I just like making the Angel Transformation scary and painful and horrifying, ok. :D

Yuan outright likens Colette to a weapon after her Transformation has been completed. I like to think that’s how he sees himself, too. (In his most self-loathing moments.) Just a fucked-up remnant of some ancient, human war. A rusty but still loaded gun. Something probably pretty dangerous but also something he’s usually somewhat “eh” about. Usually. (Note how he doesn’t use his Angel powers in battle even though it would give him an edge. And he’s very intense about the “no, you idiot, Cruxis aren’t gods or celestial beings or anything, angels are weirdo shit from the Ancient War, that’s all there is to it” when he steps up to give exposition as always, he gives SO MUCH honest exposition by the way–)

Anyway, angel research being done on Yuan during his time in Sylvarant’s army? Top scenario. The Kharlan Heroes would have to get their idea to become angels for a power boost somewhere, a necessary evil so to speak (and then Mithos was like, HOLY FUCK LOOK AT ME BEING A GOD, and we know how that went). And with how Colette says her senses are sometimes overwhelming and outright painful? Hell yes to unrefined Angel powers frying poor Yuan’s brain. I’m autistic, I would know what that’s like. :D (A discussion of HOW YUAN SURE CHECKS A LOT OF BOXES OF COMMON NEURODIVERGENT BEHAVIOUR AND HOW COINCIDENTALLY THE FANDOM AT LARGE BRANDS HIM AS “DISHONEST”, “SHIFTY”, “A LIAR” AND “SHADY” IS FOR ANOTHER DAY, BUT DID YOU NOTICE WHO GIVES YOU ALL THE HONEST EXPOSITION ALL THE DAMN TIME AND ONLY REALLY HOLDS BACK PRIVATE BUSINESS AND WHO IS AN ABRASIVE JERK BUT NOT ACTUALLY A *LIAR* IN CANON HMMMMMMM)

Anyway.

Oh and the scar is from my headcanon that he got half his side blown out in a Kharlan War bombing at his hometown as a kid and he initially joined the military to cover the insane medical bills of the experimental - because Half-Elves make for good guinea pigs - treatment that had sewn him back together and oh, in my “canon timeline” he therefore only has one kidney. Because they couldn’t heal/regrow from nothing. I guess some of his internal organs might have shifted around slightly because of that, too, but that’s getting too complicated to have a fixed opinion on even for me. /random

Oh, and he’s restrained for his own safety, alright. So that he wouldn’t. Accidentally. Kill someone there. Or burn the place down. It’s all in his own best interest. :)
