“We’ve searched everywhere for the General, Commander.” Boil informs. “He’s no where to be found.”
“He’s here somewhere, Boil. We can’t stop looking.” Cody says.
“He could be anywhere, Commander. The rubble is everywhere, he could be trapped anywhere.” Waxer says.
“Then tell Helix to prepare the med-bay for him, but we are not giving up our search, he is our General, we’re finding him.” Cody says.
This was not how Obi-Wan expected the last day of this mission to go. Granted, the Separatists could have bombed the village anytime, but he was not expecting a sinkhole to be occurring at the same time. Gladly, they had already extracted the villagers from the small village, he was only here making sure they got everyone out. He just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.
So here he was now, trapped multiple feet into the ground, surrounded by mud. He can tell he’s severely injured because he has come to familiarize himself with the symptoms of blood loss, and his temperature feels like he’s in the sun. And to add to his discomfort, he is currently running out of air to breathe as he is currently buried alive.
He hopes his men will find him in time, he would try and contact Anakin, but he wasn’t assigned to go on the mission with them and he doesn’t have enough strength right now to send him a message. He trusts his men; he can only hope they find him before he suffocates.
Until then, it’s just him, alone and buried alive. He’s alone with his thoughts and that’s his worst enemy as he thinks of his fears. He doesn’t want to die, but he knows he’s a Jedi and he has to accept his end, but he can’t. There’s so much he wanted to do, he wanted to end this war like any other Jedi, he wanted to leave the Order and be with Satine, he wanted to congratulate Anakin on his relationship with Padme, he wanted to see Ahsoka’s knighting, he wanted to be the one to tell his men they can go and explore the Galaxy now, without fighting, and he wanted to die old with his loved ones, not like this. If he was going to die young, he would have preferred to die sacrificing himself for his men or friends, or maybe even fighting a Sith, but not buried alive.
His lungs burn now, he’s gasping for air but there’s not enough. He can’t breathe and his mind panics. He hears the pounding of feet above him and he can only hope they get him out in time, he doesn’t have much longer. He feels the mud on top of him lessen as he can only assume there are digging.
He feels his hand get set free first and feels someone grab it. He can’t bring in any air now and his lungs feel as if they’re on fire. He starts to drift to unconsciousness but then he feels himself being pulled out of the dirt, he flinches as it yanks on the wound in his gut, but he doesn’t care, he just wants to breathe again.
And then he hears the most wonderful thing that he thought he’d never hear again, his mens voice’s. He thought he was going to die alone with his thoughts, but he hears his men shouting for him, telling him to hold on and he smiles.
“It’s okay, General, we got you.” Cody says as he pulls him out of the mud. Obi-Wan closes his eyes, knowing he’s safe. That his men, his vod will take care of him, and when he wakes up again, he’ll have his men, his commander be there for him, because he’s not alone, and he’ll never be.
