Steve has totally been corrupted by the party, there is no way with how much he cares about Dustin and the rest of the party that he doesn't know what D&D is called, he will always pay attention to each member (kids & adults) and what they like, so steve being a secret slight nerd definitely works, the way the aithor used Lord of the Rings references was the most appreciated way to do it
