Chapter 1: First Page

Chapter Text

Hello there, my name is Hiccup Haddock III, great name right? I spent my whole life moving from city to city, town to town and home to home. All I've ever wanted was a place to stay. A home for me to live in longer than two days.

Finally, with the coming of my sixteenth birthday, I have been granted my wish. We are moving today, going to our next home. A home we have brought. A home we can stay in. A home that will be mine to call my own.

If you are reading this, however, it means you have found my journal. I'm not sure why I am writing this, it's not like anything strange or wonderful happens in my life. I just feel like I should.

I am starting a new chapter in my life and I hope that it will be better than ever before.

See you soon,

Hiccup Haddock III

With a content sigh, Hiccup closed his journal, tracing the family crest on the brown leather cover. He let a soft smile come to his face as he looked out his window.

He found himself awing at the scenery as it passed him by. The sun just peeked above the horizon, glowing the fresh trees in an amber light reflecting off the newly fallen snow that landed during the night. The trees seemed so full of life and even the birds and animals of the forest called out in a happy aubade.

Everything was so beautiful, so amazing, so peaceful. It was perfect. A year where Hiccup could just be a teen once more. And a year where his family could actually be that- a family.

If only he knew how those things would never be. If only he knew how bad things were about to get. If only he knew how much pain he was about to go through, he might not have let himself be drawn in so easily. He might have told his family he didn't mind travelling and turned around. But he didn't, and now, things were in motion.

No turning back now.
