Chapter 1: Taiyaki Mania!

Chapter Text

Emu had awoken in bed with a sour lemon face - just as always. Today was a fresh new day with the sun rising in. She was determined to put on another great show for their fans and for the rest of Wonderlands x Showtime - just as she liked it!

As she hopped down the stairs sluggishly, she could see her brothers just in view, talking and nodding. She slipped on her socks and bright pink coat for the summer , trying to ignore them talking about their business deal.

Don’t you ever learn? Those old geezers words won’t get you anywhere in life. It’s like your head is in the clouds Emu. Just because Dad let your stage stay doesn-

Last night’s flashbacks had been settling in as she tied her shoes - shuddering at the thought. She couldn’t think like that - that would lead to a problematic day. Instead , she knotted her shoelaces and ruffled her hair into her straight hair , curled at the end and light pink bob. Right, just another ordinary, completely normal and fascinating day at the Wonder Stage. There were no scheduled performances today, as spring break had just blossomed and the cherry trees were sprinkling all over the Wonder Stage. A beautiful sight reminding her of their successful Christmas show.

She almost turned to leave, wallet in her pocket, when all of a sudden she remembered the bag she had left in the room where her brothers were talking. Great. Just ignore them, just ignore them Emu!

She slid off her sneakers , loosening the knot once again. She quietly tiptoed in, not to interrupt their quite serious and dreadful conversation. Emu hovered over the bag, checking everything was in place. At the same time, their conversation was ringing in her ears, a constant reminder that time was ticking and there was not long before the park was changing. She almost let out a distraught sigh but she huffed it in and picked up the tote bag, sliding it over her shoulder. Aww, how cute, a Phenny bag!

This was the strong one Grandpa had brought her all these years ago, and she instantly forgot about her two lingering brothers off to the side, chatting away about their silly licensing agreement. She walked out the door , still tiptoeing like she had just never been here. Emu thought they didn’t notice her, but Shousuke had being eyeing her from the second she walked it. It was not long before Keisuke looked behind him, following up with a “What? What are you looking at, focus.”

Emu had doodled little stars and the colours lf the members of her troupe on her shoes. The stars for Tsukasa, who thought it was “improper” she had drawn on her sneakers yet he had requested to be a bright, shining and magnificent star who stood out. “After all, I’m a shining star!” A shiny star, one who cared.

She slid on her shoes before quietly turning the door handle, gently making sure as if nobody was watching her. Well , I’m not sure if they even cared. Shousuke was as arrogant as ever, Hinata was busy with everything a young adult had and Keisuke and her father were as scary as ever. Both their voices shook the room. Sometimes she wished they were all as kind and compassionate to her like Hinata, who was a dear sister. She turned the handle. biting on the tote bag handle juggling her keys, wallet and phone. Her keys had a Phoenix Wonderland keychain, ones with different Phenny colours. Yet, they were removing Phenny and replacing him with Riley Entertainment characters. She curled at the thought, at what was once a fun and beautiful park for all was going to be just for kids. And yet again, she was powerless to her family. Emu wished she had some sort of control or power against this but she was a measly high schooler, who, according to her brother, “didn’t act like one.” She locked the door and left the house for Phoenix Wonderland, but first, taiyaki. Taiyaki reminded her of the days her grandpa showed her that store down Main Street, selling all the good food. Her favourite were the fish cakes , Taiyaki, and she still loves them to this day. It reminded her of grandpa, and when she could she always dropped by, ordering them. I guess her and Honami-chan had something in common, a comfort food. Maybe she should find her , at this time of day she was walking her dog.

Emu, once again, slung the bag over her shoulder as it kept slipping off. It was getting on her nerves and she would love to send it to the moon, say hi to her bouncy ball maybe, but it had props in there for their script ideas. This time, Emu had proposed to come up with ideas and the others would help refine them to come up with a solid plot. Tsukasa wouldn’t be able to after he throws plot twists every 2 minutes and Nene wasn’t all that good with writing. She was their songstress after all, not their director. It was Rui’s job this time but he had wanted some fresh ideas instead so Enu had promised to think of some ideas and bring anything in she thought was interesting.

She spotted a blonde girl with pigtails , ordering at the store’s counter. She spoke with little confidence , just like a girl she knew in her year. She almost ran over, knocking over a ginger stranger’s ice coffee “Watch it, you highlighter!” he called out, but Emu just ignored him and went about visiting Kohane. She almost knocked her over, abruptly interrupting Kohane before she left the store.

“Konnichiwandahoy!!!” Emu startled her with her sparky sparky suprise attack, making Kohane shudder and jump turn, smacking Emu in the process with a plastic box , full of taiyaki.

“Oh, Emu-! I’m sorry, you scared me. It’s nice to s-see you!” Kohane had a slight stutter to her voice as she huffed. She looked sweaty and tired , as if she had just ran around Shibuya 12 and a half times. “What brings you here? I’m ordering taiyaki for me and my singing partner, she’s just waiting outside.”

Emu had turned her head slightly out to the back, where she saw a girl with beautiful midnight hair with shiny star clips. She waved at them as Kohane blushed. “I’ll have to introduce you sometime , I don’t think you’ve met.”

Emu nodded with full content, she intended to do something in her spare time before she had to go Phoenix Wonderland. She checked the time. 2:00. That makes it 45 since she had left the house and daylight was fading quick. “That’s great, be sure to introduce me sometime! Did you order the taiyaki? It’s delicious, you should’ve told me! I would’ve ordered some for you last week!” Emu spoke quickly and loudly, disrupting the caisher. Right , yes , she was in a shop. She would have to order too, the taiyaki was just behind that plastic sheet. Freshly made.

”Six taiyaki to go , please!” Emu hoped she made it clear, but she wanted to let Kohane know she loved taiyaki with her whole heart. I don’t think it worked though, maybe it’s just me.

“Six taiyaki for the pink lady!” called out the cashier. Emu was almost distracted enough by catching up with Kohane and An. It had only been a few minutes too and yet she was so immersed. “Hehehe.. that’s my cue!” she smirked as she took off for the taiyaki, almost tripping over the snack store steps. Emu had left the tote bag with the props in Kohane’s possession, and An took a look to satisfy her curiosity.

”That girls a wonder , why didn’t you tell me before, Kohane? I swear you see her shows all the time. Hey hey, you should invite me to one of their shows!” Yep, her curiosity satisfied. Kohane blushed again at the thought of An coming along with her to the park , but she let her off and invited her for the day to visit some of the things before they resumed practice.

”I’m back! I’ve got to run to work though, excuse me! See you soon An, Kohane!” She dragged the tote bag on her side, clinging onto it so that it wouldn’t slip in the busy Shibuya streets. Emu ran off before they could reply. What a wonder, that girl was. How can one seem so carefree like that, without any problems?
