Chapter Text
The dress was a pale pink, with frills and white layers of fabric and tulle and embroidered strawberries covering the bodice and top skirt. There was padding around the hips and a bit at the bust to make it look less boxy on his frame and fit almost perfectly. A little tight on his arms but Ma could fix that easy.
The gift of the dress was accompanied by a new blush and eyeshadow palette, as well as a pretty red liquid eyeliner and matching lashes that Pa thought would go with the dress. They did, really well actually. The eyeshadow palette was mostly pinks and reds, with a pastel glitter set. The blush was a bit saturated, but swatched well and had a good consistency.
So, he put a look together, applying moisturizer and foundation, pink pigment on his upper and lower lid, white glitter at the inner corners. The eyeliner was smooth and applied well, painting into little hearts at the outer wings. Pa had done a good job choosing lashes, they matched the liner perfectly, and the entire look matched the dress like it had all been made to go together.
Once it was finished, he pulled the dress on, zipping up the back and brushing out any wrinkles with his hands. He opted against nail polish, it seemed a little much for the moment.
And with that he was ready, or at least ready to show his parents and call his friends, they seemed to like seeing his fun outfits. That was nice at least, they never judged him for what he wanted to wear. He was excited to see what they thought of this one.
“Ma! Are you guys downstairs? I’m finished getting dressed!” Gorgug called downstairs, hoping his Ma would be able to hear him. His parents said they’d wait for him in the living room and that's where he expected them.
“Yeah, bud! We’re on the couch waitin’ for ya!” He heard his Ma call. There was a quiet giggling that followed, Gorgug assumed it was just his Pa though, he had a habit of laughing at his own jokes. Not against the norm really.
So he made his way down the stairs, continuing to brush out wrinkles in the dress and pulled his hair into a ponytail with a scrunchie that more or less matched the dress. By the time he’d made his way down the stairs he was set, ready to show Ma the dress and Pa the makeup, show them they’d made good choices when picking out the product for him.
Upon arrival downstairs though, he found it wasn’t just his parents downstairs. His friends were there too, sitting on the couch, patiently waiting to see him. He was a bit surprised, not ashamed but surprised.
“Oh, hey guys. Ya like it?” He did a bit of a twirl, the layers of the dress swishing around his ankles. The strawberries on the skirt had a light sparkle which was accentuated by the twirl.
Fabian's jaw was on the floor and Riz was desperately trying to close it. Fig and Adaine were immediately fawning over the makeup and the dress, asking him questions about what eyeshadow he’d used and how he got the pink to go so well with his green tone. He answered most of them with an “I don’t know” or “I’m not sure”. Kristen seemed unphased, as if this were another Tuesday, offering a simple, “You look good, G”
“Oh bud, you look great! How does the dress fit? Is it too small, does the fabric feel alright?” Pa asked, walking over to brush a dust bunny off of the bottom of the skirt where Gorgug couldn’t reach.
“It fits good, Pa, sleeves are a little tight but not a huge deal. The makeup you picked is really nice too.” Gorgug smiled, lips curling back to bare his tusks a bit. The smile didn’t last long as he quickly came to the realization that he could be smudging his eyeliner, which wouldn’t be ideal.
His father nodded, wordlessly relaying that information to his mother, still smiling. “I’m glad, I’m glad. It looks nice on you, better than it would on me.” He chuckled, a hand brushing over one of the embroidered strawberries, “I reckon we could cast some sort of spell on these, make ‘em smell like real ones.” He said, brushing a hand over the skirt again before going to sit down on the couch. Fabian’s eyes were still wide, jaw dropped to the floor, Riz had given up trying to stop his gawking and settled on sitting on his shoulders to “style” his hair, pulling awkward puffs of it into rubber bands, making him look akin to a dandelion. Riz was capable of actually styling Fabian's hair but from the looks of it he had just wanted something to do with his hands. Fabian would most definitely complain about it later, but he’d get over it.
Fig was still busy fawning over the makeup, talking about how this would be a great look for one of their upcoming shows, which Gorgug was quick to decline. He was ok dressing like this around his friends and parents, but not the world, not yet.
“Just to school then, I’m sure Porter would think it's pretty sick you can still swing your ax in a skirt. And Zelda and the Maidens would love it!” Fig beamed, the gold of her irises almost glowing from her excitement, the ends of her horns smoking a bit.
Gorgug considered the offer, the school wasn’t huge and most of the kids were nice, he could pack an extra outfit and some makeup wipes in his backpack in case he wanted to change. It could work, logistically it could, and what was the worst that could happen. Sure some kid could make a mean comment but he was too big to beat up and too scary for most of the kids to even think about casting any sort of magic at him. This could work.
“Sure, I’ll wear the dress to school. But if it gets stained, you’re spending the spell slot to get it out, not Adaine or my mom. Got it?” He said, making uncomfortably direct eye contact with her while saying it.
“Absolutely, if it means I get to see that dress at school tomorrow, I’m down to burn the slot.“ Fig said, nodding about a million miles an hour, causing the smoke around her horns to dissipate, the smile on her face never wavering.
“OW! The Ball! That. Hurt.” Fabian had finally broken from his trance, recoiling from what looked like the pointy end of a comb that Riz was holding. It looked like the goblin had actually decided to put work into doing Fabians hair, his briefcase was open and he had pulled various clips, gels and combs out of it, sectioning off portions of Fabians hair and working them into twists.
Riz laughed, “Well maybe if you weren’t staring at Gorgug like he’d killed someone I wouldn’t have stabbed you.” Fabian grumbled, realizing Riz was right and looked up at Gorgug from his spot on the couch.
“It looks very nice, I’m excited to see how everyone at school reacts. And know, if they react poorly, and someone messes with you, I’ll get Ragh and we’ll beat the Helio out of them.” The half elf’s eyes were dark, something rather uncommon for him considering how pale his eyes were naturally, and Gorgug knew he wasn’t joking.
Eventually everyone filed off, back to their homes or to somewhere else they planned to stay. Fig had decided to sleep in the tour bus after an argument with Sandra Lynn over something stupid. Fabian was staying at Mordred so that he wouldn’t have to make eye contact with Gilear before going to sleep. Riz left earlier than he usually did, saying he had things to do in his office before getting some sleep. Not that Gorgug minded, it gave him time to get his makeup off and do his skin care routine before packing his backpack for tomorrow and settling into bed.
Which is essentially how the night went. He wiped off his makeup, using significantly fewer wipes than he usually did for eyeliner. He packed the lashes into their case and folded the dress neatly on top of his dresser. Skin care went on without issue, cleanser, toner, serum, acid would typically be on the list but he felt ok without it, and moisturizer. He ran a razor over his jaw to quickly take care of having to do it in the morning.
Sleep came quickly, almost as soon as his head hit the pillow he could feel himself dozing off. He was excited for the morning to come.
What could go wrong.
