Chapter Text
Rory didn't know what to think.
Here she was in a restaurant, half way between her ex-boyfriend and her current one. One of them was leaving after giving her a wake-up call and the other was chugging down more alcohol, per usual. She started questioning her life decisions, living Yale, not talking to her mother, her living situation, Logan. It was all insane.
She wasn't the girl she used to be. Not in a good way.
All the words Jess had said were running through her brain, the entire night, the time apart from mom, all of it. Then something started coming to the surface, months of unspoken feelings, fear, rejection. It started to flood her brain and then she was back at the table, looking at Logan.
"He's gone?" Logan asks
"Yes, he's gone."
"Writers are so sensitive." he says. This was the moment she started to get pissed. She couldn't believe that he was ignoring his behaviour and then blaming it on Jess. Jess did something, everybody in the world was doing something, but what was she? What has she been doing? Getting drunk at parties with her guy and getting arrested. She kept thinking how her younger self probably never would've thought that would happend to her. HER, of all people. The golden girl, how could it? Her rambling left her brain and started coming out her mouth for Logan to hear.
"And wasting my time partying and drinking, just hanging out, doing nothing."
"Whoa, whoa. Don't pull me into this. Don't make me feel guily for your drinking- that's your choice. I'm not forcing you, when I ask you out, you can say no."
Could she really? Logan never made her do anything, but subconsciously, he kinda did. Rory had changed herself to be with him, changed how she behaved, what she did. Some of it was good change, opening herself to newer possibilities, but others, well... They helped you have a record with the police.
The fight started to escalate. Veins on his throat started to show, she's never seen him this angry.
"Let's go"
"I don't wanna go"
"I drove you here and I wanna go" he says. There it was: the orders, the difference on the power structure of their relationship. If Logan wanted something, he would get it.
" I don' t wanna go." She wanted to stay. This was Rory finally stooding her ground, even with something that seemed tiny, but made a difference in their relationship.
He left and she stayed with enough money for a cab and more food.
Where to go now?
Rory had a plan.
She found a way to be stable again that included Yale, a place to live and a job.
She went to Lane's and after a while got a job, not something big, but it was a good start. Now it was part two: the Lorelai incident. She had a list of things to apologize, knew she could just go to her mom and she would let her stay there, but this was her redemption moment, she couldn't behave badly and then run to mommy and beg for forgiveness. She had to earn it, be independent.
After a really long time, Rory was getting near her home, saw her mom at the door and then nothing. It was such a moment of rush, nostalgia and tears.
After all the snot was cleaned from their shirts, Lorelai and Rory were settled in her mom's bed.
"Wow, the house is better and I love your private big bathroom, I might use it" Rory says
"Ha ha. This is mine, darling. My dream bathroom. You ain't getting anywhere near" Lorelai responds
"I'm just going to use the left sink"
" No, I use that sink"
"Then I'll use the right one."
"I use that also"
"How could you use two sinks at the same time?" Rory asks
"I do my makeup in one and then I brush my teeth in the other"
"Find another mirror to do your makeup on and I'll use that sink"
"No. I like that mirror" Lorelai says
"But you have other mirrors, like downstairs. But there's just this sink for me to brush my teeth"
"So? Why do I have to move? There's a sink in the bathroom downstairs, use that one."
"No. It's too far and the mirror is tiny."
"You don't need a mirror to brush your teeth"
"And you don' t need a sink to do your makeup"
Before the argument started to get heated, Luke gets in the house with food, Lorelai had gone there earlier and told him to get as much food as possible for girls night. While she started informing him, yelling from the top floor to the kitchen, on certain details of the night, Rory slowly made her way to the right sink.
"I brought fries, burgers and doughnuts" Luke says
"What about a large pizza?" Lorelai asks
"I don' t sell pizza"
" So couldn't you have bought some?"
"There's enough food here for eight people, which is good enough to keep you two fed for the night"
"Tonight's a girls night, it must have pizza" Lorelai yells from the room. "Why don't you go to Al's and grab more food?"
"Can you bring us some marshmallows, chocolate and ice cream with cherries on top too?" Rory yells from the bathroom
"Oh yes, bring me some 'Cricket Lollipops', ice cream with gummy bears and whipped cream, a pretzel and chips" Lorelai compliments
"How are the two of you not dead from high levels of crap on your sistem?" Both Lorelai and Rory shrug "Also, really, 'Cricket Lollipops', what is that?" Luke asks
"Some candy Al sells" Rory explains
"Rory and I have a tradition of eating candies with weird name on girls night" Lorelai says
"You want me to spend money on disgusting fast food from the pit that is called Al's Pancake World, when you can have mine for free?" Luke asks
"YES!" both Rory and Lorelai yell. "And don't forget the pizza" Lorelai reminds him.
Luke leaves huffing. Lorelai makes her way to her bathroom and catches Rory about to use her right sink.
"Hey! That's my sink" Lorelai says. Rory flinches
"C'mon. You don't use it, just the mirror" Rory complains
"Doesn't matter, it's the principle of the thing. Living with Emily and Richard made you forget my rules". At that Rory gets a sad face, remembering her mother's face through the window the night when she moved out to the pool house. That moment was a big crack on their relationship.
"Mom... I- I'm sorry. I never wanted to hurt you. I just.. I didn't know in what to believe anymore." Flashbacks of her conversation with Mitchum and the things he said to her, a great secretary, not a journalist. Hearing from one of the top notch journalist with an empire of paper and years of experience that you don't have it, it broke her self confidence. It sent her into a spiral. "I knew my entire life what I wanted and then I started questioning if that was what I really wanted, if that's what I was supposed to do." She looked and saw her mother's face, focused, open, willing to understand. "I've always known where I was going and now.. I-I-... I don't know what's out there." she says with a sob.
"It's a fog" Lorelai says.
"A ton of fog.. I hate not knowing what's out there". Rory always adored learning, knowing what's out there. She made schedules, agendas, prepared herself the best she could, but if she doesn't know what could happend, how can she prepare herself for the worst or the best?
"That's a part of growing up. You don't know what can happen, it's a blank page on a big book. It's scary, yes, but also exciting." Lorelai says and Rory looks at her mother curiously. "You know what you do with a blank page? You write. Write your life, live, grab that pen, don't let anyone write it for you and only stop it when you're dead"
Lorelai knew the feeling of unpredictability, felt it when she left at seventeen and had to build two lifes. Seeing her daughter distraught over it hurted her, but made her understand her choiches better. She hugged her daughter and made their way to the living room.
"Anyway, let's have our night together, it's been way too long and I've had no one to make fun of Twilight with" Lorelai says when she drops on the couch.
"You had Luke" Rory commented
"Ha, Luke doesn't know how to mock like us"
"Oh Jacob, you're making me blush" Rory mocks
"Ew Jacob, really? The 'I made your baby daughter part of my wolf cult' Jacob?" Lorelai says with disgust
"He knows that he's hotter than Edward." Rory says with a smirk
The movie has been going on for a while and Luke finally arrives.
Lorelai looks at him and says: "Luke, where the hell have you been, Loca?". That gets a snort out of Rory and a confused look from Luke.
"I'm bringing you freaks the heroin you orderd" Luke says while putting the food in their lap and they both thank him.
He's about to leave when Lorelai says: "Thank you, Spider Monkey", getting another snort from Rory and another weird look from Luke before he leaves.
The movie ends and they go sleep at Lorelai's bed, 'cause after months not talking, they're going to be damned if they will separate anytime sooner. Before Rory falls into a coma she says: "I missed you, mom". Lorelai smiles, kiss her forehead and responds: "I missed you more, kid."
