Summary
Years ago, I was in a bad place. I always found great comfort in fictional worlds, so that was where I spent most of my days. One day, however, things got out of hand. The worlds started to blend. Fiction had taken over my mind, and every villain was free to roam the empty void that was once my spirit. I started writing this story many years ago, and the door to reality is still waiting for me. It's a self-indulgent story that isn't written for anyone except myself. It's time to sail the waters of reality on my own.

And then he freezes as he realizes what he actually said.
And so does the rest of the newsroom.
And it’s like he can see the air swell in front of his eyes as his face flushes red and the group takes what feels like a collective inhale before nearly everyone in the newsroom starts talking at once.
In a move that probably makes him look even guiltier, Clark instinctually claps a hand over his mouth as if to take back the words.

Warning for gore and unpleasant imagery in certain chapters. I'm dipping my toes in the perilous waters of flash fiction [< 500 words] once again; these take a lot longer to write than everyone thinks.
As evidenced by the tags this deals with multiple incarnations of Batman's villains across a few different universes; spans multiple decades, features points in time from the anchoring and character-defining to the entirely mundane. Some things even follow established comic canon, while others don't at all. I won't call this a magnum opus in the least, but I do so hope you enjoy it. Cue entirely sporadic updates.

I seem to be a fan of emotionally intimate one-on-one scenes, don't I? Ahh well, another one won't hurt anyone.
Will one Jonathan Mackenzie Crane ever get to his intended point? Maybe. Maybe not. He does like to let things drag on at the worst of times, if not always purposefully. This is one of those "break" scenes smashed between other, more major scenes. It doesn't introduce new characters and isn't a super essential part of an arc if you've been keeping up with my work, but it does contain a few tidbits of character information that might be new to some readers. Provided that sort of thing entices you. I will say one more thing; it's fun writing characters who understand each other.
