Pete is eight when he is truly confronted with death for the first time. It's not the loss of a pet or a grandparent whose name he doesn't remember. No. Pete is eight-years-old, sat at the dining room table and coloring in the book his dad had sent. The pictures are funny, and he can't read the cover ("Vietnamese," his mommy had said), but he loves it all the same. Then there's a knock at the door.
