Chapter Text
"Three beds please," Bruce stated, handing the front desk his card. The hotel's walls were shiny, much different to what Superman was used to, His secret identity wasn't as rich as Batman's. Robin, Superman and Batman were all on a mission, although they were in their civilian forms. The gang needed to stay at the hotel for a night while the rest of the Super Friends figured out the details of the mission.
The three all headed up to their room, chatting happily as they went. Robin was leading, cheerfully skipping down the hall, with Bruce and Clark next to each other behind him. Clark looked over to Bruce and stared for a second, although he wasn’t quite sure at what. Maybe it was the way his hair fell in his eyes, or how his hands were always slightly in, slightly out of his pockets. But something always made Clark admire his “Friend”. After a few seconds of walking, the three arrived at an elevator. Robin pressed the button and they waited patiently.
“So, how’s Krypto nowadays?” Bruce turned to Superman, starting up another conversation.
“Oh, Louis took him in the divorce. She said she’ll give him back soon though.” Clark’s expression went from slightly happy to sorrowful. Bruce quickly put a hand on his shoulder with a reassuring look. That was all Clark needed to feel better. Everytime Batman did literally anything, he got these pains in his chest. He couldn’t stop thinking about him, like an earworm with a song of love. When the two realised how close they were, they both quickly backed and looked away.
Robin looked over at the two with mischief in his eyes. Dick was always acutely aware of their little crushes on each other, In Fact it seemed like everyone but them knew. The Super Friends had a group chat with everyone except Batman and Superman, just to discuss the two. Specifically their relationship and how cute they would be together.
The elevator finally arrived and they all got in, only just realising how small it was. Robin went in first, heading to the left. Although he was small, he took up both corners. That left Batman and Superman to squish themselves next to each other. Batman went next to Robin on the back wall, then Clark followed. He managed to just not hit the closing door, but he was extremely close to Batman. The men's hips and shoulders were just touching, not enough to be a problem but enough to make both of them blush. Bruce reached over Clark, giving less room between them. He pressed the 6th button, the top floor.
The ride in the elevator seemed to go on forever, and the fact that Bruce and Clark were squished together wasn’t making it any better. Both of them avoided making eye contact, maybe if they didn’t acknowledge the situation it would just magically not be happening anymore. The room fell silent, but the two didn’t notice, only Dick. He was watching this all unfold, He couldn’t help but smile from across, well more like 50cm, the elevator. Not only was Dick strong on and off the battlefield, but he was also smart. He knew that by standing in that spot, the two would be forced to get closer together. Neither of them wanted to invade Robin’s space, he knew that, so they would be forced to invade each others.
Clark was feeling what some might call gay panic. His heart felt like it was about to explode out of his chest and sing him a song or something. He looked over to Bruce for the first time since they got in the elevator. Although he couldn’t see it completely, Bruce’s face was a deep shade of red. Clark could feel himself start to stare at him, admiring every crease in his skin, every strand of hair. Anything that Bruce was, had or did was perfect to him.
Bruce bit his fist, he could feel his face becoming hotter every second. Clark was barely an inch away from him, and he was just standing there. He wanted to do something about the situation, sweep Clark off his feet and walk into the sunset. Kiss him, atleast. God dammit Bruce, he’s your friend! Just say something, do something! Anything!
After what felt like forever, the elevator dinged and the doors opened. The gang walked out calmly, as if no romantic tension was there and everything was completely fine.
“Um… so what room are we in?” Clark tried to break the silence, as if he only just noticed.
“Eeuhh, 615.” Bruce said as he finally looked over at Superman. Robin smiled again, leading them down the hallway. When they arrived at the room, Bruce unlocked the door. There was nothing out of the ordinary with the room's layout. A small lounge chair, Bathroom, one single bed and one double bed. Wait, a double bed! Clark and Bruce looked in horror as the wave of realisation smacked into them. Dick, however, pushed past the two. He happily trotted over to unpack his stuff onto the single bed. Bruce and Clark slowly strolled into the room.
A million thoughts circled through Clark’s head at once, One bed? But how? He’s gonna hate me after this! Out of all of his thoughts, one stuck out like a sore thumb. What if Bruce wants to? The mere thought that Bruce wanted to sleep in the same bed as him made Clark want to melt into the ground. His face turned redder than ever as he realised that there wasn’t really any other choice. The only other thing to sleep on was that small armchair, but that was way too small for either of them. Maybe Batman and Robin could sleep in the double? That possibility was also out, as the boy wonder had begun to get comfortable in the bed, nearly asleep already.
Bruce was stunned, his first thought was that the desk lady did this on purpose, but that disappeared when he looked over at Superman. His face was pure terror, Oh no, he doesn’t want this! He doesn’t like me, why would he? This is all my fault. Before he could finish his thought process, Superman's expression changed to confusion, then to concern, then to… excitement? Not only that, but his face was read as his cape. That alone made Bruce smile (And blush a bit). After the two’s inner monologues calmed down they tried to actually talk to each other like normal human beings.
“So… one bed, huh?” Clark took off his glasses as he shut the room door.
“Yep…“ Bruce tried not to make the situation a big deal. “I’m gonna go uh- shower-”
“Y-Yeah okay-um have…fun” Clark knew that he was stuttering, that his speech was grammatically incorrect and he was probably making a fool out of himself, but he didn’t give a shit at that point. He was too flustered to care.
Bruce froze for a second, wondering if they weren’t going to talk about the sleep arrangement more than that. He eventually grabbed a towel and headed off to shower.
Clark stood there for a good minute, still frozen. He could hear the water hitting the floor in the shower, He could hear Dicks’ snoring from the other side of the room, and he could hear his heart beating faster than ever. He was about to sleep in the same bed with his crush, Bruce freaking Wayne.
As the shock wore off, Clark got ready for bed. He plugged in his phone, unpacked his stuff and made sure his Superman outfit was ready just in case he needed a quick change. The whole time, he couldn’t stop thinking of the elevator. Was Bruce’s face really red, or was I just imagining things? Then there was when they were both standing in the door, Batman was really close to him. Now that he thinks about it, he and Batman were always standing close to each other. Like when they first fought, Bruce really got up in his face, not that he minded, but it was still odd. Clark remembers trying not to smile or blush during the fight.
Bruce got out of the shower in a few minutes. He was wearing a tank-top and sweatpants as pyjamas and Clark realised he could see his muscles now. Clark shook of the blush and hopped into the shower
Bruce sat on the bed he and Clark would be sharing. Not only did he look like a mess, but he was blushing like one too. Batman liked to think of himself as this calm and collected person, someone where you could never tell what they were thinking. He was usually like that, but not right now. Right now he was lying in a double bed with wet hair and a face that looked like a tomato. He really couldn’t believe he was actually going to sleep in the same bed as the perfect, totally awesome Superman. Clark Kent himself. Bruce felt like he was in middle school again, gushing over some fictional character. Except this time, it was real. A real, American man. I mean, not like they were gonna actually cuddle or anything, Clark doesn’t like him back after all, in fact Bruce doesn’t like him either… Definitely not. No crush here.
Before long, they were in bed, Clark on the left and Bruce on the right. They weren't sleeping yet, in fact they were both sitting up still. Both, however, were still blushing messes.
“Hey… I’m sorry about this.” Bruce gestured to the double bed. “I thought it would be three separate ones… If you want I could sleep on the floor or-”
“No! No… it’s fine. I don’t mind, really.” Clark interrupted, while he didn’t want Bruce to know he was crushing hard for him, he didn’t want Bruce to sleep on the uncomfortable floor. “The floor would… be bad for your back, that’s all.” Clark looked down, before immediately looking back up at Batman. His expression was some mix of happiness and concern.
“Well if you insist. Goodnight, Clark.” Bruce smiled as he turned off the lights. Clark smiled like a fangirl meeting Darren Chriss, even hearing Bruce say his name was enough to make him happy.
“Goodnight, Bruce.”
------------
The sun shone brightly through the curtains as Clark woke up. At first he was just awake enough to realise it was day, he opened his eyes and looked over to the alarm clock. 7:12 Perfect, I can sleep in more. Just as Clark was about to fall back asleep he noticed something. Something was wrapped around him, as if someone was holding him. He looked down to see a muscley arm wrapped around his stomach. Superman froze as he realised who the only person it could be. Bruce. Clark blushed harder than ever before, he turned his head just to make sure he wasn’t kidnapped or anything. Sure enough, Batman was sleeping peacefully behind him. Clarks body was fully pressed into Bruce’s. His bigger figure made him feel a small sense of security, Like he was safely tucked away in a giant teddy bear's arms.
Clark put his head back onto the pillow. He wasn’t sure how to feel. Happy? Surprised? Content? Maybe a mix of all three. He wanted to move away, but something in him was keeping him put. The warmth of Bruce’s body made Superman want to stay in his arms forever, but what would Batman think? Would he move away immediately? Tell Clark to never do that again? Kick him out of the Super Friends? No. Batman wouldn’t do that… he thinks. Bruce is caring and compassionate, he wouldn’t lash out for no reason!
Maybe Clark’s asleep self was onto something, with the whole cuddling thing. Clark smiled a bit before taking a deep breath and moving his hand down to Bruce’s. He took his hand, locking them together. Clark stared down at Batman’s hand and smiled. From behind, Bruce smiled back.
Robin, however, grinned from across the room. He quickly took a photo of the two cuddling and texted it to the Superbat group chat.
<BoyWonder> They're cuddling, but neither knows the other is awake. The ship has sailed!
