Summary:

Dean accuses Cas of being a creeper and watching Dean while he sleeps.

Notes:

Here's day two of Suptober's offering—Pillow Talk.

None of these Suptober fics will be beta read or have more than a cursory edit from me. I apologize if there are some typos or other issues in these stories. Please, don't bother pointing them out to me, I won't be coming back to edit them. Thank you.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Castiel feels Dean shift. Hurriedly he shuts his eyes and pretends that he’s sleeping.

“It’s downright creepy. You know that, right?”

Dean pokes him gently in the ribs.

“Uh, what is?” Castiel tries to make his voice sound sleepy, rubbing his eyes like they’re blurry from being rudely awakened by Dean.

“Watching me sleep.” Dean grins at him. “Don’t try to deny it. I know when someone has their eyes on me. It’s a sixth sense all hunters develop and mine is more perfectly well-honed than anyone else's.”

Castiel traces small circles over Dean’s bare chest with his fingertips.

”Is that so?”

“Yes,” Dean says, pulling himself onto one elbow to face Castiel.

“Okay. So, how long do you believe I was staring?”

Dean huffs.

Castiel leans in to nip at Dean’s jawline.

“I’m still waiting for my answer, Dean? One minute? An hour? All night?”

Dean arches into Castiel’s touch. His free hand coming up to cup the back of Castiel’s head.

Of course, the answer is obvious. Even with his powers on the fritz, Castiel barely needs to sleep. There’s no more pleasant way to spend the hours while Dean rests than watching the soft rise and fall of his chest, listening to soft snores, being ready to chase away any nightmares, and when the morning light starts to creep through the motel windows, counting Dean’s freckles. The number is always the same, but Castiel never tires of it. He’s been watching Dean since he fell asleep.

“Go back to sleep, Dean. It’s early.”

Dean rolls away to check the time on his phone. He grumbles under his breath seeing that it’s not even five yet.

“No staring at me, okay?”

Instead of answering, Castiel offers Dean an exasperated look.

Dean wriggles around, trying to get comfortable, turning onto one side, the other, his back, and then his front.

“Hah!’ Dean says with a small fist pump. “Got it. You can’t be a creeper if I use you as a pillow.” To prove his point, he jostles Castiel until the angel is the one lying on his back. Dean settles with his head on Castiel’s chest and drapes his arm lightly around Castiel’s waist.

“Sleep well, Dean,” Castiel says, then presses a kiss to the top of Dean’s head.
