Work Text:
Izuku was hunched over his laptop, technically he was studying but he was more trying to avoid thinking about the USJ incident. Hence why he pulled up his favorite practice test for UA.
Its question bank was the largest Izuku has dealt with; he doesn't know if he had ever had a repeat question once since he found it when he was ten.
One day he was going to get a 100%.
That day was not today, 81%. Better than his first try of the night at 75%.
Sighing he decided to take a break, his phone had been buzzing on and off for a while.
Reaching over he grabbed his phone, it lit up as he grabbed it. Ah, the class discord was active. Putting his phone back down and readjusting.
Minimizing the test page, he pulled up discord on his computer.

Kaminari:
basically, pre-quirk media is better
Yaoyorozu:
That was a very sound and well-thought-out argument, perhaps we should make a recommendation channel so we may all share our favorite pieces of media.
Kaminari:
Oh yo! tha t cool, I have a few EngliSh movies from pre-quirk I think you would like Yaoyorozu.

Oh Midoriya was excited to check out Kaminari’s recommendations, he loved pre-quirk media.
Maybe he would send some of his favourites.

Iida:
My brother likes to meme and never explain when I ask which I find very annoying. What does it even mean when something is Base?
Todoroki:
My brother does the same, I still don’t know what it means when someone ‘has to do it to them?

Izuku was not meme literate or confident enough to jump into that conversation.

Ashido:
I thought I would never say this but I kind of wish I had some homework to do.
Sero:
I know what you mean, i even finished that essay Mic-sensei gave us.
Ashido:
Same! I am caught up on all my shows and scrolling social media is a big No. Just I need something to do.
-
Izuku smiled that he could help. Switch quickly to windows and he copied the link.

Midoriya:
If you want something to keep busy
http://www.UA-Entrance-exam/heropractice/NovemeberEchoZuluUniform/
It is pretty intensive but can be a fun kind of rewarding. I have been doing this practice for a few years now. It breaks down where you need to work and what your strengths are.
Ashido:
I have nothing else to do and nothing to lose.
Yaoyorozu:
Oh, I don’t think I have seen that practice test before. I am also going to attempt it.
Iida:
I will as well.
Sero:
Plus Ultra I guess.
-
Izuku watched as some reactions showed up on his post and some more replies from more of his classmates as they decided to attempt the test. Even Kacchan.
They all need distraction after today he guessed.
Izuku was glad he could help, he decided he wanted to go through his latest results, see where he improved and where he needed to improve more.
Falling into focus on that for the next hour.
He was dragged out adjusting his study plan by notification pinging.
Switching back to discord.

Bakugou:
This test is such bullshit. I am redoing this test until I fucking beat it.
Kaminari:
I got 70% as well apparently my English and German are university level. I need to improve on my math though :( they are also linked to ADHD and something called dyscalculia.
-
Slowly everyone came back from the practice exam.
Most got between 60-70 which Izuku wasn’t surprised by, his first try was 40% when he was 10 and that is how he found resources to cope with his anxiety and PTSD.
Not everyone shared what their psychology profile told them which Izuku thought was fair.
Sero was the closest person to reach Izuku’s last score at 79% which was so cool. Sero tried to minimize the accomplishment.
-
Midoriya:
Sero that's a very good mark. :D I got 81% on my third try tonight but I’ve been taking this test since I was like 10, so even if the questions don’t repeat I know how they are phrased. From what I can tell the questions are phased to trip people up and make them think, not just memorize.
-
The conversation changed to talking about study plans, and how to get a better mark on the exam.
Izuku smiled. It was another reason he liked this exam, it made you want to do better and gave you the tools to do so.
Izuku wondered who created it.
Izuku got distracted from the discord as he drove into finding out who made the exam.
-
Izuku will admit that when he walked into class he was running on 4hours of sleep in 48hrs. It took time to find his answer, but he did it, then it raised more questions that needed to be answered.
He walked into class dazed, clutching his thermos.
Izuku dropped into his seat. He cracked open a thermos of coffee and pulled out some caffeine packets, pouring them in. Then with not a care of who saw, he slammed the entire thermos like he was a man dying of thirst.
“Midoriya, those were 400mg caffeine packets.” came the horrified voice of Sero.
Izuku slowly blinked over to Sero who was holding the caffeine packets, “God is too scared to kill me.”
“I am not touching that with a 10-foot pole, if you feel like you are about to have a heart attack tell someone,” Aizawa-sensei interrupted, spooking most of the class.
Izuku nodded, “Okay sensei.”
“The U.A Sports Festival is drawing near,” Aizawa-sensei announces.
Izuku slowly blinks at his teacher. His guess had been right.
Kirishima seems happy about it, but Jiro and Oijiro make a point about the danger of them attacking again, but there is more than that.
Izuku raises his hand even while Aizawa-sensei is still talking about why. He blames his boldness on his lack of sleep and the high amount of caffeine currently hitting his system. He had planned to go to the principal's office during lunch but now as a good time as any.
“Yes, Midoriya.”
Turning his head to look to the top right corner of the room's camera. He opens his notebook, Izuku had prepared for this.
“Principal Nezu,” He addresses the camera, waiting until he sees the light flicker, “Your personal test, affectionately called the Hell Test, was something you devised to look for a student’s potential similar to Aizawa-sensei’s quirk assessment test. Every UA student has to take the exam at least once in their three years here." Izuku realizes he dropped to a mutter, and speaks up, "with over 60% or retake it until they do. Every UA teacher has to take the exam upon being hired and must pass with 80% or more. The lowest scoring pro hero was Endeavor who attempted to apply for a position to work here, his score was 45%." Izuku heard a sound like a someone hitting his desk, "Eraserhead and Snipe both regularly retake the test, currently, Eraserhead is in the lead at 96%," Izuku takes a deep breath trying to calm his pace, "However, Present Mic had the highest first try at 17 years old at 85%, and his UA Teacher score was 98%. Most people's first attempt of your Hell Test is between 30-50% as you test university and master level material as well as weave a psychological assessment throughout it.”
Izuku was sure some of his classmates were putting the pieces together. He continued though, “Now part of the reason I theorize you want to continue with our first-year portion of the festival is in order to study our psychological profiles after the attack as well as not penalize the other classes. However, if you look at the Hell Test you posted under the guise of a practice test.”
He heard the wave of sharp intakes as his classmates caught on. “You will see that every member of Class A has taken your test. If you look for ID: 6r33N, you will see I have been taking this test regularly since I was ten," Izuku gesturing from himself to his classmates, "Principal, you have the psych profiles you need from Class A, therefore the festival would not be needed for that." Izuku rapidly tapping his figures on to his desk, as he felt as the words built on, "It would only show our quirks in a setting that can be recorded and studied. Making it far easier for villains to understand the weaknesses and drawbacks of our quirks opening it up to be used against us. Seeing as they had no problem attacking us before, now that we have proved we will fight back it will likely encourage them to focus on us on top of their mission with All-Might. To allow Class A to be in the festival would be a foolish act of giving the enemy information."
Izuku pauses and thinks about changing his finishing thought but decided that he already here.
Snapping his notebook closed he stared down the camera, "and you are not a foolish person, Principal."
Izuku could appreciate the silence, and the light of the camera going out.
