Chapter 1: Hands

Chapter Text

Eddie lifted his arms up slightly and flexed his fingers, clicking a few knuckles before his hands settled on his guitar again, and he tilted his head towards her. “Song?”

Sat cross-legged in the middle of Eddie’s bed, in nothing but one of his shirts, Y/N couldn’t help but smile at her boyfriend where he was sat on a stool beside his amp, guitar leant against his thigh. She always found it sweet that he asked her what to play, even if she did usually choose some of the same tracks every time. She just found it endearing when he played her favourite songs for her.

She pressed her lips into a thin line for a moment, eyes glued to the few cassettes that she had already laid out on the bed in front of her, before her hand lifted down to grasp ahold of a familiar blue and black case, and Metallica’s ‘Ride The Lightning’ was handed to Eddie. “Fade To Black.” She told him, and didn’t miss the smile that was already working its way onto his lips as he took it from her.

“Surely you just have to close your eyes and you can picture me playing that one now.” He teased as he leaned over to put the cassette into his player, and if she tried really hard then she probably could.

“S’not as good as the real thing.” She told him, and Eddie grinned at her.

He pressed play on the sixth track of her favourite album before he settled back on the stool, and the familiar build up to the song filled the room with a warm familiarity that she only ever associated with Eddie.

Most of the time, when he played something for her, she sang along to the words as she admired him, his skill of the instrument. Sometimes she closed her eyes and let herself just listen, sometimes she watched him in awe. But this time, as his fingers slid across the fretboard for the first time, she couldn’t keep from staring at his damn hands.

Maybe it was her fault. The night before when she had slept over, she had spent an hour repainting his nails in a shiny black lacquer because he wouldn’t stop complaining that he had chipped them the week before. She had felt the weight of his palm in her smaller hands, the warmth of his skin contrasted with the cool metal of his rings. She felt how the tips of his fingers on his left hand were slightly calloused, rough from constantly pressing into the strings when he played. And then when she had finished painting them, half an hour later when he had barely let them dry, she had felt his hands against her face when he had pulled her in for a greedy kiss; the fingers in her hair, the rings pressed to her jaw, the stroking of his thumb against her lips when he had pulled away.

It was all that she could think about as his fingers slid along the fretboard with a skilled ease, before the pads of his fingers pressed down on the frets to play. The black on his nails reflected the light every so often, if his hand was angled in the correct direction. His rings pressed together as his hand moved, the chunky metal knocking together, and if the music wasn’t so loud then she probably would have heard it. Any chance of her focusing on the song went out the window when he flexed his hand a certain way and the veins in his wrist were more visible, the green lines stark from his pale skin.

By the time the song came to a close almost seven minutes later - an embarrassingly long amount of time to be staring - she had probably imprinted every little detail of his hands to memory. The next track started, ‘Trapped Under Ice’ filling his bedroom, but instead of playing along to that too Eddie reached over to then the volume of the music down. As he leaned his hand gripped the neck of the guitar, and his knuckles were white as they stretched the skin of his hand.

“Hello?” It was only when he waved his hand did she blink a few times and look up at his face, expression like a deer caught in the headlights. “You still with me?”

Y/N cleared her throat and nodded, smiling at him as her cheeks blushed pink. “Yeah, your talent just blew me away.” She teased, but he seemed unconvinced.

Eddie sat his guitar on the floor leant against his drawers, before his arms were out towards her. “C’mere.”

As she got off of his bed the shirt she was wearing fell loose down her thighs, way too big, and she caught him staring as she went over to him. It was a bit precarious, the stool probably would struggle under both of their weights with its skinny legs, but as soon as his hands had gripped her hips she was in his lap, her inner thighs pressed to the outside of his. She could practically feel the heat that radiated from her face from the blush, and Eddie grinned as his hand lifted to swipe his thumb against the warm skin.

“You’re so cute, y’know that?” His tone was so full of entertainment that she grumbled and tried to tilt her head away, but his fingers that spread out along her jawline kept her head tilted towards him. “Ah ah,” he teased. “You’re not embarrassed I caught you staring, are you?”

He was grinning, and the smugness that radiated from his body was awful. “I hate you.”

Eddie laughed, still swiping his thumb along her pink cheek. “Nah, you don’t.” It wasn’t until he pressed a kiss against her lips that she relaxed, and gently laced her fingers with his free hand, feeling the familiar calluses and rings against her own skin.
