Chapter 1: Lesson

Chapter Text

Junsu flicked the magazine he had been reading over and over the past hour, bored out of his mind.

More than a half year had passed since the trial had begun, he had lost track of the exact count. Though the trial went on fast enough, every day seemed to go by endlessly slow.

Junsu missed the old days, where everything happened smoothly and quickly, the work got done with joy and laughter. He missed how Yunho always guided them well and supported them no matter what.

And he missed the constant pleading for food from their strong-willed maknae Changmin.

But time with them had gotten rare, like an ocean - both literally and figurative - now separated them. He somehow even missed Jaejoong, the mother-like figure of DBSK, who had become quite a quiet workaholic after leaving Korea.

Despite being a natural mood maker, the always happy one, Junsu found it hard to wake up with a smile some mornings. At least Yoochun - Junsu shot a glance in his direction, noticing that his hyung zapped mindlessly through the TV channels - still seemed the same.

Junsu looked back at the magazine, which was in Japanese. He hated the headline, JYJ in Tokyo Dome , as he was still not comfortable with this new name. Reading further, the word ‘English’ caught his attention, and he immediately knew what to spend his time on. If only he could get Yoochun to help.

“Yoochun-ah!” Junsu called, only getting a lazy snort in return.

Hissing lowly but refusing to give up, Junsu sneaked up behind Yoochun, where he pulled out one of Yoochun’s hairs, his victim yelping, and grabbed the remote control from Yoochun’s hand.

“Yoochun!” Junsu said again. Yoochun rubbed his head and moaned, before answering. “What?”

“I’m bored,” Yoochun stared blankly at him, “so I want you to teach me English.”

“Why do you suddenly want to learn that?” Yoochun said and shrugged his shoulders. “If you’re bored, why don’t you just go play soccer or something?”

Junsu shook his head and made puppy eyes. “Yoochun, please~!” He whined.

Yoochun sighed. “Fine, fine.” Then smirked wryly. “But you have to do everything I say without any questions, and show others what you have learnt, okay?”

Junsu nodded obediently, and the English lesson began.

The next day Jaejoong was discussing some things with the manager and one of the music recorders, when Yoochun entered alone and sat down with papers in front of his face, covering half of it.

Jaejoong raised an eyebrow but remained quiet.

“Where’s Junsu?” Their manager asked. Yoochun coughed and ducked further behind the papers. “He’ll be here soon.”

Just then Junsu made his entrance: “Yo! Wazzup, homies! Are ya all down with mah hoes or whut?”

Everyone stared speechless at Junsu in disbelief, and he stopped. “What? What’s wrong?”

Another cough could be heard, and they turned their attention to Yoochun, who sniggered behind the now half-crumbled papers.

Jaejoong frowned. “Yoochun, did you tell him to do this?”

“That. Was. Freaking. HILARIOUS!” Yoochun now cried from laughter, almost falling down his chair.

Shocked, Junsu just looked at Yoochun, while Jaejoong clicked his tongue. “Don’t tease him like that.”

“I know, I know. Sorry.” Yoochun rubbed his eyes, shot a glance at Junsu and burst out laughing again.

“Yoochun, you asshole!” Junsu shouted and stomped out, leaving them to go sulking alone out of embarrassment.

Hours later, after no signs of Junsu, Yoochun went to their shared bedroom and found the door locked.

He knocked. “Junsu, please open. I know you’re in there.”

Rustling with pillows was heard, followed by a ‘go away’.

Yoochun sighed and sat down in front of the door. “I’m not going to leave, you know. You can listen to what I have to say or ignore it, the choice is yours.”

A quiet ‘hmph!’ from behind the door, and Yoochun continued. “I’m really sorry about before, Junsu, I didn’t mean to hurt you like this. You’re very dear to me and I can’t help but tease you.”

Silence.

“If I have to tell the truth, lately I have had a hard time seeing anything positive. Without Yunho and Changmin, Jaejoong keeping himself busy; it feels lonely. I’m also busy with my own projects, like acting. But, Junsu, you still make my days joyful by just being here.”

Nothing.

“Junsu, are you listening? You want to get better at English, right? It’s going to be hard, but I’ll help you, starting now: I love you.”

The door got opened without any warnings, and Yoochun fell backwards until he hit something. He looked up into Junsu’s face. “I understood that.” Junsu said expressionlessly.

“Junsu-ah, I’m sorry…” Yoochun’s voice was hoarse.

“You promise to teach me proper English?” Nodding, Yoochun replied. “I’ll teach you everything.”

Still expressionless, Junsu continued. “And you’re really sorry? You won’t ever embarrass me like this again?” Yoochun looked down and nodded once more.

“Good then.” Junsu said, leaned forward and kissed Yoochun on the forehead. Then grinned. “But you’re sleeping on the couch tonight.”
