Don't Change For Me

Summary:

"I fell in love with who you are right now. Why do you think I would wanna change you?"

Old habits die hard and so does old trauma. When Suna finally learns of yours, he's quick to reassure that you are perfect, just the way you are.

Work Text:

The women's volleyball finals started tonight and you were piled into the living room with your boyfriend Suna and his friends Osamu, Atsumu, Aran, and Kita. The match was about to start, the teams warming up on the court. You stepped away to use the bathroom, wanting to get back before the first serve.

"Number 6 is so fine.", you heard Atsumu say as you stepped out of the bathroom.

"She really is, but not as fine as number 3. She's stacked front to back.", replied Aran.

"Damn she really is.", replied Osamu.

"Number 7 is beautiful.", replied Kita.

"In the face, sure, but she has the body of a teenage boy.", Suna commented.

"I have more butt than she does.", said Osamu.

"Which is sad.", replied Aran.

"But I agree, she does have a beautiful face. There isn't an ugly girl on the team.", said Atsumu.

"Not a single one.", said Aran.

"Some are just more blessed that others.", chuckled Osamu.

"Way more blessed than others.", said Atsumu.

"Nothing should be flat, except the waist. Everything else should have a little jiggle to it.", chuckled Suna.

"That booty should have a lot of jiggle to it.", replied Aran, all the boys nodding and laughing in agreement.

You stepped out of the hallway into your bedroom, closing the door behind you. You stood in front of the full length mirror, your eyes searching your body head to toe. Your hands reached up, adjusting your hair, then moving to your clothes, tugging and smoothing them against your body. You frowned. You looked nothing like those girls with their lean, athletic bodies. You weren't too overweight, just a little chubby, and could stand to lose some pounds. When your last relationship ended you were happy and started eating more than you used to. It wasn't a bad thing, and when you started dating Suna a couple of months ago, you didn't think anything of your extra pounds, but now you realize you were wrong. You weren't sure why he hadn't said anything yet, but you needed to lose the weight before it became a problem. You really care about him and don't want to lose him. You continue to examine yourself, pinching any extra fat on your face, arms, and thighs. You were good with your butt, even though it could be a little smaller too. You lifted your shirt exposing your stomach, pinching with both hands, a sad frown on your face. You quickly pulled your shirt down, smoothing it as you heard the door open. You took a deep breath, forcing a fake smile onto your face as Suna wrapped his arms around you.

"What are you doing?", he sweetly whispered in your ear, his smile pressed against it.

"Nothing. What are you doing?", you asked, matching his tone, you smiling at each other in the mirror.

"Coming to find you. You disappeared on us."

"Sorry. I stepped in here for something and lost track of time."

"It's okay. Come on.", he replied, placing a quick kiss on your cheek and pulling you along with him.

You sat with them watching the game, trying to enjoy it, but all you could focus on were the bodies on the screen, and how they looked so much better than yours. How Suna would probably prefer to have someone that looked like them sitting next to him instead of you. That thought almost broke you, but you were used to pushing through and hiding your feelings, so you sat and smiled that convincing fake smile, not wanting to ruin the fun.

It was date night and once again you were standing in front of the mirror, wearing the fifth outfit you had tried on, worried he wouldn't like it. You've worn those clothes plenty of times but that doesn't mean he'll like them this time. You took a deep breath, deciding to wear it, having kept Suna waiting for quite a while. Suna looked up and smiled at you as you walked into the living room. He stood, walking over to you, a flirty smirk on his face.

"Took you long enough.", he said playfully, pecking your lips.

"Is my outfit okay? I can pick another one if you don’t like it.", you asked, smoothing it again.

"Yeah you look great Baby. You don't have to change for me."

"What about my hair? Is it okay, or do I need to change it?", you asked worriedly, looking up into his eyes.

"No. There's nothing wrong with it.", he chuckled. "You always ask me these questions and you always look great."

"Okay, thanks.", you replied, giving him a small smile.

He lightly shook his head, grabbing your hand and heading out. During dinner you didn't eat much, saying you weren't as hungry as you thought. By the time you made it back home your stomach was angrily growling, loud enough to get Suna's attention.

"I thought you said you weren't hungry.", he lightly chuckled.

"I'm not.", you softly replied, not meeting his gaze.

"That's not what your stomach just said. Sounds hungry to me. I can fix you something real quick."

"No. I'm good.", you replied giving your best fake smile.

"Baby, you barely ate anything at dinner, and you didn't eat breakfast.", he replied, his expression etched with concerned.

"It's not a big deal Babe. Really. I need to lose some weight anyway.", you reply, giving a soft smile. He frowned.

"Nothing should be flat except the waist, right? Gotta get rid this tummy.", you said, patting your stomach. His frown deepened, eyebrows furrowing, confusion and pain on his face. You quickly turned walking to the bedroom, Suna not far behind.

"What did you say?", he asked as he stepped into the room.

"I need to lose my tummy.", you replied, not turning to meet his gaze.

"Before that. What did you say before that?"

"Nothing should be flat except the waist.", you slowly replied.

He stepped in front of you.

"Look at me.", he said, his tone distressed.

You lifted your gaze to his, your expression soft.

"Are you trying to lose weight because of what I said?", he asked worriedly.

You looked away.

"Baby. Look at me.", he said softly, turning your gaze back to him with his finger. "I don't think you need to lose weight. What I said was stupid. I love your body just the way it is." He brushed your cheek with his thumb.

"Suna, it's okay. My feelings aren't hurt. I represent you, and I have to look my best for you. I'll lose the weight. I promise.", you replied, forcing a sweet smile.

"What?", he asked confused, his hand falling away from your face. "What do you mean, you represent me? You represent you. You're you, without me. Why would you say that?"

Suna was confused and frustrated with himself. He didn't realize you heard his comment, but even so, he wasn't thinking that way about you. He thought you were beautiful and wouldn't change a thing.

"My um…my ex always said that. He always made comments about how I looked, saying I represented him and needed to look good. He would always say I needed to lose weight, or he didn't like what I was wearing, or how I styled my hair. Always made me change it until he was satisfied before he would go anywhere with me. I used to be smaller, but when we broke up I worried less about all that stuff. I didn't think about it when we started dating and I'm sorry. But I can change. I promise I can."

You wiped away the tears that hit your cheeks, you being unable to fake it any longer, the pain of your past suffocating you. You hated everything that just came out of your mouth. How desperate and pathetic it sounded. You gladly left your last relationship because you knew you deserved to be treated better, but here you were again, doing anything to make someone else happy so that you wouldn't lose them.

Suna reached out, quickly lifting your shirt over your head.

"What are you doing?", you asked confused, but he didn’t respond, his expression sad.

He unbuttoned your jeans, sliding them down your legs, getting on his knees as he slid them from around your ankles. He pressed his face into your stomach, planting a deep kiss onto it, before looking up at you with glossy eyes.

"You're perfect.", he intensely whispered.

You looked away, trying to calm yourself as the tears continued to hit your cheeks. He stood, cupping your face with his hands, bringing your gaze to meet his.

"You're perfect Baby. Inside, and out. You don't…you don't have to change anything for me. Just be yourself. Dress how you want. Look how you want. Eat what you want. Lose weight, gain weight, I don't care. I love you…and I'll love you no matter what you look like. Please…just be yourself. I fell in love with who you are right now. Why do you think I would wanna change you?"

You briefly closed your eyes, as his thumbs gently wiped away your tears. He was being so soft with you, his eyes staring deeply into yours.

" I love you too.", you softly replied. "I'm sorry I let my past make me act that way. I just don't want to lose you, but I know that's not the right way to do things. I was just worried and scared."

"Baby you're not gonna lose me. You have nothing to be worried or scared about. I promise. And I need you to make me a promise."

"What?"

"Never change for me, or anyone else. Be yourself, and if you want to change for yourself, then cool, but not for anyone else. Promise?"

"I promise.", you replied softly, smiling sweetly at him.

He leaned down, capturing your lips in a passionate kiss. He grabbed his hoodie from the back of the chair, sliding it over your head and down your body. He took you by the hand, leading you out of the bedroom.

"Where are we going?"

"To feed you, before your stomach attacks us both.", he chuckled, smiling softly at you.

He walked you to the kitchen, sitting you on the counter, quickly preparing your meal. You smiled at each other, him occasionally pecking your lips as he cooked. He watched, making sure you ate it all, kissing your food filled cheeks. Once finished you cuddled together, his hand under the hoodie, fingers caressing and sinking deeply into the soft flesh of your stomach.
