Chapter Text
“Lan…Lan…!” MegaMan.EXE called out, in an annoyed tone, from his PET to his operator and brother, Lan Hikari. The brunette twin tensed up as he side-eyed his twin with a nervous smile as he didn’t pry his attention from the computer screen.
“Ehehehe…five more minutes?” Lan asked coyly.
“No more bargaining!” Mega Man scolded as he appeared on the computer screen, making Lan cry out in fear. “10:30 was the deal! So, it’s bedtime!”
“But I’m so close to the boss! Just let me finish and then I’ll go! Scout’s honor!” Lan pleaded.
“Does your game have an autosave feature?”
“Well…yes. But..!”
“Problem solved!” MegaMan chirped as he snapped his finger, making the game shut off automatically, much to Lan’s dismay.
“Hey! Jerky jerk, jerk jerk!” The brunette pouted, which his Navi just smirked.
“Love you too, little brother!” The blue bomber giggled. “You’ll thank me when you wake up on time tomorrow!”
“Yeah, yeah.” Lan yawned as he turned his light off. “Good night, Hub.”
“Night, Lan.” MegaMan giggled as he waved at the screen. Lan smiled before letting out a huge yawn and plopping his head on his pillow and turned his back to the PET as he got comfortable. From inside the PET, MegaMan watched as Lan settled in before he heard the all-to-familiar snoring that always serenades his room. The blue bomber just smiled softly as he made the image disappear as the PET’s screen dimmed down. But the Net Navi didn’t take it upon himself to rest himself. He began to leave his PET terminal before being stopped by a few Progs and tamed viruses. He placed his fingers to his lips to shush them.
“I’ll be back before the sun rises. Keep an eye out for me.” He said softly as he rubbed their head before taking off. The small, blue Net Navi walked up and entered the access link to take him to Net City. In a flurry of light blue particles, MegaMan arrived at Net City. The cybernetic metropolis is still lively due to the fact that people and Navis do most of their Internet prowling at night. The sheer size and traffic of this area could be a little overwhelming to newcomers but there’s always friendly Progs and Navis to help them out. Mega Man made his way through the city, giving small notices to some shops as well as news that were being displayed around the world.
After a few minutes, the blue bomber reached the outskirts of the city, away from the hustle and bustle. He sat on the grassy terrain as he looked up at the sky; clear as crystal and the stars acting as its decoration. MegaMan tapped on his helmet’s emblem, making it disappear and revealing his hair before laying down.
“Cassiopeia…Andromeda…Cepheus…Draco…Aries…Hydra.” Mega Man called out as he pointed at the sky and traced the constellations with his finger. “Ah! There’s Gemini!” He giggled and closed his eyes as felt the simulated breeze gently flowing through the area. It stayed like this for an hour before MegaMan felt a powerful energy near. “Huh?” A harsher wind blew, causing the blue bomber to shield himself from the bluster and flying leaf blades. The wind stopped, which was a signal for MegaMan to bring his arms down. His emerald eyes looked around and saw nothing out of the ordinary.
“What was that about—”
“You’re out quite late, aren’t you?” A quiet and low voice asked, scaring Mega Man to point his buster behind them. The next image he saw was Bass.EXE, staring at him with an unphased look.
“Bass! You scared me!” Mega Man sighed as he made his buster disappear. “You didn’t have to sneak up, it’s just us two.”
“I prefer to not be noticed, even in open and empty areas.” Bass huffed.
“A-ah. Keep forgetting that.” MegaMan nervously laughed as he sat back down on the ground.
“This may sound…off, but I’ve sensed you coming to this area every so often.” Bass said as he shifted his eyes to the side. “Care to explain?”
MegaMan blinked before sheepishly laughing while blushing, which made Bass cock his eyebrows. The blue bomber looked up at sky before giving his rival his answer.
“Sometimes it’s a little boring at my terminal and Net City is nice, but I prefer to come out here to look at the stars. Something a little more…natural.”
“Even though the sky’s weather is projected with satellites and forecast readings?” Bass huffed.
“Tomato, tomahto. It’s the closest thing to the real thing.” Mega Man said with puffed cheeks. Bass just shook his head as began sitting next to him and looked up at the sky as well. “It’s also..” Mega Man started to speak again. “Also soothing and therapeutic in a way, too.”
“...How?” Bass asked.
“Hmmm, let’s see…” The blue bomber said with his hand on his cheek. “The moon always gives off a cool yet soothing light and the stars twinkling and glittering across the sky…! I think I’m grateful to experience it every chance I get. The sight also melts away the bad times of me and Lan from my mind, whether it’s momentarily or a long time.”
“Hmph, letting the bad time disappear for a while, huh?” Bass said as he looked down and closed his eyes, which grabbed Mega Man’s attention. “Maybe there is some truth to those words.” The rogue Navi opened his eyes when he felt MegaMan placed his hand on his. He looked at the Blue Bomber, who had a concerned expression on his face. Bass blinked and then looked away from the small Net Navi. “I’m fine. Don’t make such a somber expression.”
“But…!” MegaMan was interrupted when he and Bass noticed shooting stars blazing across the skies. His green eyes lit up with wonder as the stars continued to fall, which sparked an idea to lighten the mood. “Hey, I got an idea! Let’s make a wish!”
“Huh?” Bass questioned.
“Come on, it’ll be fun! Humans do it every chance they get!”
“I detest human traditions. You should know—”
“Please? Just this once! I won’t even ask what you wish for!” MegaMan pleaded which caused the lone Navi to just roll his eyes and cave in.
“Fine…” Bass groaned, which Mega Man gave a small cheer. The Blue Bomber clapped his hand twice before bowing his head and closed his eyes. Bass watched brought his hands up to perform the same action but disregarded it and just closed his and slightly bowed his head down. After a few moments, he reopened his eyes and turned towards Mega Man who began to open his green eyes. “So, it’s safe to assume you’re not going to elaborate your wish?”
Mega Man’s head shot up with a blush, which surprised Bass. “N-no! Don’t you know if you say it outloud it won’t come true! I’m not taking any chances!” The blue bomber protested.
“You can’t be serious.” Bass huffed with an unamused expression.
“Very serious! Lan’s quite the example because he doesn’t get half the things he asks for!”
“Such cantankerous steps for a wish bargaining ritual. Then again, I’m speaking with a Navi who is scared of the paranormal.” Bass huffed which caused the Blue Bomber to tense in fear.
“G-Ghosts don’t exist! It’s only the fear of the unknown, that’s all!” Mega Man rebutted with some fear in his tone.
“Really, now?” Bass said in an unconvincing tone.
“No more talk about ghosts! Just look at the pretty stars!” The Blue Bomber said as he looked away with his cheeks puffed. Bass just shook his head, followed by a dry chuckle as he turned his attention back to sky but not before softly grabbing Mega Man’s hand under his cloak. The Blue Bomber looked at his rival who’s gaze was still at the sky. He just gave a soft smile as he faced the same direction and grabbed Bass’ hand as well.
“Whatever you wished for Bass, I hope it does come true. You deserve it.” Mega Man thought blissfully.
