Chapter Text
A loud crash struck through the night of silence, followed by laughter. Under the dim street light ran past a cat, then a dog.
“I’m gonna get you Catra!”
“Can’t catch me when you’re that slow, Adora!”, a light tease to the Cat’s voice.
Catra turned a corner, leading into an alleyway, and Adora, much less gracefully, skidded to a stop to turn. Catra jumped over the fence that closed off the alleyway, leading into another dimly lit street. Her brown, mottled coat a deep contrast to the street lamp. A loud bang reverberated from the fence, and Adora could be seen hanging on the edge, the sound of her hind limbs scratching against the wood trying to give her leverage. Adora stared down at Catra, and Catra stared right back.
"Hey Adora”, Her tail flicking back and forth.
“Catra, when I get down from here, I am so gonna bite you!”, with that smile though, and Adora’s giant body sinking into the wooden boundary, Catra couldn’t help but laugh at Adora’s empty threat. And so, she bounded off, her laugh echoing through the night.
Adora’s body was beginning to slip, and her paws couldn’t find grip anymore, so, gravity dragged her down. “Ugh, Catra.” Adora rolled her eyes as she stood and walked around to the other side of the alley fence, where Catra had been just moments ago.
While she was faster than Catra, she was nowhere near as agile, strength was more her forte, and Catra used this to her advantage as much as possible, always climbing and jumping over things just to watch Adora struggle. One time it resulted in Adora landing in a puddle, that was not fun. It was too cold outside already, and then she was wet and smelly, her golden yellow fur turned muddy brown. Looks like this time, Catra had once again made a fool of Adora, but this time, Adora wouldn’t let her get away with it.
Turning her noise to the ground, Adora took in one big whiff. Catra may have agility, But Adora had an amazing sense of smell, and no matter where Catra hid, Adora would find her with this superpower. As the smell began to sink in, Adora closed her eyes, pitch black developing into clouds of different colours. When she opened her eyes, there was Catra’s smell, the tiny puffs of red that dragged down the road.
Immediately, Adora leapt into action, galloping to where the red led her, hindlimbs following forelimbs, the sound of her claws against the concrete. The red went over fences, roofs and trees, but they followed the road never the less, and so did Adora.
Soon, she arrived at the trash yard, objects splayed everywhere, and mountains of trash reaching to the sky. It was a bit harder to make out Catra’s scent amidst all these different smells, but with extreme concentration and another deep sniff, Adora pinpointed exactly where Catra was, and Adora creeped behind one of the trash piles just behind her. Adora stalked just out of Catra's view, carefully, trying her best to make absolutely no sound. Avoiding all the objects.
Catra was laying just a few meters in front, staring towards the entrance where she thought Adora would be arriving from. Her tail waving from impatience, and her ears faced forwards. One of them twitched, halting Adora in her tracks. She continued stalking moments after though, hunching her back and ducking her head, just a few more steps.
Adora pounced and tackled Catra, who let out a shriek. Adora placed her paw on Catra's chest to keep her in place, Catra wouldn't get away that easily! Adora bent down to Catra’s level, who laid on the ground in defeat. “Ha! I caught ya!”, Adora’s tail wagging enthusiastically.
Catra would not stay still in defeat however, and instead clasped Adora’s paw with her front claws, and kicked at it until Adora let go, Adora releasing a surprised yelp. Then, she quickly jumped on Adora’s back, and clawed at that too.
The two of them continued to play fight for who knows how long, when one finally had the jump on the other the roles would reverse. Adora’s strength vs Catra’s agility, evenly matched. By the time they were finished, both were worn out and tired.
Panting, Adora collapsed on the ground in a comedic fashion, and Catra laid down next to her, both ready for the day to end, and the new day to start. Adora closed her eyes, thankful that, as always, it was her and Catra, against the world.
