Work Text:
Logan sat reading in the living room of the mind palace. He held his book in one hand, the other carding through Virgil's soft strands of hair. Most days could find the two like this, existing together and sharing an easy silence. It would start with Logan reading on the couch for varying lengths of time before Virgil would show up, plop his head on Logan's lap, and pull out his phone. Sometimes he would just mindlessly scroll through Tumblr. Other times, he preferred to plug in his headphones, close his eyes, and listen to music. No matter what it was, Logan enjoyed the quiet peace they shared.
"GUYS!" Roman's dramatic voice bellowed through the mind palace. Virgil tensed at the noise before relaxing when he realized it was just Roman.
"What Princy?" He grumbled, opening his eyes. (Today had been a listen to music and nap day.)
"It's snowing!!" This time the overexcited and loud voice belonged to Patton. The two came barreling into the living room, dressed from head to toe in snow gear.
"Yes, it does that sometimes." Logan hummed. Roman had complained endlessly about how dull the mind palace's outside was, so he created a random weather generator. Now no matter the time of year, they would get a random mix of weather from all seasons.
"Sooo let's go play! It's been a while since it snowed, and even longer since we did something when it did!" Roman was already grabbing Virgil's hand and pulling him off the couch, completely ignoring the other side's grumbled protests. Logan frowned as Virgil's warmth left him. He had been quite comfortable.
"Or we could stay inside and not put ourselves at risk of getting sick. I would prefer not to nurse you all back to health when that inevitably happens." Logan stated but closed his book and set it on the coffee table.
"Logan you wound me!" Roman clutched at his heart, flopping back against the wall. "What happened to in sickness and in health?"
"We're not married."
"You know what I mean!"
"Fine, but no complaining when you catch a cold." Logan and Virgil summoned their snow clothes, and once everyone was adequately shielded from the cold, they went outside.
Roman and Patton ran ahead of the other two. Patton dove headfirst into a snowdrift while Roman scooped down and gathered some snow into his hand. He packed it into a snowball and then threw it, soft enough not to hurt but hard enough to break apart on impact when it hit Virgil squarely in the face.
Virgil wiped the snow off his face and crouched down. "Oh, you're on." He threw a snowball, but Roman dodged it.
"You'll have to do better than that, mi amor!" Roman laughed and crouched down to scoop more snow into his hands. Virgil took advantage of his momentary distraction to run forward and tackle him into the snow. Logan watched the two continue to chase each other around and wrestle in the snow with a soft smile on his face.
"Logan! Come build a snowman with me!" Patton called from where he was already working on building the base. Logan knelt down and started forming the middle. He rolled the snow in Patton's direction, packing it until it was slightly smaller than Patton's. Together the two lifted the ball of snow and positioned it on the base. Logan set to making the head while Patton went to look for rocks and sticks to decorate it.
Patton returned as Logan was placing the head on top of the snowman. He handed the sticks to Logan and started arranging the rocks to form the eyes, mouth, and buttons. Logan positioned the sticks in the snowman to look like arms. Patton summoned a carrot, hat, and pair of gloves and arranged them on the snowman.
Patton stepped back to admire the snowman. "She's beautiful." She was definitely not. It was extraordinarily misshapen, and its arms were already starting to sag. But Logan knew better than to mention any of that. "What should we name her?" Patton continued, oblivious to Logan's train of thought.
"Patton, it's snow, it doesn't need a name."
"Of course she does! I'm thinking Amelia."
Logan opened his mouth to say something, but before he could, Roman and Virgil crashed into Bartholomew, causing the snowman to fall over and break apart.
"Amelia!" Patton cried.
Roman and Virgil stared down at the pile of snow that used to be a snowman. "Mi Vida, I'm so sorry. We weren't paying attention to our surroundings." Roman apologized.
"We can help make a new one," Virgil added, stooping down to pick up the hat and gloves.
"Wait! Leave them!" Patton yelped. Virgil retracted his hand, sending a quizzical look in Patton's direction. "I want to give her a funeral." Usually, Logan would protest the absurdity of such a request, but they were all familiar with the look of determination on Patton's face. Whenever he got that look, it was pointless trying to argue with him.
So instead, Roman summoned two shovels, handed one to Virgil, and together the two started digging a shallow hole deep enough to fit the hat, gloves, sticks, and rocks. Once it was deep enough, Patton gently laid said items in the grave and filled the hole with the upturned dirt. He summoned a tombstone with Amelia's name and placed it at the top of the upturned ground. They let a moment of silence pass in remembrance of the fallen snowman.
After the ceremony, the four set about constructing Amelia Junior. The process went by much quicker with twice the number of people, so a new snowman was formed and decorated in no time. This one didn't look much better than its namesake.
"Oooh let's go sledding!" Patton hummed, already pulling Virgil by the hand towards the hill. Virgil stumbled after him, almost tripping before he found his footing and could keep pace with the other side. Roman watched the two, then held out his hand to Logan.
"Shall we join them, my darling?" Logan nodded and took his hand. Together they followed after their other boyfriends, Roman swinging their hands between them as they walked.
By the time they reached the hill, Patton and Virgil were already halfway down and steadily gaining speed. Patton whooped as they went over a bump in the snow, causing them to catch some air. Virgil clung tighter to Patton, but his laughter could be heard too.
Logan startled as he was swept off his feet. "Roman! I insist you put me down." Logan protested, but Roman was already stepping onto the sled he must have summoned when Logan wasn't paying attention. The creative side sat down, positioning Logan safely on his lap, before pushing the sled forward enough that gravity took hold and pulled it down the hill. Roman laughed loudly, and Logan felt the rest of the world fade away as he admired his boyfriend. His face was lit up with so much joy that Logan knew he would do anything to make him feel like that for the rest of their lives. His hair blew wildly around him in the wind, but he still managed to look like the Disney prince that he practically was.
A look of fear marred his face, so Logan tore his gaze away to look in for the cause of his concern. Patton and Virgil were sitting together, backs turned, oblivious to the two racing towards them without any sign of slowing.
"Watch out!" Roman yelled and dug his foot into the snow on their side, attempting to steer them out of the way or at least slow their descent. Patton and Virgil looked back, eyes widening when they saw their two boyfriends barrelling towards them. They quickly jumped to their feet and moved out of the way dragging their sled with them.
Roman sighed and lifted his leg back onto the sled now that the path was clear. They slid past Patton and Virgil and eventually slowed to a stop. As they got off the sled, Patton bounced over to them, sled in hand, with Virgil trailing behind.
"Let's go again, but race this time!"
"I like the way you think, my love!" Roman exclaimed, scooping up his and Logan's sled and running back up the hill. Patton chased after him laughing. Virgil looked up the hill at them.
"How do they have that much energy." He grumbled as he started the trek back up the hill.
Logan walked with him. "I believe that is a mystery that will forever remain unsolved."

The next day Logan woke first. The four had spent the rest of the day outside in the snow, ice skating, sledding, and so on. The day ended with them falling asleep in a pile on Roman's bed after warming up with hot chocolate. Logan's sleepy haze of contentment was shattered as he registered the ache behind his eyes, his sore throat, and how congested his nose was.
His groan stirred the others who woke with mumbled greetings of good morning. Virgil clued in on his discomfort first.
"What's wrong, Lo?" He mumbled, burying his face in his pillow. His voice was slightly raspy, but no more so than it usually was in the mornings, so Logan could tell he wasn't sick.
"No fair." He pouted, his hoarse voice barely audible.
"What is it, Starlight?" Roman asked, sitting up. Logan just groaned in response.
"He's pouting, which means he's sick." Patton laughed, getting out of bed to make some tea and soup for Logan. They'd all had enough sick days that this was routine for them.
Logan grumbled, pushing Roman back down and cuddling closer to his chest. "M'not pouting."
"Of course not, love." Virgil said, the smile evident in his voice.
"Shut up," Logan whined. "How come I'm the only one who got sick?"
Virgil shrugged. "Bad luck, I guess." He ran his fingers through Logan's hair, gently massaging his scalp. Logan leaned into the touch, sighing softly.
Patton eventually returned with some food and tea to help Logan feel better. The rest of the day after was spent caring for Logan, and if the other three ended up sick the next day, that was ok because Logan was there to take care of them too.
In sickness and in health, after all.
