Chapter Text
"Hey! Why don't we go out for dinner tonight?" Aaron asked unexpectedly one day after work
"I don't know Aaron... I'm feeling really overwhelmed right now from work and I'm not sure if I can handle being around that many people right now," Spencer says sadly
"Okay, then we'll have dinner at my house. We can either make something together, or we can order takeout from that Thai place that you really like," Aaron suggests
Aaron is always so understanding and accommodating for Spencer. He understands that Spencer gets anxious about going out, he also understands how easy it is for him to get overwhelmed. Oftentimes when Spencer is overwhelmed, he won't say anything. Aaron is doing his best to work him out of that habit.
"That sounds nice. Maybe we could order out tonight and then cook together tomorrow? Unless you had other plans for tomorrow!" Spencer states hurriedly
"I have no plans other than to hang out with you Spence," Aaron says lovingly as he pulls into the driveway
Spencer smiles to himself, this he isn't used to. He isn't used to being cared for, to being the one that people want to hang out with. He loves it though. Once inside, the pair decide on their order and Aaron makes the phone call. Spencer throws the contents of their go-bags into the washer and sits on the couch.
"Instead of eating at the table, why don't you go grab a blanket and we'll eat on the floor here. Like a picnic!" Aaron suggests
Spencer goes into Aaron's bedroom and grabs the softest blanket he can find. It's one that Aaron had bought specifically for Spencer after a really tough case. Spencer was headed down the hard road of sensory overload and had forgotten his blanket at home. Aaron found the softest blanket at the store and gave it to Spencer. They spent the rest of the night sitting on the couch under the blanket. They didn't speak. All they did was sit in the dark and warm room, waiting for Spencer to feel better.
"Spencer! The food's here! Are you alright up there?" Aaron shouts from the bottom of the stairs
"I'm coming!" Spencer says as he runs down the stairs, almost falling in the process
The two set up their floor picnic, turn on the fire place, and eat together. They talk, smile, and laugh. They do things that Spencer never expected he would do. Spencer feels more loved than ever.
