Work Text:
Shouta had been quiet all night. Not that he was ever particularly talkative, but instead of his sharp put downs to Emi's jokes he let them linger in the air, as it he was thinking then over. Now- Emi didn't joke to hope, she jokes to hear that familiar 'No' ring in her ears, the repetition of rejection was comforting to her. He was always so certain, the perfect 'straight man' to her comedy persona, tonight was different.
The night had gone in, silent and cold. They now sat on a roof surveying the streets they patrolled. Shouta leaned back in his palms, a soft forlorn sigh escaped his lips. " 'ya ok?" Emi finally bought herself to ask.
He spares her a glance, "I got a job teaching at U.A"
"What!? That's great!" Emi says throwing an arm around Shouta's shoulder. She knew that he had been working his ass off for this, going through college and taking up odd .T.A. and substitute positions all while being a full time hero.
Shouta didn't knock her hand off, he let her arm drape across his shoulder until she takes it off herself. "Yes, but I have to move back to the city, switch agencies..." The excitement of the news had worn off in him, leaving him to his way of overthinking.
"At least you don't have to deal with me anymore." Emi said with unconvincing laugher.
Shouta smiled- he quickly turned his head before Emi could see it in full. She caught a glimpse though, it was crooked and cheshire, and he had deep dimples that pressed into his cheeks.
He turned back to face her, his smile was all but gone, save for it's lopsided remnants. "Actually I'm going to miss you." His eyes lingered on her a second longer than they were supposed to before he turned back to the street they overlooked. "A lot"
Shouta's words hung in the air as the two of them were enveloped in the brisk night. It only made sense that he was going to miss her, they had been the most constant thing in each other's lives for the past 4 years. But the way he said it was more than the clear-cut way he said most things "Me too," Emi said not meeting his eye. He then wordlessly draped an arm around her, she leaned into him, his body heat a great respite from the cold air that pricked at her bare arms. "Me too"
