Work Text:
Cale had never learned how to say "I love you" in words unless it was a no-win situation, but that didn't stop him from learning other ways to express it.
For example, he had never told his children in words how much he loved them but had tried to let them know with all kinds of actions and care, from making sure they had their favorite foods, were warm and participating in all the games they wanted.
Sometimes he also personally took care of each of their wishes separately, like ordering tons of Hong's favorite tea, thinking of stories to tell Raon, or, like today, devoting as much care as possible to On's hairstyle.
On for her part wasn't very demanding but she wasn't afraid to verbalize what she wanted either and that made the Henituse very happy, and even when she asked for things the nobleman didn't consider appropriate she would be equally happy with a second or third choice.
(Perhaps because she knew her father always tried to give them everything they wanted.)
Cale knew a few things about dealing with girls and women from his long time as a team leader and member of society in general, but it wasn't until a few weeks later that he tried to really get into everything related to the matter so he could properly take care of his daughter (daughters if he counted the others, and sisters too), one of those things was hair. He himself had a great appreciation for appearance and his hair so it came in handy as well.
However, taking care of his hair was not the same as taking care of his daughter's, hers had much more volume and tended to tangle easily although spending most of her time in her cat form this was hardly noticeable. That didn't mean he didn't take care of it, spending as much time as he could untangling it as gently as the knots would allow.
On bad days it would take at least three hours, where On would tell him about all the things she had been learning and he would in return give her advice or answer as many questions as he could, congratulating her on her efforts and accomplishments. On good days, like today, it only took about an hour and always ended with him carrying her in his trembling arms to the kitchen for a quick dessert.
