Your hand is on the handle when his unexpectedly loud voice comes from behind you.
“Kitsuragi.”
You hope your slight flinch wasn’t obvious, and turn to face him again, raising an enquiring eyebrow. Seeing him stare at you openly is rather strange, as is his expression; the only way you can think to describe it is ‘struggling’.
“He’ll be drinking,” he says, after a long moment. His tone is as mixed as his face; he’s almost apologising to you, but at the same time there’s something angry and accusative in there, and a trace of what could be a bitter amusement.
He’s deeply upset, but you can’t tell with what- or at whom. Probably you, unfortunately.
“Who?” you ask, instead of anything else you could say, and even though you know perfectly well who it is he’s talking about. From the way he snorts, he knows you know.
