“You’re being ridiculous,” she hissed at him, getting right up in his face. Her eyes were blue like the ocean, but burned like fire. Her words were like venom, dripping from her fangs. “No, scratch that. You’re being insane. You’re not friends. Hell, you don’t even really know the guy!”
“I’m helping him,” he replied, meek and quiet as a mouse.
“The only way you can help him,” she said, visibly fighting to remain calm, “is to get out of his life, permanently.”
“He needs me.”
“He needs you like he needs a gaping head wound,” she spat. “You cannot build a friendship on manslaughter and lies. I mean it, Wilbur. You need to leave Quackity alone – before it’s too late.”
---
Quackity’s life gets turned upside down when his abusive husband Schlatt is killed in a hit-and-run, leaving him alone to take care of his teenage stepson, Tubbo. He spirals, and he spirals hard. When he meets Wilbur at a grief support group the two of them strike up an unlikely friendship despite getting off on the wrong foot.
Slowly, things get better – and then they get infinitely worse.
