The December of S and W

Summary:

Grief is a normal human trait you can sink in its darkness as much as you need but letting it control you will not only have consequences on you but also on your loved ones…
or basically just making the fact Wilbur f***ed a salmon fish more realistic, romantic and sad.

Notes:

Chapter 1: Adjusting

Notes:

Ayo! this chapter turned out better than I expected... I know it doesn't have much of the plot or any action in it but that's how my first chapters usually turn out...(Introducing characters and shit y'know?)
Also if you are wondering yes, this au/fanfic was anticipated to be a romantic fic between Wilbur and Sally but I always like twisting shit, don't I? The main idea is still the same but uh... I made it more complicated just like I always do... Anyways ignore my dumbass shit and ENJOY!!!

Chapter Text

The last faint sunrays were showing on the residences' doorsteps on Paradise Street. While the fleeting rays said their goodbyes to the Blackstone pavements and crawled back to their home, a loud crashing sound came from the Soot’s house. Standing in the kitchen stood a 25-year-old man in front of the flaming stove. Burning his fingers while holding a hot pan the man let out an audible scream, resulting in the pan falling from his hands and crashing his feet. Jogging on his left foot to avoid using his hurt leg, the 25-year-old man managed to hit his skull against the pans and pots in the open upper cabinet. While being 6’6 can be a dream to most average-height males, at this specific moment it was a nightmare for this poor brunet man. Hurt by all those unfortunate situations the man spoke an unpreferable word of the English language to convey his anger.
“FUCK” he said.
He jogged his way to the nearest couch in the next-door living room murmuring curses under his breath. The scene was a very hilarious representation of a clown doing a show in a circus especially with the man holding the back of his head to reduce the pains of the headache he received after crashing his skull and with him leaning back and front to reach his destination. As funny as this situation seemed, Wilbur, rather found it frustrating especially when he has been cleaning and cooking all day for his family’s arrival. Finally reaching the living room couch, Wilbur leaned on its back to seat himself. Then he rested his legs on the coffee table, let his head hang in the air behind the sofa, covered his eyes with the inside of his elbow, and let out a sigh of relief. Everything came crashing down on Wilbur after he lost Sally; doing all the house chores and cooking on his own, raising a six-year-old who lost his mother, fighting to find a job after he lost the one before... Everything was going down hell until he received that text from his mother. Wilbur must admit he was pleased to hear his mother informing him that the whole family was going to visit this summer. He knew his mother heard that he got fired from his job recently and guessed that’s why she said they were visiting ( to assist him). Despite him needing the help, Wilbur turned down his mother's offer over and over just because he felt he would be a burden to his parents, and he didn’t want to make things worse for them. However, he was relieved when his mother told him that she wasn’t offering and that was a final decision they made, and he had no saying in that. To be honest with you all… Wilbur even let out a giggle when his mother said they weren’t even visiting for him but rather for Fundy. Even though Wilbur hated being a burden on anyone, especially his family, he appreciated their stubbornness most of the time, especially when he was in desperate need. A few moments went by since the kitchen’s incidents, and the faint rays of the sun have totally disappeared now leaving the street in utter darkness, Wilbur has passed out on the couch ever since and as he was a deep sleeper nothing would manage to wake him up from his heavenly rest except…What was that?
“Dinner…”
Wilbur muttered under his breath
“DINNER?!”
He shouted pushing to his feet and dashing towards the kitchen. In an attempt to do so he pumped his leg to the sharp edges of the coffee table releasing a hiss of pain from his throat, but he had no time for pain, he ought to save tonight’s dinner from its hellish doom ‘burning’ or none of the family would have something to eat this night. By the time Wilbur reached the kitchen, smoke was floating next to the ceiling and the ground making it impossible to view anything. Wilbur rushed through the heavy smoke to close the stove and open the kitchen windows before he becomes a victim of the suffocating smoke. A couple of coughs got to him while doing so but other than that he was completely unharmed however he couldn’t say so about tonight’s dinner. While throwing away the burnt dinner and cleaning the mess in the kitchen, outside the lit house in the cold darkness of the street a hand pushed its way to the doorbell making a ‘beep’ noise that attracted Wilbur’s attention. While drying his wet hands in his almost whitish apron, Wilbur headed towards the house door. After opening the door, it didn’t take Wilbur by surprise to see his family standing outside after all he was expecting their visit. There on the cold cobblestone entrance stood 4 figures… A woman with long black curls dangling off her shoulders, with a black dress and a black veil that was suspended from her large black hat which all looked like they came from the 50s. A man with golden hair stripes tied in a messy short ponytail stood next to her, covered in a black classic suit with a dark green coat on top and an ironic stripped white and green hat. Yup, Wilbur would admit he isn’t so proud of his family’s fashion sense either. To the back of those two stood a 25-year-old man with half of his head shaved leaving half of his short dark pink hair dangled on his forehead. The man's rectangular glasses emitted a particular vibe from his eyes that Wilbur could feel on his skin, although avoiding the weird haircut and creepy appearance the man wore was much the norm these days. After all, he was just wearing a black hood with some pink definitions on the sleeves and some normal black sweatpants. Wilbur wasn’t surprised however knowing his twin brother ‘Technoblade’ was the only family member with enough sanity to dress like normal human beings… well most of the time at least. What took Wilbur by surprise however was his younger brother Tommy who stood next to Technoblade. Usually, Tommy would wear his plain red and white shirt which Wilbur despised so much he tried to burn it one time but that didn’t go as intended since Tommy still saved his beloved iconic shirt. Well after that Wilbur just learnt to live with Tommy’s weird fashion after all most of the time Tommy wore that bloody shirt with some pale brown pants and his faint green bandana on his collar. This time however his brother wore a blue sweater with his name written on it in a funky font ‘Tommy’ and a funky colour for each letter. He finally also got rid of those terrible pants and decided to wear some new pair of jeans that Wilbur couldn’t recognise. Nevertheless, Tommy was wearing a new red and white bandanna that Wilbur guessed added that "Tommy touch" to the fit.
“WILBUR!!”
Exclaimed his mother, Kristin, while pushing him into a hug and surrounding his torso with her delicate arms. She then pushed her body a way to look at his face ensuring to leave her hands on his arms as a reassuring gesture while addressing:
“We missed you, darling”
Wilbur then patted her hands that were resting on his arms saying:
“I missed you too mother… in fact, I missed all of you”
He said while focusing his gaze on the 4 members. With a warm delicate gesture, Wilbur invited them into the house closing the door behind them. The 4 of them started gazing at the house as if it was a museum of some kind. Their confusion and amazement slipped a smirk on Wilbur’s face knowing what one of his siblings was about to say.
“I thought you would be living in a dumpster…”
Technoblade sarcastically spoke as he seated himself on the couch Wilbur was resting on earlier.
“Techno”
His mother called giving Technoblade a sharp look
“What? You can’t but admit you didn’t expect his house to be so clean. After all, that’s Wilbur we are talking about here”
Surprisingly enough that let out giggles from everyone even Wilbur. He must admit his brother’s words were true if you had seen his room when he was still living with his parents, you would have mistaken it for a dumpster for real.
“So…” his father Phil started “ Where is Fundy? He must be starving like we are”
Oh.
Oh.
Dinner… right.
“Well Fundy is safe and sound in his room playing some Minecraft but…”
“But?” Tommy spoke
“But…uh…I…um…”
“But you burned dinner” Techno finished
“Yea…” Wilbur answered
“WIL” everyone sighed, rolling their eyes in disappointment. Even his mother Kristin shook her head while resting her face in her hands.
“I knew something would’ve happened. Everything can’t go perfectly…well…when it is you” Techno said mockingly as if Wilbur needed that right now. He knew his family was starving and so was he in all honesty, but he had nothing to do about what happened earlier, it was all an accident… Afterall.
“Thank god you burned that dinner” Tommy asserted “ I mean imagine eating something Will has cooked”
“I must agree with Tommy at that point. Have you tasted his soup before? Ugh” Techno added.
“ HEY, I make good soup”
“If you say so brother”
After arguing a while with Techno about how he, Will, makes the best soup in the entirety
Of L’manburg, they all agreed to order some pizza.
1 chicken ranch
1 pepperoni
and 1 mixed cheese
it was mostly Tommy’s suggestions that made it on the menu but the whole family was satisfied with their order. While waiting for their food to arrive, Phil and Techno took the family’s luggage into the guest rooms to arrange their clothes and stuff. Tommy went upstairs to play with his nephew to avoid doing any chores or listening to any family boring conversations. Left back in the living room were Wilbur and his mother Kristin talking about job opportunities for Wilbur so he would be able to pay his rent and sustain a good life for Fundy. They also started talking about the bills and taxes Will had to pay once Techno and Phil arrived back in the living room. Tommy had a point in leaving this miserable family and escaping taking his nephew as an excuse. While the four of them (Wilbur, Technoblade, Phil and Kristin) were talking, Wil started to zone out. Such a gathering reminded him of the times he and Sally would be surrounded by bill letters in their old apartment while both of them tried to figure out how to get enough money to pay up or they will end up homeless at some point. Even at their deepest depth of despair, Wil and Sal still managed to keep genuine truthful smiles on their faces. Even back then when they were on the verge of homelessness… Wilbur missed such times with his love. After all, she was the light in his dark and gloomy life… and…and she left him. She promised she would always stay by his side yet… she’s gone… yet he is alone again… empty again. Such thought made Wil tear up a bit amidst their conversation, but nobody noticed as they heard the doorbell ring.
“PIZZA!!”
Shouted Tommy and Fundy as they descended the stairs.
“I will pick up”
Said Phil pushing to his feet and heading towards the door. He then inserted his hand in his left pocket to swap up some money to pay the delivery guy. After receiving the 3 pizza boxes and of course, let’s not forget the cola cans, Phil headed towards the kitchen table to place the food. Not a single soul gave him the chance to put the food though as everyone gathered around the table like they were 5-year-old children. Let’s not forget that even though Wil, Tech and Tom are Phil’s children they are still grown-ass adults, Tommy being the youngest at 18. However, we have to exclude Fundy from the equation sometimes, let’s not forget he is just 6. While their parents (Phil and Kristin) seated themselves the “Children” already started opening the boxes and digging into their first pizza slices. Now, this was a scene to laugh at. Both their parents letting a giggle at their children decided to join the crowd and dig into their first pizza slice.
