Coming out

Summary:

Pietro comes out to his parents.
This is set in my uni-verse storyline but could be understood on its own.
Written to Flufftober's day two: "You have told your parents?"

Work Text:

Pietro was zooming around in his room anxiously, waiting for his parents to come home.

He rehearsed what he wanted to say over and over in his head, but his heart was still beating crazy, and his stomach was in a knot.

Pietro knew he shouldn't be nervous. Not like there was a danger of his parents being homophobic or something, he had two dads for crying out loud.

Maybe that was the main problem. Coming out as gay would probably be easier.

But Pietro wasn't gay. He fancied girls too. For some time he thought he was bisexual, but that didn't fit either.

Thankfully the internet came to his rescue, and after a little research he found the pansexual label, and it fit like a glove.

It was liberating to hear about other people's experiences and how they resonated so deeply with his own.

The first person he spoke to about it was Wanda, his twin sister.

She was sweet and understanding, hugging Pietro and thanking him for his trust in her.

The next stop was his parents. He knew he wasn't obliged to tell them, but Pietro wanted to share this part of himself with them. They never really had secrets in their family, and Pietro trusted them.

It didn't make it any easier though.

When the front door opened and closed, Pietro ran down the stairs in a flash, finding Charles in the hall.

"Hi, Dad!"

"Hey, darling. What's up?"

Pietro shrugged. "Do you know when Erik is coming home?"

Charles's features grew worried. "Around 6, why? Is something the matter?"

Pietro shrugged again, biting his lower lip. "There is just... something I would like to talk to you about. Both of you. There is nothing wrong, don't worry," he added quickly. "Just something I would like to tell. About me. I guess..."

Charles didn't look much relieved, but let it pass. "You can tell us everything. Come on, let's make some tea until we wait for your father. Wanda isn't home, right?"

Pietro shook his head. "No, she has band practice today."

It wasn't long till Charles put his tea mug down with a smile. "Oh, he is almost here."

And true enough, in a couple of minutes, Erik's voice came down from the hall, and he soon appeared at the door of the dining room.

"Good evening, Liebling," he said with a kiss on Charles's cheek. "Oh, are you two having a tea party?"

"Yeah, kinda. Pietro is being very mysterious about something and we were waiting for you."

Erik's smile vanished and it transformed into the same worried look Charles had. "What is this about? Is everything alright?"

Pietro sighed. "It's nothing bad, nothing to worry about. I know you always tell me I can talk about anything, so I wanted to... ehm... do that? I guess. So the thing is, I was doing a little research on the internet to help me figure out some things. And I found the label 'pansexual' and I feel like that fits me very well. Because I find boys hot, but girls too and for a while, I thought I was bisexual, but I like this more. I just don't care about the whole gender binary business. Or gender at all. It doesn't really matter. I guess. I don't know if this makes any sense, but I wanted to tell you because I felt like I wanted you to know."

Pietro stopped talking and took an awkward sip from his tea to do something with his hands.

Charles was the first to speak, and he beamed at his son. "I'm so proud of you, darling. And so grateful you trust us with all this."

Erik gave him a smile as well, nodding along. "Absolutely. I'm just glad you have the internet now. Makes one hell of a difference. Could have used it back then too. Maybe it wouldn't have been so hard for me to figure out stuff about myself."

Charles chuckled at that and wrapped his hand around his husband's waist. "Probably," he turned his attention back to Pietro. "So, do you have a special someone who made you realize these things about yourself?"

Pietro shook his head. "No, not really. It's more of a general thing I guess. But I promise that if I feel serious about someone in the future, I will bring them home to introduce you."

"Good. And I can put the fear of God into them. I will have to prepare a gender-neutral shovel talk," Erik said with a dark grin.

Pietro winced and Charles rolled his eyes. "Supporting, Erik. The goal is to be supportive and not frightening. Do you know the difference?"

"This is me being supportive. Whoever our son decides to bring home I will make them remember that I can manipulate the metal in their blood and won't hesitate to do it if they ever hurt him."

That didn't convince Pietro, but he thanked him regardless. "Well that was all, I wanted to say. Thanks, I guess? I will be in my room now."

And Pietro dashed away in a silver streak.
