Encantober day 6: Hugs

Summary:

Mirabel tries to help Isabela with her new powers but ends up getting both of them trapped by a plant.

Work Text:

“Isa?” The new protector of the miracle called out one day. “Heyyy, you’ve been in here a while. Everything okay?” Mirabel gently closed the glowing door behind her as she walked into the greenhouse room. Since her sister discovered the wider range of her powers her room has lost its pastel pink atheistic and transitioned to more of a jungle safari like in Antonio’s room. Granted he didn’t have man-eating plants that could snap you up if you came too close.

“Hellooo?” Mirabel shouted once again. Why did all these magic rooms have to be so big? About midway through the room, the girl finally earned a response. “Hey, Mira.” Isabela greeted from above. Mirabel craned her neck to see her sister wrapped in a tangle of vines. “Hey Isa, how’s it hanging?” She couldn’t help the smirk that made its way across her face. The eldest huffed in response. “Very funny Mirabel, now could you please help me down?”

The girl looked around the room for something that could help reach the high level. “How’d you get stuck up there anyway?” Isabela blew a stray blue hair out of her face. “I was feeding Elizabite a new fertilizer and she didn’t like it.” “Wait a minute.” Mirabel froze when she looked down at her feet. She dragged a large pot full of soil over so she could stand on it to untangle Isabela. It had been knocked over near what she thought was a root. Glancing back at the spot she found it to be empty.

“Where is-AHHHH” Mirabel shrieked as the plant monster wrapped a stem around her ankle. Elizabite dragged the child across the ground until it lifted the vine and tossed Mirabel into the air. A few moments later she found herself wrapped up with Isabela.

“Uhhh, tada?” Mirabel shrugged as her face was smushed against the elder. Their bodies were flush against each other as the vines tangled them in a forced embrace. Isabela glared at her younger sister and lightly butted her head against the other. About the only thing, she could manage while being tied up.“Oww, hey!” “You were supposed to get me down, not get yourself up!” “Well, how was I supposed to know your crazy pet plant was here?”

After a moment of bickering, Isabela began to laugh. It was a wonderful sound in Mirabel’s ears and soon found herself joining in. “Why can’t you just let us down with your vines?” The youngest asked. “I would but I can’t move my arms and Elizabite is the one holding us up here,” Isabela replied. “Well as much as I love hugging you, this is getting a bit tight.” She squeezed out as the plant’s stems continued to wrap around the two sisters. “I agree.” Isabela agreed as she tried once more to wriggle out, only tightening the hold in the process.

“I got an idea.” Mirabel declared after a pause. “What’s that?” The girl took a deep breath and then yelled a loud “DOLORES HELP!” “Aye, that’s not gonna work!” Isabela shouted back in retaliation for having her sister be right next to her ear. “She can’t hear anyone if she’s in her room.” “Oh yeah…” Mirabel trailed off. Isabela huffed before having an idea as well. “CASITA HELP!” This time Mirabel flinched at the loud sound by her eardrum. “That’s not gonna work either! Casita can’t control what’s in the rooms.” “Right…” Isabela trailed off.

“I bet if we screamed loud enough someone would hear us.” Mirabel shrugged. Isabela raised an eyebrow. “Who? Isn’t almost everyone in town?” “Si, almost everyone,” Mirabel replied.

The sisters seemed to come to the same conclusion as Isabela counted down.

“TÍO HELP!”

They did end up screaming for a few more minutes before they were finally rescued.

“I’m all for bonding time sobrinas,” Bruno joked as he untangled the vines. “But I think you two have taken the term ‘embrace’ a little too far.”
