Chapter 1: Amy meets Twelve [minicomic]

Chapter Text

General description: The whole comic is in blue tones, except for Amy’s red hair as a pop of colour. There are no backgrounds when they’re not described, just a plain blue colour.
A smaller panel shows Amy's hand reaching for a few envelopes on a table. She's wearing nail polish. One envelope is TARDIS blue. Next, in the main panel, Amy is holding the TARDIS blue envelope with two hands, sliding a finger under the flap to open it. The envelope has many stamps stuck on it haphazardly, but the artist didn't draw the details of the stamps. Amy is looking at the envelope, frowning. Amy says: Right, another ominous blue envelope…

A close up on the card that Amy is holding in her hands. It is handwritten in a quite erratic and irregular way, and there are inkblots on it. The card reads: THE DOCTOR is happy (?) to announce that he has regenerated into a new face still going by the name of THE DOCTOR and would like to let his Ponds (“Ponds” is crossed out) friends know that he is still pretty much the same (only more handsome) but since humans have such a hard time dealing with change, ETC. ETC. ANYWAY the Doctor will come by your house to get it over with (“to get it over with” is crossed out) for tea JUST about NOW.

A close up on the very bottom of the card, where there is a line scribbled in a much smaller handwriting. It says: bow ties were never cool???!!! how did I even think that

Amy is holding the card in front of her face, still staring at the message. Her eyes are wide and her eyebrows are raised. In the background there is the beginning of a sound effect (cut off by the border of the panel). It reads: VWOORR

Amy lowers the card in front of her and turns her head in the direction of the sound. Her expression is still puzzled. The sound effects read: VWOORRRP VWOORRRP VWOORRRP, cut off at the border to suggest the sound is coming from a little way away.

This panel has some elements of background as we zoom out to see Amy stepping out of the door from her house to her back garden. There’s a tree, some plants, some grass, and the glass doors Amy is coming out of. All this is in the background and in the foreground, the TARDIS has materialised. The panel shows Amy’s full outfit: she’s wearing a long-sleeved striped jumper, jeans, and no shoes - only socks.

A close up on the TARDIS’ doors, where the right door is more centred. It is still closed but there is a little “click” sound coming from the handle area.

A close up on Amy. She’s looking on with a worried or wary expression, frowning slightly.

Closer on the TARDIS doors. Twelve has opened the right door (for the viewer) and is leaning out slightly, still on the threshold. He has a stern expression and is frowning.

Back to Amy. She looks really taken aback, she leans back very slightly. She asks: Are you…?

Twelve comes out of the TARDIS fully, leaving the door ajar. He’s wearing Eleven’s outfit that he had at the moment he regenerated. No bow tie, a shirt, a waistcoat and waistcoat chain, and a coat. He is letting out a sigh, looking annoyed, and asking: Didn’t you get the card?

Amy and Twelve are facing each other, in profile. Amy still looks surprised, Twelve still grumpy.
Amy: I…
Twelve: Long story short: I died. Then I was reborn. Time Lords will do that sometimes.

In a long vertical panel, Amy is just standing there, speechless, holding one arm with her hand, which makes her look a bit awkward or uncomfortable. In the next panel, Twelve is talking a lot, holding up one hand, as if he was talking with his hands maybe. He says: You saw how River did it. I did the same thing. Well… Not with that much ease. I felt rather sick. Was my handwriting so bad that you couldn’t read the card? Is that why you’re gawking at me like that? Anyway, I don’t know how she recovered so quickly. But then, regeneration and I- Here he is interrupted by Amy’s speech bubble, in a bigger font, as if she’s deliberately talking over him and louder than him: Wait a minute!

Twelve is stepping back a little, as Amy is advancing on him, her hair flowing back. She has a determined expression, one hand balled up. Twelve looks a little taken aback. Twelve: What? Amy: Firstly, you died?! Permanently? And this is how you announce it? Twelve: Not permanently, or I wouldn’t be here. Do try to keep up.

Next panel, Amy makes a lunge for him, poking her pointed finger at the top of his chest. She looks very annoyed now. She exclaims: Secondly! Twelve is completely taken aback, frowning and generally not looking happy, leaning back slightly, his hands up in quite defensive posture.

Amy rests her forearm on Twelve’s shoulder, looking a bit smug, smiling. Twelve looks down on her hand on his shoulder, slightly outraged. Amy says: That’s an… interesting new voice you’ve got here.

Twelve crosses his arms, raises his shoulders and looks totally grumpy. Amy rests her hand on his shoulder, the other hand on her hip; she is now smiling broadly.
Twelve: Oh! Wha- No. I’m not.
Amy: You’re not…? You didn’t take-
Twelve: I didn’t.
Amy: …inspiration from someone?

Twelve uncrosses his arms and pushes Amy’s hand off his shoulder. Amy is still grinning; eyes closed, she’s running a hand through her hair. Amy: Someone you deeply admire. I mean, you have to, to make them an integral part of your new… set-up, don’t you? Twelve: The accent is a coincidence, Amy. Regeneration lottery.

Twelve has his arms crossed again. He’s standing close to Amy but he’s looking sideways, away from her. Amy, hands on hips, is looking intently at him, frowning, with a slightly sulky expression.

Twelve and Amy are in the exact same positions, but Twelve is glancing sideways at Amy now. She now has a little smirk, a smug but also soft expression.

Twelve turns his head away again, he might be rolling his eyes a bit.
Twelve: I suppose… Maybe, on a subconscious level…
Amy exclaims “HA!” as she grabs Twelve’s shoulder and arm with both hands, a huge grin on her face.

Twelve looks back at Amy, arms still crossed, putting on a stern expression again. He asks: …Is that all you have to say about this new form?

Now Twelve has his hands in his pockets, looking away again, while Amy stands pensively, a hand under her chin, observing him.
Amy: Hmm… You’ve ditched the bow tie. Glad you stopped resisting my advice. There’s hope for you still.
Twelve: Yes, well, that was embarrassing. Let’s not talk about it anymore.

Twelve is still not looking at Amy. Hands still in his pockets, he shrugs.
Twelve: Anything else? Usually your lot have such a hard time with the concept of regeneration, it’s almost easier to just… move on.
Amy looks struck by this, she’s frowning.
Amy: Don’t you dare!

Twelve and Amy are staring at each other. Now it’s Amy who’s crossing her arms. She looks pissed, frowning deeply. Twelve looks quite surprised by her reaction. In the background, there’s the sound effect of a door slamming shut: SLAM. There’s a speech bubble coming from someone off panel, that says: I’m home ~

Closer on Amy and Twelve. Amy looks back, away from Twelve, presumably in the direction of the house. She calls out: The Doctor’s gone Scottish!
Twelve is now smiling fondly, looking at her.

From off panel, the person (Rory, of course) is speechless for a moment, then exclaims: What?!
Amy has turned back towards Twelve and is grinning, looking very amused. Twelve is looking at her even more fondly. End of the comic.
