Work Text:
It was a Monday morning. That alone should’ve been enough to tell Aizawa the day was going to be awful and he’d better just stay in bed as a precaution. Maybe he’d save himself a migraine or two that way. But, for whatever reason, he had thought: ‘Surely a random Monday can’t be that bad,’ and made his way to his class.
That led him to where he was now, having just opened the door and staring at 1A in… he wouldn’t call it disbelief, because he could very well believe what he was seeing. It was more like resigned annoyance with left headache.
The source of his troubles was Todoroki, who was glowing a bright, radioactive green. He’d known Todoroki wasn’t the greatest when it came to self-preservation and common sense, but taking a deep dive in a nuclear waste pit was a new low, even for him. The worst part was how he just sat there like any other morning, like nothing was wrong.
For some godforsaken reason that prompted Aizawa to take a closer look at the other students. Most of them looked- well, not normal, considering who he was dealing with, but at least better than Todoroki who was currently giving any and all Geiger counters in the nearby vicinity an aneurysm.
Except Iida, who had lost his engines and Midoriya, who had apparently gained a new Quirk (Engine). Both were, like Todoroki, sitting there as if everything was fine and dandy.
Aizawa turned around again and left.
This, he decided, was not going to be his problem.
Yamada was having a good time. His favorite podcast had just released a new episode that he was currently listening to, he already had done quite a lot of his work for this week and his first class would only start in a few hours. He leaned back on his chair, and seeing as nobody else was in the teacher’s lounge to witness him do it, he even put his feet up on his desk.
Unfortunately, someone decided to slam the door open. He startled, lost his balance and fell to the ground with a thud.
“You.”
Aizawa was looming over him like he was Death and going to take his soul away.
“Me?”
“No, the other obnoxious blond lying on the ground.”
He quickly glanced around, just in case he’d overlooked Small Might again. It had happened before and now Yamada had to live with the shame that came with thinking you’re alone, turning your music up and dancing around, only to stumble over Aizawa’s capture weapon and tangling yourself in it, and then realizing the Number One Hero had been watching the entire time.
“I meant you.”
“You can never know where he might be hiding next.”
Aizawa rolled his eyes.
“Whatever. You’re going to teach 1A today.”
Well, that certainly was news to him.
“Huh?”
“You heard me. I’m not going to deal with them.”
Before Yamada could reply anything, Aizawa walked away again to vanish below his desk, curling up in his sleeping bag and resolutely ignoring any further attempts at communication.
Normally, Yamada would be more than willing to help his husband out, but if he couldn’t deal with whatever 1A had done, there was no way Yamada could. So, he did the only thing he could.
Kayama’s phone vibrated again. This was the fourth time in a row. She was usually happy to ignore calls when she felt like it, but this seemed important.
…Why on earth was Yamada calling her?
She picked up.
“Hey, Nem! I’m so, so sorry to bother you, but can you pretty please do something really big for me?”
Yeah, that didn’t answer any of her questions. It did, however, intrigue her.
“What is it?”
“I know it’s a lot to ask and I’m really, truly sorry to disturb you on your free day, but can you please go teach 1A because Shou has asked me to do it and I wasn’t quick enough to refuse, but I don’t think my mental health can take that, but I can’t also just leave that class alone, that would be so much worse, so please?”
How he hadn’t collapsed from asphyxiation after saying all that without taking a single breath, Kayama didn’t know.
What she did know was that she was not going to touch whatever was going on with 1A with a ten foot pole if even Aizawa had quit.
“Sure.”
“Thank you!! Nem, I love you so much, you’re the best.”
“I know.”
Snomnambulist: Remember that one time I beat you at poker and you said you owed me?
Yeethaw🤠: Yes?
Snomnambulist: It’s time to pay up 💰💰💰💰
Yeethaw🤠: Oh Uh
Yeethaw🤠: What do you need me to do?
Yeethaw🤠: Before you answer that, let me send you my ToS
Yeethaw🤠: I’m not going to shoot someone for you
Snomnambulist: I’m insulted
Snomnambulist: You know very well I can take care of my enemies on my own
Snomnambulist: It’s worse than that
Snomnambulist: You’re going to teach 1A today
Yeethaw🤠: (⊙_⊙;)
Yeethaw🤠: Do I have to? Or can I cash in someone else’s favor?
Snomnambulist: What do you think I’m doing?
Snomnambulist: I don’t care as long as someone supervises them and it doesn’t have to be me
Yeethaw🤠: You got it
Yeethaw🤠: I know who replaced the water in your flask with vinegar
Bumblebee Jr.: Who?
Yeethaw🤠: You have to promise to do something for me first
Bumblebee Jr.: I'm not building that horrible gun abomination you want
Yeethaw🤠: It's not that
Bumblebee Jr.: I'm also not letting Hatsume build it for you
Yeethaw🤠: It has nothing to do with guns whatsoever
Bumblebee Jr.: Then let me be your humble servant
Yeethaw🤠: It was Mic
Bumblebee Jr.: He's dead
Yeethaw🤠: Don't tell me that, I don't want to be accused of being your accomplice
Bumblebee Jr.: So, what do I have to do now?
Yeethaw🤠: Oh, nothing to bad
Yeethaw🤠: You just have to teach 1A today
Bumblebee Jr.: Joke's on you
Bumblebee Jr.: I'm with the supports, there's no way in hell I'm leaving them alone
Yeethaw🤠: I fail to see how that is my problem
Well, fuck.
Power Loader looked up from his phone, only to witness one of his beloved and talented students faceplant after stumbling over someone's abandoned creation.
"Are you alright?"
The student nodded.
"Great. Whoever put that there, it better be gone within the next few minutes."
Hatsume gave him a thumbs up, blowtorch still in hand. This girl was going to be the figurative and literal death of him. And also his savior, in this particular case.
He'd wanted to save it for something else, but Vlad still owed him after losing a bet. A few weeks ago, he absentmindedly said something about how Hatsume was going to cause the next property damage to UA (as opposed to his class), so obviously Power Loader held against that because only he got to complain about Hatusme’s explosive tendencies.
Needless to say, he’d bribed her with extra lab time as soon as he saw her again if, and only if, she wasn’t the next student to destroy something. She pulled through for him (and more lab time), so now he was one favor richer. Or, well, was one favor richer.
After making sure that nothing was going to explode, implore, or otherwise suddenly change its appearance against everyone’s will, he called Vlad.
“What is it? I’m in the middle of homeroom, you know.”
Technically, he was as well, but there hadn’t been anything to discuss and his students were all laser-focused on their projects, anyways.
“I’m calling because of that bet you lost.”
Vlad exhaled.
“Right now? Can’t it wait?”
“Nope. I need to teach 1A, but I don’t want to, so it’s your job now.”
“What? How? Why do you have anything to do with that class?”
“I have no idea. Snipe made me do it, so now I’m making you do it.”
“Why are you all like this?”
“Great question.”
So, apparently his colleagues had all chosen the same day to finally buckle under the pressure of being a Hero and teacher because that was the only possible explanation why he, homeroom teacher of 1B, was suddenly supposed to teach 1A instead.
Vlad did the only thing any reasonable person would do at this stage and textedEctoplasm. Nevermind the fact that he was still sitting with his class.
Van Helsing did nothing wrong: Hey Ecto
Van Helsing did nothing wrong: Can I ask you for a favor? Everyone else seems out of it
Wannabe Pirate: I’m busy right now, but I can see if I can get anyone else to help you?
Van Helsing did nothing wrong: Sure, that’s fine too
Aizawa was enjoying his surprise nap time when out of nowhere someone loomed above him. The someone turned out to be Ectoplasm and his phone. He briefly considered acting as if he were still asleep, but judging by the fact that Ecto had seen his eyes, that wouldn’t be particularly convincing.
“Aizawa, are you free right now?”
No, he was in a very important meeting with his sleeping bag right now.
“Yep.”
“Great. Remember that time I took care of your class for you? Can you do something for me in return?”
“Yeah, what is it?”
That got Ecto to think. Welp, he wasn’t going to question that.
“Let me ask Vlad. He wanted me to do something, but I’m too busy right now.”
That sounded on par with what he knew about the other staff members. Ecto typed away on his phone, then paused for a few moments as he waited for (and presumably got) a reply. Then he stared at his phone in disbelief, typed something again and stared some more.
"Well, this is awkward. He wants you to go and teach 1A."
Aizawa groaned. How has this happened? He'd told Yamada to do it and now it was suddenly back to him?
The universe really wasn't going to give him just a few minutes of peace, huh?
