"Alright alright, stop here. The location's a block away, I can just hoof it the rest of the way so they don't see anyone came with me—" "D, you sure about this?"
Donnie blinked at April, pausing to try and think of a response. Of course he was sure! ...Wasn't he?
"I'm... it's fine. Just wait here, I'll keep you updated."
With that, Donnie slipped out of the backseat of Casey's beater car and started jogging to make it to the rest of the tech club, waving to them once they were in sight. Jeremy gave a small smile and a wave in response, while Jase looked a little nervous and Kendra looked bored.
"Hey! So... what're we burning the midnight oil on tonight?" Donnie greeted.
"Took you long enough," Kendra scoffed.
"It's... midnight exactly, I'm on time—" "See this building behind us?"
Donnie looked up from Kendra to the building, with its lights off. A... bank?
"Uh, yeah? I just thought we were meeting here so we could go somewhere else, what's—" "Nuh-uh. Not going anywhere except inside there. You wanna be in the club, right? Prove it. Get us inside," Kendra demanded.
Alarm bells were going off inside Donnie's head. He pushed them aside, surely once he got them inside they'd decide to go somewhere else, that it was just... a prank. Hazing was a thing groups like this did, right?
"...Alright," Donnie gulped.
He approached the keypad next to the doors and plugged a wire from his vambrace into it. He took a deep breath to steady his nerves and began running an algorithm to brute force the pin. Within seconds, the light on the keypad turned green and there was a click as the doors unlocked. He unplugged himself and walked in with the rest of the club as Kendra opened the doors.
"Okay, I did what you wanted, now what's the actual plan for the night? Oooh, I know of a computer cafe that's open until 3am, and they actually serve cafe stuff there too. Can't eat at the computers, but that's whatever," Donnie rambled.
"Hey, Nic?" Kendra glanced at Donnie.
"Y-yeah?"
She chuckled a bit, making direct eye contact with him and smirking. It was the same way she had looked at him when she had praised his technical knowledge earlier in the day, but it felt... different this time.
"We've been planning this for months. You didn't get fully informed on the plan since you just joined, that's my bad, but listen up. We're here to get into their systems and transfer money from some bank accounts into others. It's like a heist, just with less guns and packing wads of cash into duffle bags," Kendra explained.
Donnie's mouth was ajar, words caught in his throat.
"Yeesh, they don't keep the A/C on past closing? Hold this for me, wouldja Jase?" Kendra groaned, pulling off her sweatshirt and dumping it into Jase's arms.
Under the sweatshirt, Kendra was wearing a tank top. And on her left arm was a winding sleeve tattoo of a dragon. Donnie's eyes widened, then the red flags he had been ignoring started appearing again. Purple, too much purple, don't trust a group wearing purple. His mouth felt dry. Kendra's smirk turned sinister— it had always been sinister.
He pressed a button on his vambrace. Then he heard a tiny beep and the screen powered off. He looked up to see Kendra with her phone out, thumb on the screen that displayed some basic UI for a hacking app.
"You're not calling anyone, Niccolo," Kendra stated, "Y'know that pin we gave you? We used it to get into that armband thingy. I can turn it off whenever I want. Be lucky I didn't care more to really go into it. Now be a good little nerd and help us with the plan and maybe you can join the Purple Dragons. Well, if you stop being such a coward."
Meanwhile, Casey and April's phones lit up with a new message from Donnie.
This is an automated response. The emergency alert has been activated. [DONATELLO] is in trouble.
