As he came in through the window, Selina snorted. Bruce sighed. "Well, so much for trying to not wake you up," he said wryly.
"Honey, I woke up the second you left the bed," Selina retorted. As he moved to close the window, she added, "Leave the blinds open. I want to see what the morning light looks like in here."
Bruce did, but he shot her a confused look. "You've seen my bedroom in the morning before, Cat."
"Yes, Bat," Selina smirked. "But never before with the light shining off this," and she angled the ring just so to catch the just-breaking sunrise on the diamond and casting a brilliant shine about the room. "So," she said slowly, "I take it you told your parents?"
"I did."
"And?" She tilted her head. "What do you think they would have said?"
Bruce hummed making his way back toward the bed. "My father would've probably liked your spunk. I think my mother would have asked why you didn't just steal the ring years ago."
That startled a laugh out of her. "Really? That's hilarious." Selina felt her smile slip a little. She looked back at the ring. "I hope we would have gotten along."
"Alfred thinks you two would've got on like a house on fire," Bruce shrugged, slinking back under the blankets. "But just so you know, I wasn't asking their ghosts' permission. It just felt like good news I wanted to share with them." He gently pulled her hand to his lips and pressed a kiss to her palm. "You're one of the best parts of my life, Selina. Of course I want to share that with them."
And aren't those words to make a girl melt,Selina thought to herself as she curled up around him in response.
"Wait," she said after a few minutes, pulling out of the cuddle. "Don't give me that disappointed look, this is an important question. You have told Alfred, haven't you?"
Bruce looked nearly offended for a moment before chuckling. "Of course I told Alfred, now come back here."
"Oh, thank god. Breakfast would have been very awkward," she muttered, settling back into his arms. "What about the kids?"
"The girls helped pick out the ring, and when I sat down with the boys Dick and Jason guessed before I even opened my mouth."
"Well, you did raise them to be detectives, Bat. They're very good at making educated guesses."
"Hn. Or Barbara and Kate told them after I asked them about the jewelry."
"Also a possibility." The mention of jewelry caught her attention. "Did you and the girls decide on what to do with Martha's collection, then?"
"No, actually," Bruce sounded pleasantly surprised. "They said they wanted to sort through it with you. Cass and Kate were adamant that Stephanie should be there, as well."
"Obviously."
"Clearly."
"Hey Bat?" she whispered.
"Yes Cat?" he whispered back.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
