Work Text:
Marinette was hanging out with her Kitty Section friends in the Couffiaine’s houseboat when Luka came out.
“Hey, guys! Check this out,” he told the group.
He had a Parrot on his wrist, a Great Green Macaw, to be exact.
“Who’s this?” Marinette asked.
“This is Polly. He belongs to a friend of the captain who has asked her to watch him for the week.”
Everyone gathered around.
“Oh! He’s so pretty!” Rose said
“Who’s a pretty boy?” Polly said.
At that moment, the akuma alarm went off.
“We'd better deal with that,” Adrien said, “Plagg, Claws Out!”
The other heroes transformed as the parrot watched.
A few days later, they discovered Polly had learned some new words.
“Plagg, Claws Out!” The parrot said.
“How are we going to explain this?” Juleka asked.
“We’ll just say he picked it up from a friend, who has a pet cat named Plagg who uses his claws too much.”
“I am no pet!” The Kwami huffed.
Polly noticed the shiny ring on Adrien’s hand and grabbed it with his beak.
“Aaaah! Hey, give that back!”
Polly dropped the ring and stepped forward, which got the ring onto his toe.
“Plagg, Claws Out!” Polly said.
“What?! No!” Plagg cried as he was sucked into the ring.
Polly was now covered in black with cat ears on his head and a green paw print on his chest.
Everyone stared in shock. “Okay, no one panic,” Marinette said, “We can just take the ring off.”
But Polly flew towards the window and, with his new super strength, smashed right through it.
“Okay, now we can panic,” Marinette said and texted DEFCON 1 on the team’s chat.
Parrot Noir, as the team had dubbed him, was sitting in a tree in the park when they found him.
“Okay,” Ladybug said, “Pigella, use your power to get him down here, and we’ll grab him.”
Pigella nodded, “Gift!” Inside the present, a vision of a bag of birdseed appeared.
Parrot Noir started to fly down, but a swarm of pigeons beat him to it.
“No! Go away!” Pigella cried, but it was no use. The pigeons swarmed around the image of birdseed, and the commotion scared Parrot Noir off.
Next, they found him on a bench by the Seine.
“Sublimation,” Rooster Bold whispered and gave himself the power of invisibility.
He had almost reached the parrot when a car drove by and splashed a puddle all over him.
“Squawk!” Parrot Noir flew away at the sight of the watery ghost.
Miss Hound would only have to hit him once, and she would be able to summon him at any time.
“Fetch!” She said and threw the ball, but before it hit the parrot, a dog jumped up and caught it in her mouth.
“No! Bad dog!”
Once she retrieved the ball, she tried again,” Fetch!”
But again, a dog caught it.
“Oh, c’mon!”
She gave up after the eighth time a dog caught her ball.
Ladybug decided on a more direct approach.
“You’re just going to lasso him?” Rena asked.
“He’s using a Miraculous; it won’t hurt him,” Ladybug replied.
Parrot Noir was flying above the street. Once he was in range, Ladybug threw her yo-yo around him.
“Yes! I got him! Waaahhh!”
The parrot just kept flying, dragging Ladybug with him.
“A little help here!” Ladybug cried.
Rena and Vesperia grabbed onto her and managed to slow the parrot down.
“Now what?” Vesperia asked.
“Polymouse, use your power and get up the string,” Ladybug ordered.
“Okay, Multiplication!”
Soon, the Polymice were climbing up. They were nearly there, but then Parrot Noir managed to wriggle out of the yo-yo.
“Aaaah!” The Polymice yelled as they fell. Fortunately, they landed on Ladybug, Rena Rouge and Vesperia, who had fallen into a pile when the parrot broke free.
“Bet you I can catch him first!” Space Monkey told Solar Bunnyx, “You wish, Monkey brain!”
They had decided to use the space power-ups to catch the parrot and had been searching for him for half an hour.
“There he is!” Space Monkey cried and sped forward, hand outstretched.
Parrot Noir ducked, and Space Monkey shot past.
“My turn!” Solar Bunnyx said she flew down alongside the parrot, but he spread his wings, and the air draft pushed him above her.
They went on like this for some time.
“I got him!” They both said and flew toward him, but he dived down, causing the two heroes to crash into each other.
“Ow! Aaaah!”
After they landed, they stared up at the sky, breathing hard.
“Who’s a pretty boy?”
He was sitting in a tree, looking down at them.
“I hate that parrot,” Solar Bunnyx said, Space Monkey nodding in agreement.
Second Chance!” Viperion called.
“He’ll go left. Then right. Then upward,” He told Ryuko.
“Wind Dragon!”
She flew up, trying to keep Parrot Noir contained. But no matter how many instructions Viperion called out, Parrot Noir would always have a new direction to fly. Until eventually, his five minutes were up, and the parrot got away.
“So… many… possibilities,” he said, exhausted.
“Alright, everyone,” Pegasus told his group, “Here's the plan. Purple Tigress and Minotaurox will herd him here while Caprikid uses his power to create a lure, and Carapace will trap him in a shield.”
Everyone nodded.
At first, everything went well. Tigress and Minotaurox got him to their location, and Caprikid used Genesis to create a lure, but as the parrot was about to land, a cat jumped out of a bush attempting to catch him.
“No! Where did that cat come from!” Carapace asked as the surprised cat was quickly subdued by the Miraculous-wielding bird, who upon defeating his enemy, flew away.
“How are we losing to a bird?!” Ladybug cried out.
No one had an answer for her.
“It’s all over social media,” Rena Rouge told them, “Shadow Moth has to know what is going on by now.”
And he’ll send an Akuma to catch him and retrieve my Miraculous,” Adrien said gloomily.
Ladybug straightened up, “Maybe that’s exactly what we need.”
“What?!” Everyone asked.
Birdcatcher was bruised and exhausted, but after hours of work, he had done it! He had caught the Parrot with the Black Cat Miraculous.
“Strange,” Shadow Moth said in his mind, “I would have expected the heroes to have tried to stop you.”
“It doesn't matter, the Miraculous is now yours.”
“I wouldn't be too sure of that,” Ladybug's voice called out.
Birdcatcher looked around to discover the heroes had surrounded him.
“But thanks for doing all the hard work for us.”
The akuma looked around nervously as the heroes closed in.
Everyone sat exhausted in the houseboat, Polly peacefully eating in his cage.
“New rule,” Marinette said, “No one is allowed to get a pet parrot."
She was met with unanimous agreement.
