Summary:

“How do giraffes exist?”

“How come some trees grow to extraordinary heights and others don’t?”

“Why’re lungs ‘n trees th’ same?”

OR: a tiny string of questions and events

Notes:

Yes, the questions asked are indeed questions I’ve thought of before. Any information that’s said in the following chapters are purely from my google searches, do not use the fic as a reliable information source >:(

I tried to keep the setting and relationship as vague as possible so more people can enjoy it but by chapter 3, my brain plotted out some base details :,)

Chapter 1: あなたとこのままおサラバするより

Chapter Text

“How do giraffes exist?”

It wasn’t really sudden or shocking that such a dumb question drifted and lingered into the air.

Cyno turned to his left, poking at the other persons face. “‘Nari?”

“…”

“I know you’re awake, I have questions that require answers.”

“…Your question already has various answers.”

“But I need your insight, Mister Forest Watcher. You know the secrets of the trees, you speak their language.”

Tighnari sighed and opened one eye to peer at Cynos face before opening the other. Did he really though? Don’t know, the room’s dark and his eyes are blurry with sleep. “The trees don’t start talking unless you’ve consumed and digested an Amanita Muscaria or any mushroom that contains muscimol and ibotenic acid,” he sleepily murmured, before shutting his eyes again.

“I don’t know what either of those things are.”

An exasperated sigh filled the air between them followed by shuffling.

“‘Nariiii, please I need an-swerrrrrs,” the other whined, grabbing at Tighnaris shoulder and violently shaking it. “How do giraffes exist they have no right to have such long neck bones—“

“If tall trees exist then so can giraffes, go back to sleep.”

Cyno ceased the shaking, sputtering, “How do trees correlate with—“

“If you really think about it, tall trees just have long neck bones,” he gently patted the hand on his shoulder. “Just like your beloved giraffes.”

“Holy shit.”

“Ponder about it, I for one am going back to sleep.”

Cyno lied there staring up at the ceiling until morning light spilled through the crack in the curtains and the birds started chirping.
