Work Text:
He should have known that it was going to be a bad day when the moment he woke up and went to attend to his daughter, Biyoo fusses and refuses to be let carried by him.
An unusual thing by itself considering that one of her favorite places to be is in Dokja's arms. But today every time she's in his arms she giggles and tries to escape his arms, trying to get one of her siblings or Joonghyuk to carry her.
In the end, Joonghyuk is the one that ends up carrying her but not before glaring at him, suspicion all written on his face.
Rude, especially considering that Dokja has done nothing to deserve that glare, still, with a mastery that only he has he ignores his husband's glare, and goes to help Gilyoung and Yoosung prepare their things for school, and if their conversation and the noise that is born from it causes him a headache, well, there's nothing really wrong with blaming it on the poor sleep he has had last night, right?
Still, well rested or not the day still continues and he can't allow himself to stop just because he's feeling a little under the weather. Ignoring his headache he runs behind his kids, hurrying them up and making sure that they both have all the things they need.
Once they have everything ready he leads them towards the kitchen, breakfast at the ready and both of them descend over it like hungry wolves.
Joonghyuk is busy with Biyoo, and when he tries to carry her he's met once again with rejection. His husband simply glares at him again, and ignoring him Dokja busies himself with cleaning the dishes.
Both Yoosung and Gilyoung are quick to finish their breakfast, and Joonghyuk ushers them to clean their teeth.
It's still early, but the school that the kids go to is far, and the journey to it is a half-long one, and it becomes even longer if they leave late and they end up trapped in the traffic. So, even though the sun still isn't even making its first appearance in the sky, the kids are already all packed up and getting in the car, all ready to leave.
Right behind them, both he and Joonghyuk walk hand in hand, Biyoo still refusing him, so right now she’s once again resting on Joonghyuk's arms, slowly falling once again asleep.
The kids get in the car, and he does the same while Joonghuyk puts Biyoo on her baby seat. Behind him, the kids are quick to start their conversation once again but Dokja knows that soon along the journey they will fall asleep once again, only to be awoken when they arrive at their school.
Joonghyuk ends with Biyoo and he gets in the car, and with the chatter of the kids echoing loudly inside his head, Joonghyuk begins to drive away.
The journey is the same one that it has been for as long as the kids have attended the school, they traverse the same streets, pass through already familiar paths, and even when he closes his eyes Dokja is still able to tell where exactly they are.
But still, the familiarity that he has acquired over the course of the years doesn’t help to prevent the dizziness that comes to him when they take a turn, it doesn’t help with the headache that follows when they start to arrive at the most concurred streets, the honking of other cars the only sound outside.
They pass through another turn, and this time he has to close his eyes when around him the world is nothing more than a blur, beside him Joonghyuk grunts but right now he can barely hear it over the pounding inside his head.
He spends the rest of the journey with his eyes closed and trying to calm himself in hopes of it reducing his headache, but they arrive at school and he has only seemed to grow worse.
Still, he manages to say his goodbyes to the kids and see them leave the car and enter school, but he can’t help but shiver when they open the door and the air outside hits him.
Noticing his trembling Joonghyuk turns the heather on but after some minutes the hot becomes almost unbearable, still, Dokja says nothing and tries to fall asleep just like Biyoo is doing behind them.
He has no luck and by the time they arrive at their home, he’s burning, his head hurts so much that every sound no matter how low it is causes him nothing more than pain, and around him the world feels like too much.
He tries to get off the car but by that point, his body feels weak, and even though he just recently woke up he’s tired, and his head feels numb to the point that thinking is hard.
He is so out of it that he doesn’t realize when his husband takes Biyoo inside their home and then comes back to him, the only thing he’s barely able to process is the door being opened by someone who isn’t him, strong arms carrying him and taking him inside his home.
Awake but not processing he simply allows himself to be taken to his room once again, and then he’s let down gently on the bed.
The sheets are cold, and when they touch his warm and sweaty skin they stick to him and they feel uncomfortable, he just took a bath when he awoke, but he is once again dirty and gross, but still, even just the thought alone of trying to drag himself to the bathroom and take a shower steals the little energy that he still has in him, and even now, with his head numb and in pain he knows that a bath is outside of the things he will be able to do right now.
So instead he succumbs to his fatigue and falls asleep, hoping that the flu that he now knows that he has goes away or at least gets smaller by the time he wakes up.
Joonghyuk is still there, looking after him and having to call to work to notify about his absence, but right now Dokja knows nothing of that.
And so, he sleeps.
