feeling sick sucks, but it’s something jisung has become familiar with. something he can usually handle. feeling sick and missing a schedule, though? it upsets him every time it happens, and he feels like it’s been happening a lot recently. he worries that the rest of the group is getting sick of it, that they wish he would just leave entirely so they wouldn’t have to keep apologizing for his absence.

normally he knows this isn’t true, but being alone with your own brain for seven hours can make a guy doubt himself.

jisung’s thoughts are interrupted by the front door slamming open, and a loud “shh! jisung might be sleeping!” he grins at chan’s parenting attempt and moves to get out of the bed he had laid down in half an hour ago when he realized he couldn’t focus on anything else. his head hurts at the movement but he ignores it, padding over to his bedroom door and opening it to find a startled chan standing there, hand up to knock.

“sungie! you’re up! changbin didn’t wake you by slamming the door, did he?” he pointedly looks at said member, who raises his hands in surrender.

“i said sorry!” changbin drops his hands as he joins them by jisung’s door. “feeling any better, ji?”

jisung shrugs. “my head still hurts and i still don’t want to leave this apartment but other than that i’m fine?” they both nod sympathetically, and chan places a comforting hand on his shoulder.

“do you need me to get you anything?”

“nah, i’m just gonna use the bathroom and probably try to sleep. thanks though.” jisung gives a small smile to both of them, and changbin pats his arm before heading to his own room, probably to change. he can feel that chan wants to argue and tell him he should eat, or drink some water, but the leader doesn’t.

“let me know if you need something.” chan ruffles his hair affectionately before turning to go to his room as well. jisung nods in confirmation and heads to the bathroom, stopped almost immediately by the front door slamming open again.

“hey ji! you’re awake! how are you feeling?” hyunjin comes in like a whirlwind, barely closing the door behind him before dropping his bag and hurrying over to jisung to wrap him in a hug. jisung relaxes against him for a moment before hyunjin pulls back, concerned by the lack of response. “are you still feeling bad? do you need anything? did you miss us? because i would miss us too.”

jisung rolls his eyes, but can’t fight the grin that spreads across his face as hyunjin—obviously hyped up on something—continued to tangent about the show they were on. it was nice to see him this excited about something, even if it kind of hurt that it was something jisung couldn’t be a part of.

“yah! hwang hyunjin!” changbin’s voice cuts through the apartment as he half-steps out of his room, now in a pair of sweatpants. “ji has a headache and i’m about to have one too. hush!”

hyunjin gives a small bow of his head. “sorry hyung! i love you!” he shoots changbin a finger heart, and changbin grumpily accepts it, catching it from the air as he disappears back into his room.

“sorry ji, i think i had too much of the cake felix made.” he grins sheepishly, hoping the other isn’t upset with him for talking so long.

“it’s okay jinnie, hearing about it makes it feel less like i missed out on it. except the cake, that sucks to miss.” he’s half joking, but hyunjin’s face drops for a moment before lighting up again.

“oh! about that,” hyunjin turns to the bag he’d dropped on the floor, and rifles through it for a moment before pulling out what looks like a big bundle of napkins and handing it to jisung, who takes it carefully.

     “ i saved a piece for you. “

he unwraps the layers of napkin to find an only slightly smushed piece of cake, and his heart swells. “thank you jinnie.”

hyunjin suddenly looks a bit embarrassed, playing with the rings on his hands. “sorry it’s kind of squished, i had to save it in secret.”

jisung honestly wouldn’t have minded if it had been crumbs, the fact that hyunjin cared enough to save him a piece was enough to make him happy. he says as much, which makes hyunjin blush.

“ugh you sap. just go eat your smushed cake.” hyunjin groans, pushing on jisung’s shoulder, but jisung doesn’t miss the smile that he tries to fight. he doesn’t call him on it though, heading to the kitchen to do as told.

when he’s leaning against the counter, eating the cake with the only clean utensil—a spoon—he thinks that this is probably the single best piece of cake he’s ever had, and the comfortable warmth in his chest agrees. they’d never get sick of him, and this cake is proof of that. or maybe jisung is sick and just waxing poetic.

     yea, probably that.
