Work Text:
Behind the layer of dark clouds, glimpse of orange, red, violet, and yellow blending into a majestic mix of colors of a sunset is peeking out. A ray of hope amidst the bleak disaster falling onto Liyue.
Fulfilling part of the "contract" with the Wangsheng consultant, Xiangling and Xingqiu arrive in time at Liyue Harbor as the sun starts to set down.
They already part ways with Mr. Zhongli before entering the city gate as the man has to help prepare another burial and cremation process next early morning for the victims, which consisted of the zombified corpses they fought before, too, leaving the two teenagers among the crowd of people packing and going back to their home and homestay.
"What are we going to say to Chongyun's parents?" Xiangling mumbles.
Xingqiu exhales soundlessly from the question. "Alas we have no choice but tell the truth, Xiangling."
"I'm afraid they will be mad to us."
"Why would they be?" Xingqiu replies in disbelief. "Instead they would be grateful because of our action, when no one else would dare to done. Please don't overthink too much, Xiangling."
"Sorry."
"That's fine. I know well this recent situation is quite stressing and we are prone to be sceptical or depressed, but believe me, there will always be good things around and in the end," Xingqiu puts his hand on her shoulder. "Take enough rest after this. Eat well. Talk to Guoba or your father if the unwell feelings are still present. Don't dwell or hold it too long."
"Thanks, Xingqiu."
"My pleasure."
Xiangling rubs Guoba's head, while the red panda shortly after hugs her legs, trying to cheer her. "I wonder how he's doing right now."
"I only wished he could survive out there, defying my worst assumption," Xingqiu folds his arms in front of his chest.
"There is always tomorrow. And there is always a happy ending after a tragedy."
"Uhum."
If only they know the truth.
That their friend now is helpless in the possession of the very ancient demon who wrecked havoc in Liyue.
What would they do?
