Day 11: Why'd you have to go and make me like you?
Prompt: A spooky sound comes from the kitchen.
After living with Bucciarati for around two years, if Fugo and Narancia could be sure of one thing, it was how things worked in that “home” that the three of them had formed. Everything was neatly arranged, even what seemed to be chaos, so it was a great surprise for them when one morning, Fugo (the most obsessive of order that Narancia knew) asked his friend about the state of the kitchen.
"Did you clean the countertop?"
"Fugo, though I would like to fulfill your cleaning fantasy, it is more than obvious that I don’t touch anything there. This is your territory," Narancia said, continuing to eat the cereal with milk that he had helped himself with.
"When I got downstairs, it was completely empty, and Bucciarati still hadn't woken up, so I have to assume it wasn't him."
"And have you thought it could’ve been the new guy?"
"Who? Abbacchio? That guy never leaves his room... I don’t think he would do so just to clean the kitchen at midnight."
Leonne Abbacchio had been the new acquisition of the team. From what they had understood, Bucciarati had rescued the man from the streets after what could be called "a moment of hitting rock bottom." Since then, he had stayed in the guest room and only came out to occasionally chat with his boss. He was a weird guy: dressed garishly and seemed to be angry all the time.
That gave them bad vibes, but if Bucciarati wanted him in the house, they weren't going to say no.
"Well, it had to be someone, are you sure it wasn't you?" The white-haired insisted while crossing his arms over his chest, hoping to get an answer from the other boy.
"And you're supposed to be the smart one?" That joke only earned one of Fugo's classic physical responses with a sharp object. Rubbing his injured hand, Narancia just rolled his eyes and continued with what, for him, was the answer to that mystery. "Now that you mention it, the other time I went to the bathroom and heard some weird noises coming from the kitchen. And it wasn't the first time, it has been common those last few weeks."
"And why haven't you said anything, you idiot?"
"Why didn't you ask me...double idiot… plus, the kitchen is closer to your room."
"I don't understand why I still try to have a conversation with you, you are..."
“Look, if you're so worried about who it could be, we can just stay awake until midnight, ambush them, and that's it. I can't believe you go to such trouble for a cleaner…”
“You don't understand, it's not that someone cleans, it's that… you know what? It doesn't matter, let's do what you said, come to my room as soon as it's time to sleep and we'll find out."
Narancia did nothing but groan as she continued trying to ease the pain of his new wound. Sometimes he couldn't stand Fugo at all.
That night, the two teenagers met at the agreed meeting place, Pannacotta's room, with only one goal in mind: find out who was the night cleaner and the responsible of those scary sounds.
“So, did you get the plan right?” Asked the albino as he finished combing his hair, something that was part of the routine he always did before going to sleep, and that apparently caught Narancia's attention.
"Yeah: we go, I'll check the place with Aerosmith, shoot in case they're thieves, and we go back to sleep." The black-haired was entranced seeing how Fugo continued to look at himself in the mirror. What was the need to get so dressed up if he was going to mess up his hair anyway in case they had to fight?
"Very good." Pannacotta turned and gave him a small smile, now Narancia remembered that when he was able to memorize something, somehow that generated some kind of happiness for his friend. It was weird, but he didn't mean to question it, he looked graceful smiling like that. "Let 's go now? I'm sure Bucciarati is already asleep."
"Okay, but quietly. Let's not alert the subject."
“Narancia, if there is someone here who makes noise, that’s…” The older man only saw one way to silence the other and that was by putting his index finger to his lips, and strangely, he was surprised that that reaction did not end in an attack against his hand.
"I heard him, I am the oldest, I will guide us." Nodding, Fugo decided to give him the freedom (and, thus, the responsibility) of leading this little mission.
Walking on their toes, both boys carefully made their way down the hall of the house and positioned themselves behind the kitchen door. It was not too late, but apparently the invading subject was doing his misdeeds already, since they heard something that they could only describe as moans.
“What 's going on?They seem to be crying...” Pannacotta said, bringing his face close to Narancia's neck, perhaps closer than he would have wanted. What was that feeling? Why did he feel embarrassed, if he was just his friend?
"I-I don't know. Fugo, move away a bit." Narancia whispered and saw how immediately a blush lit up the boy's pale cheeks.
"I’m sorry."
“ B-Bucciarati. ”
Both teenagers were startled by that mention of the name of their beloved boss. That did nothing but set off the alarms on their heads. Quickly activating Aerosmith, Narancia searched the interior of the kitchen with his radar, only to realize that there were two presences there. And if he wasn't mistaken, one of them was Bucciarati.
"They must have him trapped!" said the oldest, visibly worried. “We need to do something, or that asshole might hurt him!”
"No, we have to be smarter than that guy." Fugo’s face wrinkled like it did when he was trying to come up with something, and Narancia could not stop thinking about why the fuck did he had to do something like that at that moment.
"And what, should we let him kill him?"
"Narancia you are so stupid..." And there he was again with that, with his typical insults to his intelligence that, although were part of their typical fights, did nothing more than unnerve Narancia’s anger.
“Stop calling me that, I hate it when you do it!” Raising his voice a little, the dark-haired positioned himself in front of the door and decided to take matters into his own hands. He was going to show Fugo that he wasn't some idiot.
His little plane made an appearance, he was nowhere near firing, when something threw itself towards his leg. tackling him to the ground.
"Wait!" Fugo said above him.
Just what he needed, having that brainiac telling him what to do again; and to make matters worse, straddling him. Why did he have to do things so weird? They were both boys, the situation made him nervous.
"Get off…"
“Shhh, listen,” Fugo whispered, covering Narancia's mouth with one of his hands, and with the other, opening the swinging door slightly, enough so that they could both see what was going on inside the kitchen.
Describing the scene was not so difficult, what was difficult was assimilating it. There, sitting on the kitchen counter, was Bucciarati wrapping his legs around the new guy, Leone Abbacchio. But what did his ears see? Or were those his eyes? Narancia couldn't be sure, he just knew they were looking at something he didn't want to have seen, much less with Fugo still on top of him.
"Shit," Pannacotta whispered, letting go of the door with an expression of complete shame. His face was almost comparable to the shade of a tomato, and although it would have been funny in other circumstances, that had only served for Narancia to confirm that they had seen the same thing.
“T-they were… they were.”
"Shut up, don't say it." The white-haired boy was covering his face with both hands. He either couldn't believe that they had witnessed something like that, even worse that it was his beloved boss who was a participant in those acts.
"I thought that only a man and a woman could do that-" Narancia's mind was in chaos, why did that have to happen right now? Why when he had her friend on top of him. Why now, when in the last few days he hadn't done anything but think about Fugo? No, this was wrong.
"Argh... of course two men can be a couple, haven't anyone taught you that?" No, why did he have to tell him that?! He mustn't spark a possibility that he refused to think of as real.
“N-No”
"...Now you know." Getting up from him, Fugo tried in vain to comb his messy hair, and then held out his hand to Narancia. He just wanted to sleep, apparently.
The oldest, on the other hand, felt that he had received too much information for one night. He did not want to continue seeing his friend, less after confusing all his thoughts in that way. He wanted to die, it couldn't be that he had started to overthink Fugo's words.
"Goodnight," Pannacotta said before running off to his room, leaving him alone. Alone and overloaded with ideas.
He hated it.
The sounds of the kitchen brought Narancia out of his internal crisis. Swallowing dry, the boy just went to his bedroom. He didn't want to know more about Bucciarati, Abbacchio, and now, much less about Fugo.
Stupid, beautiful Fugo.
