Summary
“Be still, you lovely thing,” Stede instructs him, and Ed does as told. He’d never imagined how good it would feel to surrender to another person— to surrender to someone he loves, to surrender to Stede. “I don’t want to hurt you.”
“You won’t,” Ed insists, voice rasping.
Stede smiles, looking for all the world like this sunshining picture of golden joy. Ed is momentarily stunned into forgetting what, exactly, it is that they’re doing here in the first place.
It’s impossible not to remember, though, when Stede’s eyes track down to the candle again, lowering it into place over his chest.
