Vincenzo looked up when he heard his office door opening, seeing Luca enter the room, holding… a gun in his hand.
“We’re playing paintball.” He explained at Vincenzo’s confused look, “As a teaching exercise for Michel, you know?”
“Michel seems to be able to take care of himself.”
“When pushed.” Luca corrected, “I want him to be the shoot first, ask questions later sort of man.”
Personally, Vincenzo didn’t think that was who Michel was, but he could understand the urge. After a poisoning and an attempted kidnapping, some form of self-defence was needed.
“We figured this was a way to make it fun, whilst not treating it like training.” Luca shrugged, “I don’t think he’ll appreciate us treating him like he’s a child.”
“Hence the paintball.” Vincenzo shook his head, “I have paperwork to do. I am sure that all of the well-trained men I have at my disposal can teach my brother how to aim and shoot.”
“… It’s only for an hour or two.”
“We both know that won’t be the case.” Vincenzo stared at the form on his screen for a moment more, before sighing and saving his progress, “Alright…but I have a feeling it will be a little one-sided.”
“…On who’s side?”
“It’s best I don’t tell you that. I don’t want to give you a complex.”
“Hey!”
…………………………………
“You managed to get Vincenzo out of his office!” Michel beamed, rushing over as the pair arrived.
“I’ve been busy.” Vincenzo sighed, crossing his arms defensively over his chest, “And I leave my office plenty of times.”
“Only when we drag you out kicking and screaming.”
Vincenzo rolled his eyes but found that he was unable to keep the smile off his face. Maybe Michel’s words had a ring of truth about them, but he wasn’t about to admit that out loud. “Just remember, I’m not going to go easy on you.”
“I hope you remember that the last time I used a gun, I failed to kill my brother, so please do?” Michel pouted.
Vincenzo hated how blasé he was about that.
“It’s paintball, nothing fatal.”
Michel was still pouting though, not looking overly happy with the defence.
“Have you ever been paintballing before?” Vincenzo then asked Michel, who shook his head.
“Just hunting…. It’s nearly the same, right?”
“Less fatal and more fun.” Vincenzo chuckled, “Very, very competitive. Split into teams and let’s go!”
Michel stuck close to Luca, who immediately claimed him as part of his team, many of the other men who had joined them, not looking too sure if they were even allowed to fire at their boss, his brother and his best friend.
There were some who looked a little excited by the prospect of shooting their boss.
“Alright…” Luca announced, “… my team is shooting blue, and Vincenzo’s is shooting red. The aim is to remain hidden for as long as possible, and take shots that that either fatal or crippling... helmets and vests on!”
Vincenzo glanced over at Michel, who was looking a little more uncertain now.
“Go!” Luca ordered just as everyone finished putting their protective gear on.
Immediately Vincenzo headed up a small hill to the left, knowing that having the high ground would help a little in this circumstance, taking shelter near a boulder as he watched various people take a similar stance.
The game was on.
………………………………………………………………
Vincenzo wasn’t a terrible shot, this game proved that as he took out a good portion of Luca’s team.
Luca and Michel though, were a little bit terrifying.
Luca he could understand, but Michel?
Just what was included in those hunting trips he went on?
When the final paintball was fired, hitting Vincenzo in the back, he turned to the last pair with a mock glare, “Drinks are on me then I guess?”
“Yep.” Luca smirked.
“…I feel like I’ve been conned somehow.”
“Just a little.” Michel admitted, “Fath- Mr Jang was determined to make sure that I knew how to shoot, I just…never enjoyed it very much.”
“Hunting is very different from paintball.” Vincenzo admitted, “Maybe… we can do it more often then?”
“Really?”
“Really.” Vincenzo removed his blazer with a sniff, frowning at the paint stain on the back, “Wearing proper clothes next time I think.”
