Setting up the Paris gang discord server was Tao's idea. Their group was scattered to the wind now that Nick, Elle, Tara, Darcy and Sahar were off at university, with just him, Charlie, and Isaac remaining in their home town. It was nice to have a singular spot to both discuss everyday life and chat with each other.
Nick was in his first year of university, and although he had made friends with others on his floor he knew he wasn’t 100% relaxed or himself at school yet. It was hard to let his guard down when surrounded by new people who didn't know him. Well, they knew him, but not in the way that the Paris gang knew him. The ability to jump on and discuss things with the group at large was just what he needed to ease the tension when he started feeling socially stressed.
The server itself had multiple threads. The main discussion channel had topics that varied wildly day by day, but there were more targeted ones as well. There was one for sharing memes and screenshots of funny texts where Darcy reigned supreme. There was a dedicated one for book recommendations that was primarily Isaac's and Charlie’s domain, as well as one for movie recommendations that Tao absolutely refused to post in, claiming he would lose the last remains of respect he had for his friends if he was subjected to their movie review (his words). Tao claimed he had hidden the entire channel, but Nick suspected otherwise, due to the snide remarks Tao often made that seemed to call back to specific movie reviews Nick had posted.
The meetup channel was mostly filled with half made, abandoned plans. They seemed to have no weekends when everyone was around and it felt insensitive to discuss and make plans in the Paris gang server when not all of the Paris gang could attend.
And then there was the wordle channel. Not solely for wordle, but for word games in general. As with the book review channel, Charlie and Isaac were by far the most accomplished with the longest winning streaks. Conversely, Nick rarely made it more than a few days before he would lose.
