Work Text:
Nancy wasn’t sure what she was expecting when Robin said that she had a surprise for her. They’d been dating for a few months, but Robin never failed to surprise and delight Nancy in fun new ways. All Robin had told her was to come over after she was done with work.
So here Nancy was, sitting in her car in front of the apartment that Robin and Steve shared. She had changed into a casual dress, wanting to look cute but not like she was trying too hard. With any luck, she wouldn’t be wearing the dress for most of the night.
She gathered her composure, and made her way out of the car and to the door of Robin’s apartment. She raised her hand to knock, but before she could make contact, the door swung open. Robin stood in front of her, grinning from ear to ear.
“Hi,” Robin said softly.
“Hi.”
They stood there for a moment, just admiring each other. Finally, Robin grabbed Nancy’s arms, pulling her inside. She swung the door shut behind them, and quickly pushed Nancy up against it, kissing her.
“I missed you,” Robin whispered, after she pulled away for air.
Nancy laughed, “You literally saw me this morning.”
“That was way too long ago.”
“Sooo,” Nancy drawled, “Did you have something in mind for tonight? Not that I’m opposed to making out! That also sounds great.”
Robin stepped back, gesturing around to the room. “I thought we could have a romantic night in.”
Nancy looked around the room, and gasped. The living room was full of candles and fairy lights, painting the room in a soft glow. The lights were soft and twinkling, the two different types combining to make the room feel bright, but still cozy. There was a pile of blankets on the couch, and mugs on the table in front of them. A pile of VHS tapes sat in front of the tv.
Nancy turned back to Robin, who was watching her with nervous anticipation. “Do you like it?”
“It’s perfect. Just like you.” Nancy punctuated the thought with a kiss. She felt Robin relax against her.
They made their way to the couch, Nancy kicking off her shoes. Robin handed her one of the mugs, full of hot chocolate. She took a sip, sighing at how good it was. Nobody could make hot chocolate like Robin, and Nancy felt lucky that she was able to get free hot chocolate from her. Not to mention everything else about Robin!
Robin sat down first, pulling Nancy down next to her. Nancy tucked her feet up on the couch, snuggling into Robin’s shoulder. With a blanket pulled over the pair, Nancy felt warm and protected. She felt the tension of the day drain away from her.
Above her head, the fairy lights twinkled. On the table next to her, a candle puffed, filling the room with a lovely vanilla smell. It was the same scent that Robin used as perfume (on the rare occasion she wanted to wear it). The whole environment felt like a hug from her girlfriend.
Robin turned on the movie. Nancy wasn’t paying too much attention, relishing in the feeling of her girlfriend and the bubble they were in. Here, it was only the two of them. There were no parents, no bosses or teachers, and no people who’d yell that they were going to hell. Nancy was safe to be herself.
So when Robin turned to glance at her, Nancy took the opportunity to kiss her girlfriend freely. The movie was quickly forgotten.
