two of them would hear.

“I loaf you.”

Nanami bit the insides of his cheeks to keep himself from grimacing. The last pun was definitely the worst of them all and by the smug look on Higuruma's face, he knew exactly what Nanami was thinking.

Shaking his head, Nanami grabbed Higuruma's sleeve and walked them out of the bread aisle, giving it a gentle tug as he whispered back:

“I love you, too.”

Notes:

I don't think this was too OOC for Higuruma because I believe that deep down, he's a bastard who enjoys making bad puns and watching people suffer.

This is his and Itadori's text convo btw.
