Chapter Text

"Yeah right, we all know you hate me, it's painfully obvious Dream." The god of negativity sneered. Dream sighed and rubbed his temple. The two were standing at the fallen tree of feelings. Both had mistakenly showed up at the same time to mourn what they had lost, which resulted in an argument of course.

"I don't hate you," he stated. "It's just so hard to act nice to you when all you do is act so condescending and with your head up your ass!" Dream crossed his arms. "And it just pisses me off. What do you expect me to do, be nice? No."

"Says the one working with a literal ticking bomb. How can someone trust that excuse of a god?" Mare huffed, he was talking about Ink. "I have reason for how I act the way I do, so do you but not so much."

"I have my reasons for teaming with him." Dream replied as he turned his head to the side, avoiding eye contact.

"Oh do you now," The negative one cocked his head to the side, raising an eyebrow. "Then how come you've wrapped an innocent monster in whatever you're doing, hm?"

"What're you talking about?" Dream looked over at his brother but kept his head turned away. Nervousness creeping up on him.

Mare rolled his eye.

"You know exactly what I'm talking about 'brother', you know his AU wasn't even supposed to know about the multiverse." The god kept his voice stern.

"Leave Blue out of this." The other had now fully turned away from the other. Deep down Dream knew Mare was right, however he would never admit that.

"That is what you should have done. I see no good reason why you had to have him join your team." Mare stepped closer to Dream, just a few feet behind him.

"Since when do you care about good things, brother?" The positive one mumbled just loud enough for the other to hear.

"How bad do you really think I am?" Mare was disappointed by his brother's words but acted no different than before, keeping his stern tone. Dream noticed but didn't say anything.

"Guess that explains it." Mare sighed, stepping closer to his brother, leaning down so his head is next to his ear from behind. "Watch yourself brother… one of these days you'll get what's coming to you."

Dream quickly turned around and summoned his staff, staring at Mare.

"Farewell brother." Mare said right before he made a portal back to his castle, falling through it.

Once Mare arrived at the castle he closed the portal then practically collapsed on the bed. He hated thinking about the past. He even hated thinking in general sometimes.

After a moment there was a knock on the door.

"What could possibly be so important right now?" The god asked, annoyed as he just wanted some peace and quiet.

"Boss it's me, I need to talk with you." The monster at the other door replied, seeming anxious. That's when Mare noticed a new presence he didn't recognize in his castle.

He begrudgingly stood up and made his way to the door, opening it to be greeted by Cross.

"What?" The taller grumbled as Cross fidgeted with his sleeve.

"Blue is here, he says he wants to talk with you but uh… me and the team were suspicious so we threw him in one of the cells." He started, scratching the back of his neck. "I hope that's ok."

"Yes that's fine, Cross." Mare sighed. "I'll go deal with him, go back to whatever you were doing."

The monochrome skeleton nodded, scurrying away. After Cross was out of sight he stood there for a moment, wondering why Blue may want to speak with him.

Despite the ability to teleport, Mare decided to walk to the cells because he hates himself
