“Arthur?” Merlin called through the flat, trying to localize his boyfriend.
“Yeah?” was the rather uninspired answer, coming from the general direction of their bedroom. Merlin followed the voice and broke into laughter upon seeing Arthur.
He was sitting on the ground, their basket with DVDs and CDs in front of him, multiple of them scattered around him while he held two in his hands. Arthur looked up at him and the innocent puppy’s eyes he was giving Merlin didn’t help make the image any less hilarious.
“Oh, Arthur, are you looking for something?” he asked and knelt down as well, taking one of the DVDs out of Arthur’s hand.
“Star Wars?” Merlin asked slightly annoyed and Merlin could tell Arthur was ready to protest by the way he turned towards him and took a deep breath.
“Oh no, big man. I will not listen to another one of your lectures when we have already established that I do like Star Wars just not every fucking friday,” Merlin ranted and Arthur sighed.
“Well fine, alright. What do you want to watch then?” Arthur asked challengingly, reluctantly putting the DVD back in the basket.
Merlin looked through the ones that Arthur had put on the floor and picked one up.
“How about Lord of the Rings?” he asked and Arthur quickly shook his head.
“No way, this one takes forever and you never get through another movie without falling asleep after watching this one,” Arthur complained and it was Merlin’s turn to sigh. Arthur was right, of course.
“Alright, what then?” Merlin asked, shuffling through their DVDs. Their collection ahd grown quite nicely since they had moved in with each other. And even though they did have accounts on quite a selection of streaming services, they had agreed upon having a traditional movie night every friday.
“We could watch the new Top Gun?” Arthur suggested and Merlin shook his head.
“We don’t have the DVD, Arthur. It’s movie night, only DVDs allowed. Blu-Rays if I’m generous,” Merlin made clear and Arthur chuckled to himself, poking into Merlin’s side.
“Alright, Sire. No changes then whatsoever. How about Batman?” Arthur asked him while sneaking an arm around his waist. Merlin leaned against him and thought about it.
“Dark Knight?” Merlin asked back and Arthur nodded.
“Yeah, that’s an option,” Merlin replied and began rummaging for the disk.
“Found it,” he announced when he saw the familiar cover image and put it next to him.
“We could also watch Pirates of the Caribbean?” Arthur suggested and Merlin nodded slowly, before he had an idea.
“Oh, Arthur. I know something better. How about Sherlock Holmes?” He asked, looking at Arthur with a wide grin.
“BBC Sherlock Holmes?” Arthur asked with joyful anticipation in his voice.
“Oh yes, baby,” Merlin grinned and kissed Arthur passionately.
“I know why I love you,” Merlin grinned at Arthur, foreheads touching and Arthur looked at him a bit incredulously.
“Because of Sherlock Holmes?” Arthur asked confusedly and Merlin grinned.
“Partially?” Merlin asked back cheekily and got up.
“Now, it’s final? Sherlock then Batman?” he asked and Arthur nodded, smiling up at Merlin happily while he started putting away the DVDs they wouldn’t need.
“Alright, I’ll order some pizza?” Merlin suggested and pulled out his phone.
“What did we have last week?” Arthur asked and Merlin bit his lip, trying to remember.
“Was it Mexican?” he wondered and Arthur shook his head.
“No, that was two weeks ago. Did we have sushi?”
“Maybe? I really don’t recall. It wasn’t pizza though. Are you fine with pizza?” Merlin asked once more and Arthur nodded.
“Yeah, sure. But what did we have?” he wouldn’t let the question go, while Merlin ordered them a margherita for himself and pepperoni for Arthur.
“Do we need crisps?” Merlin asked the truly important question and Arthur nodded.
“There should be some in the kitchen,” he replied and put their DVD basket back onto the shelf.
“When’s the pizza gonna be here?” he asked and Merlin checked quickly.
“They said 30 minutes,” Merlin answered and Arthur grinned at him, slowly walking towards him.
“I know how we could use those,” he grinned, slowly invading Merlin’s space, crowding him against the wall. Merlin simply grinned at him, pulled him closer and kissed him slowly.
—
The doorbell rang and Arthur groaned.
“I’ll get it,” Merlin called from the bathroom while Arthur rolled himself out of bed and put on a t-shirt. When he arrived in their living room, Merlin had already put the two pizza boxes on the small table. He heard him rummaging around in the kitchen.
A few moments later, Merlin walked into the living room with a bag of crisps and coke and Arthur smiled. He was wearing a hoodie and sweatpants and Arthur thought that he had never seen something more adorable.
“You look so cute,” he said while stretching out on the sofa and Merlin smiled at him.
“And you’re gorgeous as always,” he replied, then snuggled up to him.
“Let’s start?” Arthur asked and Merlin nodded, feeling for the remote. He started the show and sat back up, grabbing a pizza box. It was Arthur’s so he passed it to him and grabbed his own.
“I love this,” Arthur remarked and put an arm around Merlin’s shoulders. Merlin smiled happily at that.
“I love you, Arthur,” he replied and Arthur pressed a warm, greasy kiss on his cheek. Merlin couldn’t have minded it any less and grinned at Arthur like a lovesick teenager.
“I love you, too, Merlin. And it was Indian food by the way.”
